We both run towards the sound of its wings flapping continuously until finally reaching a spot where it disappeared. Almost like we were never tracking it in the first place.

I look at Raven with a bit of confusion running through my mind.

"Where did it go?" I ask.

"We need to find a spot to hide ourselves, now," She responds with a serious tone

She grabs hold of my hand and drags me along with her until we reach some bushes that can conceal us enough.

"Why are we hiding all of a sudden Raven? I don’t mean like before, this is definitely different," I say with confusion in my voice.

The sounds of wings flapping hovers above us for a few moments.

"Just trust me," Raven replies quietly.

I’m not really sure I understand what’s happening right now but trusting her might be the best idea. She is an experienced hunter that I can learn things from.

This dragon is also making me think quite a bit about everything. Why does he have a normal human girl by his side?

What is her role with him? So many questions... Not enough answers.

Leaves fly off of the trees as a huge gust of wind goes throughout the area. The sounds of the wings have also disappeared.

I look around while trying to keep calm since panicking would make it harder for both of us here.

After a couple of deep breaths in and out, I manage to calm myself.

The dragon probably has a slight idea that we might be following it. That is the only logical thing I can think of. It wouldn’t just stop above us if it didn’t have some sort of idea.

That doesn’t mean it is a problem just yet either.

It means we have enough time to figure out a plan before it decides to pounce on us... Which isn’t a lot of time either.

FWOOSH!!!!

Another large gust of wind blows past us as I suddenly notice a presence in the distance. It feels as if eyes are staring directly at me.

"It definitely knows we are here Kain," Raven says with a serious tone.

"We’ll be fine. I’ll handle the dragon," I reply with confidence.

Better to be confident... Instead of scared for my life. I don’t want to look bad in front of anyone, especially not a girl that I just met for the first time.

I grip the handle of my sword and rip it out from the sheathe.

"Just be careful Kain," Raven says with caution in her voice.

"You’ll know if you need to jump in," I reply before starting to run towards the presence.

I can feel my heartbeat racing as I make my way towards this presence... Even though it should be the dragon. The feeling of fear doesn’t seem to be the problem, it is more like adrenaline is flowing through me.

As I start to reach the figure I begin to lift my sword before immediately slashing it down.

SLASH!!!!

Blood spills onto the ground and I instantly realize that the dragon is standing before me with a surprised look on his face.

He doesn’t say anything before he suddenly backs up.

A burst of energy erupts from him as his wings begin to form from his back again. The scales immediately form throughout his arms and legs.

I guess I got the easiest attack in that I’m going to get. The rest of this fight will probably be a huge pain in the ass to get any attacks in.

It’ll be possible to kill him... Just I don’t have a lot of time. I’m pretty weak so one good hit against me will probably put me in a terrible position.

Stop overthinking it all. Nothing will make sense if I keep going.

Without hesitation I rush towards him once again and swing my sword two times before quick backing up. Neither of the attacks did a lot of damage but it did show that I can reach him still.

The damage is visible on the scales but he isn’t really phased by it.

WHAM!!!!

As I’m about to go in for another attack he slams his fist into my stomach and it knocks me up for a second.

A smile forms on his face.

PUNCH!!!!!

I feel pain surge through my body in an instant as I fly through the air, trying to find the best opportunity to stop.

This is about what I expected from the fight but I don’t want to die. My family would have died for nothing if I can’t even manage to kill a single dragon.

I slam my sword down into the ground and use it to forcefully slow myself down until I finally stop.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Blood drips onto the floor... Yet it doesn’t bother me much. I yank my sword out from the ground and grip it tightly, the dragon is staring back at me too.

He knows that I’m hurting pretty badly from both of this hits.

"You are definitely a new slayer," He speaks up with a bit of a surprised tone.

The ability to speak doesn’t seem to be possible as I slowly begin to walk towards him.

"I prefer the silence anyway. Everyone is always trying to talk when there is no need for it," He continues on.

DASH!!!!

Upon reaching him I swing my sword down with as much strength as I can. This time I notice it break through the scales, leaving a bit of blood behind in its path.

SWING!!!

I bring it back up, then down, then up again. Slowly switching the direction each time as I try to avoid getting punched again.

Speed is also an important factor in this so that I can beat him. Progressively I do notice that my swings are getting faster by the second.

CLANG!!!

My sword finally comes to a complete stop as I notice he is now holding it in his hand.

I got too distracted by increasing my speed and switching my direction... Shit.
