With that Ash does one more demonstration with her stance before backing up quite a bit. It seems like she is going to watch from afar with Raven as I practice it myself.
I position my feet where she told me to before and lower my sword once again.
Dash!
I repeat the process a few times as I feel their eyes lingering on me in the distance. It only encourages me to do better each time I try to use the stance.
~Comprehension of The Phoenix stance has been noted.
What exactly do you mean by that?
~I mean you seem to be understanding how to use it more so I saved that knowledge to my database.
Database? Actually, don’t tell me about that right now. I don’t think I need a distraction while practicing this stance.
Hours pass....
I’ve been practicing this stance for quite awhile now and I still don’t have it completely down. This is also only the very beginning of what this stance truly can do.
Footsteps approach as I sheathe my sword.
"You definitely show promise. I think you’ll definitely make a good slayer," Ash says with a smile.
Raven steps forward as well.
"After watching you kill a dragon and the training today, I’m confident you can make it far." Raven says "Just make sure to take it slow so you don’t make a mistake in the battle."
"I’ll definitely be cautious going forward," I reply while looking towards Raven.
Ash also said quite a positive thing about my training so I guess I’ll be capable of making it quite far. Not that I didn’t think that before.
I just don’t want to be so full of myself.
That kind of mentality is definitely how you get yourself killed in a war like this against dragons. They will use that to their advantage to win the fight.
"Thank you both for the positive words," I speak with appreciation in my voice.
"It is just honesty Kain. I hope to see you return in one piece again," Ash replies with a hopeful tone.
Raven looks a bit sad at first but then she smiles towards me.
"Take care of yourself out there Kain," Raven says with a cheerful tone.
"I definitely will," I assure her.
The two of them walk back to the shack where the Elder appears to be standing in the doorway.
I don’t follow behind them since I still have a lot of training to get in before I embark on another hunt. He is just watching me from there with his arms crossed.
Making my own stance isn’t going to be easy in the slightest but it is needed before I say goodbye to everyone. Maybe that is something the system can help with.
~You want help?
If there is a way for you to do it, then yes.
~I’ll give you guidance in positioning your feet and how to hold the sword.
I appreciate the help with this... Maybe it’ll help me get it ready at the very least.
After a few moments of silence... A beam of light flows out from my legs and appears to be guiding me to where to place my feet.
I move my left foot out ahead of me while putting my right one a few inches to the right.
After that I lift my sword up with both hands as if I’m going to drive it into someone or something.
~Focus on your breathing.
I thought I already was doing good with keeping my breathing calm. Then again you said focus not calm.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
I start to focus on my breathing as a strange sensation goes throughout my arms. It almost feels as if the wind is going through me with water?
It is the best way to describe it at the moment.
Briefly I look towards my arms to see a small radiant red glow beginning to form around my arms. It doesn’t burn or hurt or anything for that matter.
~What shall we name this stance?
I’ll name it after my family. The Valtor fighting stance.
~Great. Now you need to focus on what this stance will give you, how will it benefit you?
How will it benefit me?
~Correct. Will it help with speed, strength, reflexes, what?
After it finishes that sentence I begin to focus on what could be the best approach for the Valtor fighting stance.
I drive the sword forward.
DASH!!!!
As I rush forward in an instant I drive my blade forward, sending a small shockwave of red energy ahead. The grass burns slightly as a sword slash lingers along the ground.
~You’ve successfully made an attack possible with this stance but now you need to keep going.
Multiple attacks without letting up.
~Correct.
One attack will never be enough to handle a single dragon so I’ll need to focus on implementing more. I already have a mix of speed and strength implemented into the first swing.
This is going to be tricky.
I position myself once again before letting out a deep breath.
Dash!
Immediately I appear further ahead and swing my sword.
Once, twice, three times, stop.
Three attacks in one go is all I can manage with that first initial dash. But something I notice around me is the scorch marks from the attacks.
Do you know why these marks are all around?
~It is part of the dragon essence you absorbed previously. That dragon loved using flames so you inherited that.
I inherited flames? That is definitely quite an interesting trait to inherit from a dragon but what else could I get from them?
I’ll need to keep killing dragons if I want to keep evolving these stances.
Each one will still serve a purpose in battle against the dragons... Just I can tweak them.
I lift my sword again and dash forward.
SWING!!!!
As I swing this time, my sword sends a burst of flames upward and wind blows past behind it.
