Dash!!!!!
I swing my blade down towards him once again.
Clang!!!!
He blocks it like before but this time I don’t intend to only rely on the sword.
Without hesitation I slam my fist into his stomach and he stumbles back a little bit this time.
A surprised look appears on his face as he stares back at me.
I don’t have the kind of strength he does when it comes to a unarmed attack but it should still be enough to help over time. At least I believe it will.
~That was definitely a smart move Kain.
That’s what I thought as well. If I can slowly awaken him over time with other attacks... Maybe I’ll be able to get a hit with my sword.
The moment I blink he disappears again.
It’s that same movement from before...
I focus a bit more this time and just barely turn around in time.
Clang!!!
His sword slams up against mine as I stare back at him with a bit of relief on my face.
"You look quite relieved to have blocked that attack," The Captain says with a smirk on his face.
I don’t say anything.
Damn right I’m relieved... But it doesn’t matter since he can already see it on my face. That means I probably won’t be able to anticipate the next one.
~That is not entirely true.
Before I can respond to the system I notice the captain disappears again.
Pain suddenly jolts through my back once again as I feel the metal cut right across it.
Slice!!! Slice!!!
Two different attacks in a row that I can’t even block.
Immediately I turn around to see the captain is gone, probably moving about, no sign of him whatsoever.
~You really do need to focus. Otherwise you will end up dead.
I know. I know. I’m figuring it out.
Clang!!! Clang!!!!
Our swords clash once again as I manage to predict two of the attacks... All while blood continues to drip down my back. He isn’t saying much this time.
It is almost like he is trying to see how many times I can accurately predict his attack.
Before he can disappear this time I use my free hand to grab hold of his suit.
"I’m not letting you disappear this time," I say with a serious tone as I tighten my grip.
He begins pushing back against my blade while looking down at my hand.
"Brave indeed," He replies with a calm tone.
Right as he is about to move his sword, I headbutt him.
WHAM!!!!
I watch for a moment as he stumbles back, clearly taken back by the sudden attack out of nowhere. My vision also gets a little blurry for a moment but then comes back.
Blood drips down his head a bit.
As he goes to wipe the blood from his face I charge in.
Dash!!!!
I watch his arms closely as he goes to block the attack, except I don’t swing my sword the way he anticipates. Instead of me bringing the blade upwards... I slice right across his legs.
Immediately I cut right across both of his legs without any problem or resistance.
SPLATTER!!!!
Blood hits the ground in seconds as I move out of the way.
We’ll see how well his speed holds up with two injured legs.
~Smart attack. It definitely should slow him down a good bit.
That was the intention of cutting his legs up in the first place. Otherwise I’d be trying to stall for time until the others could help me here.
I’d rather kill the captain on my own if possible though.
Like the dragon I killed in the ambush... He might hold a lot more essence than a normal dragon.
I stare back at him as his eyes drift down to his legs.
"I’ll admit, you clearly are smarter than slayers I fought in the past," He says with a bit of respect in his voice. "None of them ever went for my legs before."
Clearly none of them could predict that your speed has to be from the legs. Especially when he doesn’t have any wings out right now.
It just takes a bit of logical thinking in these situations.
Even if this is life or death... You need to be able to think about the proper approach so you don’t die in the process.
~That is why I think you are capable of all this thinking in combat. Others would die since it is a distraction.
I don’t say anything back to the system, instead I prepare for another attack.
Dash!!!!
Once, then twice, then three times.
Instead of attack with each dash I just get close and then change directions. Watching how quickly he reacts to each attack.
He’s slower when I attack from the right but faster when it is the left or behind him. So the right side is my best opportunity to get a good attack in.
Finally I dash one more time from the right.
SLASH!!!!
I cut right across his chest, through the suit and armor itself this time. Blood begins to drip down from his wound as he stumbles back yet again.
He clenches his chest to see that the attack was a lot more intense than he expected.
"A slayer capable of learning mid fight is a formidable opponent," He speaks with a low voice.
The pressure increases even more as the ground suddenly breaks underneath him a bit.
"One that can force me to try this much is truly interesting," He continues to speak.
~You definitely need to prepare, he’s about to attack.
That much I can tell.
Crumble!!!!
The ground breaks as he rushes towards me.
BOOM!!!!!
A shockwave blows past me as I block against his attack; I can feel the pressure increasing as he pushes me back as well now.
I look down to see him pushing me further and further away from everything.
Time is running out for me right now.
