She goes towards a strange looking rock and pulls out a small bag which she lays across the ground in front of me.

A few small vials of mysterious liquids, a small water skin, and she puts a real sword out along with them. It looks like it is made of silver.

"I really don’t think you should be going on a hunt so early but I don’t decide these things," Ash says while kneeling down on the ground.

"Moving past that, what is with the weird tension between you and Jun?" I ask with a curious tone.

She sits silently for a moment.

"He’s my father. I just don’t have a good relationship with him because of some past related issues," Ash answers quietly.

I can tell this definitely isn’t something she really wants to talk about so I’ll just drop it now.

"I understand. So what’s in the vials?" I ask to change the topic.

"Each one of these will help with fatigue or damage you take. Just the Elder doesn’t fully believe in them," Ash answers without hesitation.

"Then why would you give them to me?" I question with confusion in my voice.

"I believe in them and want you to use them if you need to," Ash responds with care in her voice.

Vials that help with fatigue and damage? So kind of like some sort of healing potion? That’s the best way I can really refer to it, if I’m being completely honest here.

The other one I don’t really know what to compare it to since I never used any of these before.

I pick up the bag and wrap up the vials carefully before throwing it over my back.

The sword is easy to find a place for since I already have a small sheathe on my side for one. It was originally for the practice sword but this real one will do.

So without thinking I place the blade into the sheathe and it fits perfectly.

"Thank you Ash. I’ll use everything here if needed," I assure her.

I do wonder where I’ll be going from here though. Nobody has said a word about what I’m doing with this hunt or how it even works yet.

"No problem. You’ll need to head east from here since that is the last report I got about anything," Ash says with more of a serious tone.

"Like dragons being out there?" I ask calmly.

"I heard rumors of a weaker one roaming about in the woods to the east," Ash responds.

So I will be making my way towards a potential dragon... How interesting this will be.

"Listen, you can’t give any sort of mercy or leeway for them to use against you. Don’t hesitate to kill them," Ash says with a deadly serious look on her face.

"I won’t. There’s no reason for me to spare them," I reply.

"Good. Then I’d recommend you get going," Ash says before walking past me.

I look back at the bag for a moment to realize that I skipped over the compass that was left in there. Of course I take it out and begin to use it to navigate my way.

Mostly to send me in the right direction which is all I need anyway.

I haven’t really explored outside of the village ever so this will definitely be a new experience for me. My father never really spoke about anything outside of our home.

Neither did my mother. I really do wish they wouldn’t have died during the attack. That is something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life.

Even though my dad died.... He did it protecting me and for the village he cared so much about.

Will I be able to get revenge for them? Make my life worth it?

Those are the questions that I don’t have answers to right now.... But I wish I did have all of the answers to everything. It would make it a lot easier to move on with my life.

Two hours of walking go by...

I finally make it to a forest quite far away from the shack and fields I grew accustomed to. Nothing here seems to be sticking out in the slightest.

Should I hide myself somewhere high? I don’t really know what to do or what to expect even.

Sigh.

I find a tree that I can climb up without any problems and honestly it doesn’t feel any more helpful than being on the ground.

If I do see a dragon... They can fly. A tree is pretty damn useless for any of that, but maybe they’ll be in a human form. That is something I didn’t account for at first.

They didn’t tell me how to spot a dragon either, especially if they do have a human form when I find them.

This really is a bunch of bullshit. I don’t know what to look for or what to expect.

I really am being thrown into the fire without a way to get out right now. Is the Elder really willing to throw my life away for a chance that I might succeed?

I scratch my head for a second as I look back down towards the ground. There is a small path that leads ahead... So people definitely come out here sometimes as well.

CRASH!!!!! RUMBLE!!!!!

The entirety of the forest shakes as something crashes in the distance. It immediately forces me to make my way back down the tree.

"Seems like the dragon might’ve made an appearance," I say without thinking.

I didn’t mean to speak my thoughts out loud but it is too late to take that back... Luckily I don’t think it is close enough to hear me anyway.

After that I begin to make my way towards the distant crash site of this dragon, if it is actually a dragon. I don’t really know what else would crash into the forest around me.
