Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power

Chapter 79: The Attacks In Driften [4]

~You are controlling the pace much better.

I don’t need any praise yet when I haven’t even won the fight itself.

The former slayer looks down at the armor on the ground.

Then his hand goes towards his helmet.

What the hell is he doing now?

Click.

He releases something underneath it and slowly he pulls the helmet from his head.

A man who looks much older than I expected stands underneath it.

His dark hair has streaks of grey running through it and a scar stretches from his forehead down towards his cheek.

His eyes look exhausted, you can tell he’s been at this for quite some time.

He tosses the helmet aside.

THUD!

"You’re making this more interesting than I expected," He says.

Now his voice is completely clear.

"Why did you stop being a slayer?" I ask.

The question comes out before I can stop myself.

He stares at me for a moment.

"I got tired. Also, you decide to talk now? Hahaha. Unbelievable," He responds.

"Tired?" I question.

"Of dragons, kings, guilds, and people like you who think we can save everyone," He answers.

His grip tightens around the sword and his expression immediately hardens

"I don’t care how tired you are or all that but innocent people don’t deserve this," I say.

His eyes narrow.

"These people don’t mean shit kid," He replies without hesitation.

Silence.

Whatever made him stop being a slayer wasn’t the people hiding inside of these buildings.

So they shouldn’t be paying for it.

He lets out a slow breath.

"They matter when they never did a damn thing wrong," I say with a bit of anger in my voice.

He doesn’t respond this time.

Just a different expression on his face, anger or maybe it is disappointment?

I can’t tell.

He grips the sword with both hands again.

"Then let’s see if you can stop me," He says while staring towards me.

Here he comes.

DASH!!!!

I lower myself.

The Valtor Stance feels more natural now than it did at the start.

His sword comes from my left.

No, that’s where he wants me to see it coming from.

I watch his feet.

His front foot changes direction.

Right.

I move before the real attack comes.

SWOOSH!!!!

His sword cuts through the empty space where I stood.

His eyes widen and then I rush inside the range of the giant sword.

His weapon is too large to bring back immediately.

My shoulder slams into his chest.

WHAM!!!!

He stumbles.

I use the exact thing he used against me earlier.

His body, his balance, everything counts.

I bring my sword around.

CLANG!!!!

He somehow manages to catch it with the lower section of his weapon.

But his stance is broken now.

I kick his knee.

WHAM!!!!

His leg buckles and he drops down slightly.

I swing again.

SLASH!!!!

My blade cuts across the exposed section of his upper arm.

Blood immediately runs down his armor while he grunts and swings wildly towards me.

I jump backwards.

SWOOSH!!!!

The giant blade misses as he rises back to his feet.

Drip. Drip.

His blood joins mine on the sand.

For the first time since the fight started, we are both wounded.

Now he’s watching me differently. I’m sure he is well aware that it could end poorly if I keep catching him off guard.

"Not bad," He says quietly.

I tighten my grip.

There’s no need for me to speak.

He raises his weapon again.

I can hear more movement behind me.

Then—

THUD!!!!

One of the bandits crashes onto the ground several feet away.

"That’s the last one!" Sylvia shouts.

The former slayer’s eyes briefly move behind me.

A distraction. Perfect... Wait.

This might’ve worked if it was any other opponent but against him, that is dumb. He’ll expect me.

I don’t take advantage of this attack, but I do notice his eyes were still on me the whole time.

Exactly what I expected.

His sword moves.

CLANG!!!!

I block the sudden attack.

"You really aren’t falling for much anymore," He says with a serious tone.

I push his sword away, then I attack.

CLANG!

He blocks and I attack again.

CLANG!

Then again.

CLANG!!!!

Our swords continue colliding as we move through the street.

Neither of us gives much ground, but I can feel the difference.

He’s definitely not in control of the fight anymore. I’ve made that much clear to him in the last few clashes.

I swing high.

He blocks.

Then immediately I lower my sword.

He anticipates the attack towards his side so I wouldn’t make it this time.

Instead I step forward.

My fist slams into the damaged section of his chest armor.

WHAM!!!!

He stumbles backwards.

His expression finally changes completely.

The look of shock on his face is definitely a nice thing to see.

Fighting against another slayer has definitely opened my eyes quite a bit. I would’ve made the same stupid moves if I didn’t pay attention to how he fights.

I’m also starting to copy some of his moves more throughout the fight.

Before he recovers I rush forward.

My sword moves towards his right.

His weapon shifts and I quickly stop.

Without hesitation I change direction.

His eyes widen.

SLASH!!!!

My blade cuts across his thigh and he drops onto one knee.

His giant sword digs into the sand to keep him upright.

I immediately place the tip of my sword near his neck.

Everything becomes still and I can hear my breathing, his breathing, and Sylvia’s footsteps somewhere behind me.

The fight is definitely over at this point, I can just end his life here...

Why does this feel like it is a lot harder to do compared to the dragons? It feels heavy.

The man looks up towards me.

"What now, slayer?" He asks.

I don’t answer for a moment and my sword remains where it is.

He’s a terrible person who’s been terrorizing the people of Driften... Why am I hesitating this much? All because he is a human?

Humans can be evil too.
