We continue moving forward along the path as it nothing is going on.

My understanding of what slayers have to deal with is beginning to grow as I meet more of them.

The village being lost crushed me but Aaron was right... We have lots of other people to save who are still alive. Those deaths will probably travel with me quite a long way.

Probably even the rest of my life.

"If you’ve killed dragons before I’d say you have been in the war for awhile now," Sylvia speaks up.

"Then why would he welcome he back there?" I question with a bit of curiosity.

"Because you haven’t seen everything that comes along with war yet," Sylvia answers. "There is still a lot that comes after the dragons are beat."

She’s not wrong about that. We have to clean up every mess that they made after the war is over. That’ll be a fun time I’m sure.

I don’t even know what I’ll do after everything is finally over.

That single thought is one that I can’t really wrap my head around just yet because I don’t know peace enough. What am I supposed to do?

Tap. Tap.

I leave my thoughts behind as I notice Sylvia tapping my shoulder.

"This has just put a lot on my mind," I say without thinking.

"That is not always Kain," Sylvia assures me.

"I’m just lost when it comes to the after part of the war," I say while looking ahead.

We continue to walk.

"Then worry about it when we get there dummy," Sylvia replies playfully.

I run a hand through my hair.

"Yeah. It probably is better like that anyway," I say with a more relaxed tone.

Flap. Flap. Flap.

The relaxed feeling I felt disappears in an instant as I notice dragons flying overhead.

"Seems we’ll be getting more action after all!" Sylvia speaks with some excitement in her voice.

"Seems like it. But they are heading into the distance," I respond while looking ahead.

~Warning. The battle ahead is going to be rough.

It just looked like normal dragons, why would it be rough?

~You will understand when you get there.

As we get closer to the direction of the dragons I can notice the sky is getting darker and darker. It almost looks like it is about to start pouring.

Some bodies lay along the road with broken pieces of armor, swords, and even some of their limbs are broken.

I’m starting to understand why it’ll be a rough battle.

"Oh you guys are coming this way too?" Aaron says with a bit of a shocked tone.

I look up from the bodies to see him standing ahead with his sword ready to go.

"I could’ve sworn you went a different direction," I reply with a bit of confusion in my voice.

"Nope. I am here to kill dragons," Aaron says with a big smile across his face.

"There’s no lack of dragons here, that’s for sure," Sylvia chimes in.

We all look ahead at the dragons flying around in the sky in the distance.

"What exactly are they doing?" I question.

"Ahead of us is a slayer outpost so if anyone is alive, it is best we go now," Aaron responds as he continues to walk.

"I’m right behind you," I say with a serious tone.

Walking along the road I can see a few broken cannons scattered throughout the area with a few broken tents. Each one is covered in blood.

A lot of slayers died fighting here it seems.

After a minute or two of walking I finally see the outpost ahead where smoke is flowing up into the air.

BOOM!!!!

The sound of a cannon going off is all I can hear as I see a round explode when it hits one of the dragons.

ROARRRRRR!!!!!

Whoever is firing the cannon is a pretty good shot with it. I doubt I could hit a target, let alone a flying one at that.

"We should hurry up," Aaron suggests.

He begins to run as Sylvia follows behind him.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

I lower myself into the Valtor stance and draw my sword.

They can run ahead while I handle the dragons falling from the skies. I won’t give any the chance to get back up when others are fighting for their lives.

THUD!!!!

I can hear the dragon slam into the ground in the distance and immediately that tells me that it is time.

Dash!!!!!

Once, twice, three times.

As I approach the dragon it immediately begins to let fire out from its mouth but like I did once in the past, I dash through the flames.

SLASH!!!!!

I swing my sword upwards through its open mouth and cut right through its jaw.

The flames immediately stop as blood begins to spill out onto the floor in front of me. It is visibly shocked by what just happened but it doesn’t seem to be done yet.

Within an instant it disappears into a puff of smoke before I see a man rushing towards me at full speed.

CLANG!!!!

I block against his fist with my sword as he grits his teeth in front of me, blood dripping down from his mouth.

He switched back to human form? What a bizarre time to do that... But I guess he felt it would be smarter in the moment.

~He isn’t such a big target when he goes into a human form. That is the way he probably thought about it, but this is even more of an advantage for us.

Exactly.

Kick!!!

I slam my foot into his stomach and push him away.

Dash!!!

This time as I dash forward I bring my blade down towards him and cut directly across his chest. He lets out a groan as blood begins dripping down from his chest now as well.

But before he can attack I back up and raise my sword one more time.

Dash!!!!

I drive my sword straight into his chest.
