Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power
Chapter 78: The Attacks In Driften [3]The armored man doesn’t move immediately.
But neither do I.
He already showed me exactly what happens when I let him decide how the fight moves. Every attack he made before was either testing me or trying to get a specific reaction.
Attacking first or playing into what he wants isn’t happening anymore. I’ll be smarter about it.
~Do you have an idea?
I’m working on one currently.
I tighten my grip around my sword while keeping the Valtor Stance.
The cut across my side continues to sting, but it isn’t deep enough to stop me.
Drip. Drip.
A couple drops of blood fall onto the sand underneath me.
The armored man looks towards the blood before raising his sword slightly.
His helmet tilts slightly.
I think he’s starting to realize that I’m not going to talk much or stop fighting back.
CLANG!!!
Another clash comes from behind us.
I can hear one of the bandits grunt shortly afterwards.
Sylvia is taking care of them quite nicely.
I definitely appreciate her keeping them under control, I’m sure the fight has to be about over for her.
The armored man steps forward.
I remain still.
Another step while I still remain still.
He suddenly raises his sword higher.
Possibly the same stance as before? No, that’s exactly what he wants me to think. I’d be a fool to fall for his tricks.
DASH!!!!
He rushes forward.
I keep my eyes on his body instead of the sword.
His shoulders, his feet, and the way his hips turn this time.
There! An opportunity.
I shift towards the right.
WHIFF!!!!
His sword passes beside me.
For a second his body is completely open but I don’t attack.
The armored man immediately swings the sword backwards towards the exact spot my head would’ve been if I stepped into the opening.
SWOOSH!!!!
I knew that opening was a fake. It worked out in my favor since I didn’t take the chance.
He quickly turns towards me.
For the first time I can feel something change.
He seems kind of surprised.
"You didn’t take it," He says.
I don’t answer.
Maybe I’m starting to understand this better... Not every opportunity is good, some are traps.
~That is a useful lesson.
It is very useful since it helps me gauge everything a bit more.
He turns and rushes towards me again.
CLANG!!!!
Our blades collide.
Instead of immediately trying to overpower him, I let my sword move backwards slightly.
His blade follows mine.
Then I shift my footing.
His sword slides past me and I swing towards his side.
CLANG!!!!
Blocked again.
But this time he had to react which is exactly
what I wanted.
I pull my sword away and immediately swing towards his shoulder.
CLANG!
Another block.
Then his leg moves.
I already know what comes next and I step backwards before his kick even comes.
WHIFF!!
His boot passes in front of me and he stops.
I think I’ve seen that combination enough.
Sword, block, then he uses his body.
Even though it is a bit harder to read at first... He also has a pattern that can be observed.
The armored man lowers his leg.
"You really do learn fast kid," He says with a bit of praise.
He’s still trying to kill me, even with this "compliment".
I raise my sword.
Now I need to make him read me wrong.
He gave me an attack that looked real and changed it at the last second.
I don’t know if I can do that properly yet...
But there’s no other way to learn.
I step forward.
The armored man immediately adjusts his sword.
He expects an attack.
That is just what I want.
I swing towards his shoulder.
CLANG!!!!
He blocks, then I pull away.
Then I do the exact same thing.
CLANG!!!!
Again.
His defense barely changes.
Once more.
CLANG!!!!
The third strike gets blocked just as easily.
I don’t think he understands what I’m doing just yet... Probably just thinks I’m being stupid and repeating myself.
I step backwards.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
I don’t answer, instead I just rush forward again.
My sword moves towards the same shoulder.
His weapon immediately rises to block.
This time I stop the swing before our swords meet.
His sword continues upward and his side opens.
This is my chance.
I lower my blade and swing towards his ribs.
SLASH!!!!
The sword cuts across the side of his armor and he jumps away immediately.
A chunk of black metal falls onto the sand.
Not deep enough but it is plenty to tell me that I can actually get some attacks off on him.
The armored man looks down towards the damaged armor, then towards me.
A low laugh comes from underneath the helmet.
"I’m glad you are learning from me but that just means I need to kill you faster," He says with a serious tone now.
He brings his sword back up.
DASH!!!!
He closes the distance between us.
CLANG!!!!
His sword crashes against mine and I redirect it again.
But his fist immediately comes towards my face.
I lower my head.
WHIFF!!
His fist passes over me, then I swing upwards.
SCRAPE!!!!
My sword catches the front of his chest plate and another line appears across the black armor.
He steps backwards.
I follow this time since I can’t let him reset.
CLANG!
I swing.
Blocked.
CLANG!
Blocked.
I shift towards his left, but he turns with me.
My sword goes towards his leg.
He pulls it back.
So I immediately thrust towards his stomach.
CLANG!!!!
His giant sword turns sideways and stops mine.
The force from the block makes my wrists hurt once again.
He is still much stronger physically. I need to make sure to remember that with each attack.
He pushes.
Instead of fighting against it, I move with the force.
My body turns.
His eyes... wherever they are underneath that helmet, should be following me.
I use the movement to swing from the opposite side.
SLASH!!!!
My sword cuts through one of the straps holding part of his shoulder armor.
The piece drops onto the ground.
THUD!
He immediately backs away.
