The shot immediately pierces the head of the thin dragon and all I can see is a bright burst of purple light.
BOOM!!!!
Blood begins to rain down from the sky as pieces of the thin dragons head scatter throughout the forest itself.
Holy shit... I didn’t think that last shot would absolutely decimate the thin dragons head like that. I thought it would’ve just grazed it or been enough to stall it.
She really infused that damn bullet with a lot of power or something...
Regardless that is enough for me to get over to the dragon who is already on the floor first.
Immediately I begin to absorb the essence like I did before as I pull my sword out from its neck.
Once again I can feel the strange sensation go throughout my whole body... Except this time my wounds feel like they are healing slightly as well.
~About time we got this essence.

Whatever. I have two dragons that I have absorbed the essence from now and I think the wounds healing is a good sign.
Maybe this dragon will also have something useful for me.
My eyes quickly dart back towards the other dragons. Two remain after the events that just occurred.
The one who seems to be in charge is a bit dumbfounded by what just happened.
I think we are in the perfect position right now.
The horned dragon lets out a low growl.
Its entire mouth is still covered in dark green blood from the dragon it was just tearing apart.
The larger one slowly turns its attention towards the remains of the thin dragon.
Guess even it wasn’t expecting Veronica to blow its head apart with one shot.
I guess that makes two of us. It also means now they are uncertain about what’s happening now.
"Can you still use that thing?" I question while looking towards Veronica’s rifle.
She glances down at the crack stretching across the barrel.
"Probably," Veronica answers.
"Probably?" I question.
"It’ll either fire or explode, but remember I’m out of crystals at the moment," Veronica responds while looking down at her pouch.
I forgot she just used the last shot.
She lightly taps the side of the weapon before adjusting her grip.
"I wouldn’t stand too close to me when I use it again," Veronica adds.
"Great, but you said you don’t have ammo," I respond with some confusion in my voice.
"Just trust me," Veronica says with a calm tone.
My wounds are still healing slowly.
The pain in my shoulder has already started fading and my legs aren’t trembling as badly as they were before.
Absorbing the essence definitely did something more than the first time.
~The effects appear to become more noticeable with each absorption.
So this will happen every time then?
~Possibly.
The larger dragon suddenly roars.
ROOOOOAAARRRR!!!!
The horned dragon immediately lowers its head.
"Looks like they’re done being confused," I say.
"They recovered quicker than I hoped," Veronica responds.
The horned dragon begins charging.
CRACK!!!!
The ground tears apart beneath its claws as it races towards us.
I tighten my grip around my sword.
The weapon feels lighter than it did before...
Definitely an interesting change after absorbing more of the dragon essence.
No time to ponder on that right now since I’m still in the middle of this damn battle.
The horned dragon gets closer and I quickly lower myself into the Valtor Stance.
The power beneath my feet forms much quicker this time.
The healing really did make a difference.
Dash!
I launch myself towards the dragon.
Its head lowers even further as the two horns aim directly towards my chest.
Instead of moving out of the way, I jump.
The dragon rushes beneath me and I twist my body while holding the sword with both hands.
SLASH!!!!
The blade cuts across the back of its neck, forcing dark green blood to spray into the air as I land behind it.
The horned dragon lets out a roar and skids across the grass before turning back towards me.
That cut wasn’t nearly as deep as I hoped but it’ll have to do for the time being.
The larger dragon opens its mouth.
Heat begins gathering between its jaws again.
I immediately look towards Veronica but she already knows what is happening... That really is the difference between the two of us in experience.
She raises the damaged rifle.
Purple light begins moving throughout the cracks along the barrel.
The larger dragon releases another torrent of flames.
FWOOOOOSSHHH!!!!
Veronica pulls the trigger.
BANG!!!!
A purple projectile tears through the incoming flames.
The two attacks collide in the middle of the hillside.
BOOOOM!!!!
The explosion sends a wave of heat and magic in every direction.
I drive my sword into the ground to stop myself from being thrown away.
The horned dragon isn’t as lucky.
It gets caught by the edge of the explosion and rolls across the burning grass.
Veronica slides backwards.
The crack on her rifle grows.
Then another appears as she looks down at the weapon.
What the hell did she fire at the dragon?!?! I thought she was completely out of ammo.
"That was probably its last shot," Veronica says.
"I thought you were out of ammo?!" I question.
"I’m a very resourceful girl Kain," Veronica teases with blood still running down her face.
Resourceful my ass. Regardless, the conversation can happen more after this is over.
Smoke covers most of the hillside.
I can’t see the larger dragon anymore.
The horned dragon slowly pushes itself back onto its feet.
Some of the scales along its side are cracked from the explosion.
This is our chance since the larger dragon is currently out of the picture at the moment.
I rip my sword out of the ground.
"Can you distract the larger one?" I ask.
"With what?" Veronica responds.
I glance towards her damaged rifle.
"Throw it at him maybe?" I suggest.
Veronica looks at me for a second.
"That was a lot of work to make," Veronica replies.
"We can worry about that after the hunt," I say with a serious tone.
She sighs.
"You better finish the smaller one quickly then," Veronica suggests.
I won’t waste any time then.
I rush towards the horned dragon before it fully recovers but it sees me coming and swings one of its claws.
CLANG!!!!
I block the attack with my sword.
The force pushes me back, but not nearly as far as it did before.
My arms feel stronger than before... How strange.
The dragon attacks again.
CLANG!!!!
This time I manage to redirect the claw instead of stopping it completely.
I step around its side and drive the sword into the cracked scales.
SLICE!!!!
The blade pierces through and the dragon twists its body once again, its tail swings towards my head.
I duck underneath it.
The tail passes close enough for the wind from it to move my hair.
I pull the sword free and stab again.
SLASH!!!!
The horned dragon roars before slamming one of its wings into me.
THUD!!!!
I hit the ground and roll across the grass.
Pain shoots through my ribs again.
I knew the healing didn’t completely fix everything yet... Or if it even could fix everything.
The dragon charges while I’m still getting back onto my feet.
Its horns aim towards me.
I push myself up and quickly get back into the Valtor stance.
Dash!
I move to the side at the last second.
The dragon misses me and crashes headfirst into one of the damaged trees.
CRACK!!!!
The trunk splits apart.
The dragon’s horns become lodged inside the wood.
This couldn’t get any better than this.
I rush towards it.
The dragon begins pulling its head back, but the broken tree bends with it.
I raise my sword.
"Stay still for once," I say quietly.
I drive the blade downward.
SLICE!!!!
The sword pierces through the back of its neck as ark green blood bursts across my hands and clothes.
The dragon lets out a violent roar as it thrashes against the tree.
The blade still isn’t deep enough.
I tighten my grip and push harder as the dragon’s body shakes.
One of its claws tears through the ground beside me.
I push the sword even deeper.
CRACK!!!!
The blade breaks through something inside its neck and the dragon suddenly stops moving.
Its entire body falls limp against the tree.
I stand there for a few seconds while breathing heavily.
Is it finally dead? It really is difficult fighting a dragon in its full form.
~The dragon’s life force is fading.
That’s a sufficient answer I guess.
A massive roar echoes from behind me.
ROOOOOAAARRRR!!!!
I turn around.
The larger dragon emerges from the smoke.
Several of its scales are burned and cracked, but it still looks much better than I was hoping.
Veronica stands several feet away from it.
Her rifle is no longer in her hands.
The dragon raises one of its claws but Veronica jumps backwards.
BOOOOM!!!!
The claw smashes into the ground where she was standing.
"Anytime now!" Veronica shouts.
I look back towards the horned dragon.
A faint red glow begins forming around its body.
More dragon essence.
Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
My entire body reacts to it.
~Absorption is possible. You should take advantage of it now.
Right. I need to be quick though.
The larger dragon is already chasing Veronica.
I place one hand against the dead dragon.
The red glow immediately begins moving towards me.
The sensation is much stronger this time... So much so that my entire arm begins burning.
It isn’t from the flames.
Something beneath my skin feels like it is moving.
The essence enters my body.
Ba-dum!
My heart pounds harder than before.
For a moment my vision turns red.

The ground shakes and I look up once again to see that the larger dragon is rushing straight towards me.
