She obviously knows I’m new to this whole hunting dragons thing as well. I did catch when she called me a newbie earlier.

With her having more of the experience in hunting dragons, I might have to see what approach she recommends. This is all part of a learning process for me at the end of the day.

"They really don’t tell you much about these jobs," Raven says quietly.

"What do you mean?" I ask with some curiosity in my voice.

She continues to watch the cabin.

"The people who give me these jobs don’t ever tell me if someone else will be around or how strong the dragon really is," Raven responds.

"Sorry, I don’t really know who these people are that you are talking about," I say calmly.

"From the guilds? I guess you didn’t get a job from them for this," Raven replies with a bit of shock in her voice.

Guilds? I always forget they exist since we don’t really have a need for them back in Astien. They were talked about every so often by those who passed through our home.

Otherwise it wasn’t very important to focus on them.

Creakkkk.

The door to the cabin opens back up in the distance and immediately that catches my attention again. Looking towards the entrance I can see the dragon from before has stepped out.

He just appears to be standing around there for some reason.

"What is he doing?" I ask quietly.

"I don’t really know yet," Raven answers with uncertainty in her voice.

A few more moments go by before something finally appears to be happening here. A girl shows up to meet this dragon... And she is wearing rather nice clothes, almost like that of a noble.

The door closes as both of them enter into the cabin again. It slowly becomes a bit more clear why a random girl just came to the cabin here.

"So dragons also have lovers? Is she a dragon too though, or maybe she really is a human?" I begin to question while looking ahead.

"I doubt it would be a normal human, but then again... He might’ve been able to persuade one. Normal people can’t always tell that it is a dragon," Raven explains.

I wouldn’t have known he was a dragon if I didn’t see the form from before. That is definitely a huge gap in our experience already.

The tracking isn’t as hard as I initially thought but everything else is where the problems lie. I have no clue how to beat it in a fight just yet or what weaknesses a dragon has.

So what should the next step be here?

"We’ll wait till he is done in there. If it is a human, I don’t want her to get hurt because of him," Raven says with concern in her voice.

That’s exactly what we did. Just waited for a few hours until eventually the girl did leave.

She must’ve snuck out here since she didn’t even hesitate to leave after they were done with everything.

Maybe she does know he is a dragon, but doesn’t care. I don’t know much about the rules with royal families or nobles or just in general.... But I doubt they support dragons being with their family.

Especially when the whole continent is at war against them.

"Kain. This is your first hunt, right?" Raven asks.

I can see the look on her face and it tells me everything I need to know. She wants me to handle this since it is obvious I’m new to hunting them.

"Yeah," I respond softly.

"Then you definitely need to be the one to kill this bastard," Raven says with a bit of anger slightly in her voice.

"Any advice you can give me here?" I ask politely.

She goes quiet for a few moments.

"I’d recommend killing them in the human form if possible," Raven answers.

So the human form is probably considered to be the weakest since they can’t harness the full strength of their real bodies. At least that’s what I’m assuming with her telling me this.

It is better to make a guess like this now instead of later.

My hand immediately moves down to the handle of my sword and I grab onto it.

"Just wait for a little while longer," Raven suggests.

"Why’s that?" I ask with confusion in my voice.

"You don’t want him to notice us in the human form," Raven answers.

"Isn’t that the whole point?" I question.

"No. He’ll transform the moment he realizes that we’re both slayers," Raven responds with more of a serious tone.

I don’t move my hand away from the handle, I just wait.

Time continues to pass until the moon is up in the skies above, illuminating some of the land around the cabin.

Still, nothing appears to be going on as we continue to wait here. It is just silence.

Eventually I look back at Raven once again to try to understand what she might be thinking about, but I can’t tell.

This hunt has been a huge learning experience so far, I’ll say that much. I don’t really understand what she expects from me here; Ash didn’t even give me proper instructions on how to handle this situation.

All around I’m in a terrible spot with no real knowledge on how the hell I’m supposed to handle it.

Attack while it is in a human form but not yet... It makes this difficult to understand. I’m fighting it by myself regardless it seems so why does it matter?

The door finally opens back up and the dragon immediately changes forms when it hits the grass. I make sure to conceal myself as it starts to fly over our heads.

Each flap of its wings send a gust of wind throughout the forest around us until it finally starts to get some distance.

"Time for us to follow it once more," Raven says before starting to run.

Information. That’s why she wanted us to wait.
