As much as I want to reach this kingdom... I’m quite exhausted. A lot of traveling mixed with some of the strange scenery we encountered along the way.

"Maybe we can set-up camp here for a bit before we enter the desert there," I suggest while staring at everything across the river.

She lets out a sigh.

"I’m not against it," Sylvia responds with a little bit of disappointment in her voice.

She probably wants to get there so it is out of the way, but it is best to get rest. We’ve been doing nothing but non-stop travel without a whole lot of stopping.

It has been days since we dealt with the dragons at the outpost.

"Shall we setup a camp then?" Sylvia asks while folding the map back up.

"Yes," I answer.

I help gather some stuff to get our camp situated for the time being. Our tent is already put up so it is just the fire we need to worry about.

We both gather some sticks and put them in a small makeshift campfire that we made.

About an hour goes by as the water continues to rush loudly through the river next to us. Occasionally some fish swim past as well.

Sylvia sits down on one of the logs we brought over for the fire.

"I really am exhausted," I say while taking a seat next to her.

"Me too. I didn’t really think about all the walking we did the last few days," Sylvia replies while staring at the river.

I’m glad I’m not the only one enjoying the scenery. It really is refreshing.

"That’s why I thought we could use a break," I say with a soft tone.

She turns back towards me with a smile on her face.

"I’m kind of glad I decided to come with you," Sylvia changes the topic with happiness in her voice.

"Why’s that?" I ask curiously.

"You seem to be a really good person. Your heart is in the right place during every situation we’ve encountered so far as well," Sylvia answers.

That’s definitely a way of putting it. I just don’t want to keep seeing people die if I can save them somehow. Dragons have taken enough from us all.

It would be nice just to get everyone out alive without a problem.

~You did help save the lives of the slayers at the outpost.

That is true. I managed to do that which was a breath of fresh air.

"I just want to keep everyone alive," I say with a calm tone.

"From now on I’ll do my best to assist with keeping everyone alive as well instead of how I approached it at the last village," Sylvia replies.

"Why?" I question.

"Because it is the proper way to do it. Even if we are in a war, lives can be saved," Sylvia responds while moving closer to me.

~Being able to have such an effect on people is a good thing. Not everyone can look at the war with the same outlook as you.

She’s also been fighting in the war far longer than I have. I don’t think she should change how she looks at things because of me.

~She is capable of making her own decisions Kain, clearly that is what she wants to do.

I just give a smile back as I let the thought pass by.

"On another note, have you given much thought to anything after the war yet?" Sylvia asks with curiosity in her voice.

I swear we’ve briefly talked about this before but it wasn’t something I thought much about at the time.

She told me about traveling... I remember that.

"Honestly I might just rebuild my village," I answer.

"You’d want to rebuild Astien?" Sylvia questions with a curious look in her eyes.

"Yeah. I think after the war is over I won’t have to worry about it getting destroyed or people dying there again," I respond with a bit of sadness slipping into my voice.

She wraps her arms around me for a moment, giving me the warmth I haven’t really felt much.

My mom used to give me hugs whenever days were rough but this feels different in a way. Nothing about it is bad or anything, just different.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

That feeling in my chest is back again... Just I don’t understand what it really is.

"Maybe I can help you rebuild it," She whispers into my ear.

I slightly lift my arms to hug her back, feeling the various emotions go through my mind.

Sadness, happiness, anger, everything.

It isn’t because of her that I feel the bad emotions, it is her that is overwriting them for me. There’s still so much for me to learn about her though.

I feel like she’s just been giving me the easy path with all of this lately.

The talking, helping me get through everything, and just being there. It isn’t something I ever imagined I’d have with someone before.

She finally lets go of me and her face is only a few inches away from mine.

RUMBLE!!!! RUMBLE!!!!!

The ground suddenly begins shaking around us as I start to realize that something big is coming from behind us.

Without even hesitating I grab my sword and force myself to stand up as my balance begins to falter. Yet, nothing is coming out from the distant forest.

Finally it comes to a complete stop.

"What the hell was that?" I ask with confusion in my voice.

Sylvia finally stands up herself as she takes a few glances.

"I don’t really know," Sylvia answers.

~A potential threat has appeared in the distance, be cautious Kain.

Immediately I begin scanning the surroundings for any sign of this potential threat but I don’t see a single thing. Just the distant cobblestone towers in the open desert plains, the distant forest behind us, and the river in front of us.

There doesn’t appear to be a single threat that I can see.

I don’t see anything.

~Perhaps it was an error on my part then.
