Since they don’t acknowledge us, I just continue towards the doors and head inside with Sylvia.
Everyone keeps talking this time, completely ignoring us.
I’m kind of glad they aren’t making a big scene after the last time we came in here. Everyone here has a grudge against newcomers.
That’s what I learned after watching Leon deal with the group outside of the guild hall. The exact same reason I believe they won’t look at us now.
Leon must’ve had quite the effect on them.
"Definitely a completely different atmosphere in here after that reaper helped us," Sylvia says quietly.
"I’ll say. I don’t mind it though," I reply while keeping my voice down.
We reach the counter where a man stands behind it checking some papers.
"Here to turn in a quest?" He asks with an eyebrow raised.
"Two quests," I answer.
A small look of shock appears on his face.
"Well, hand them over to me then," He says while extending his hand.
I hand over the quests to him, along with the necklace from the slayer.
The chatter throughout the guild hall goes completely silent after I do that. It is almost like the snap of a finger... That is how quick it changed again.
"Did they really kill that slayer?" A man asks.
"They must’ve," Another man responds.
"I don’t believe it," A woman chimes in.
All that talk for people who were too afraid to even grab the quest in the first place.
I shift my attention back to the man behind the counter.
"Well, this will definitely be more than enough proof to provide you with proper compensation," He says while grabbing something from under the counter.
Right. I believe this will be the first time I actually get money from something.
I’ve not had a single thing to my name since I left Astien. I won’t have to rely on other people for everything now... That’ll be nice.
He hands me a pretty decently sized pouch full of coins.
"Thank you," I reply calmly.
"No, thank you both. That town can finally have some peace," He says with a grateful tone.
"Of course," Sylvia speaks up with a kind tone.
Killing a bunch of people isn’t something I’d thank anyone for but it happens. I’ll have to get over it at some point or another.
~You really do have quite a way of thinking lately Kain.
I’d say it has a lot to do with everything I have seen and been through. A lot of that plays a big part in why I react the way I do nowadays.
Regardless, it won’t stop me from doing my part in this war. There are still a lot of dragons out there bringing chaos to the lands and killing humans.
It is probably about time we get back on the road again.
That little stop is probably more than enough to provide for whatever food or drinks I need going forward. At least for the time being.
I feel Sylvia grab my arm.
"Ready to leave?" She asks.
"Definitely," I answer without hesitation.
I look towards the door to see the group from outside is now in here with us. They don’t look angry anymore but it isn’t exactly happiness either.
Perhaps they are shocked too?
The girl with blue hair immediately walks over to us before we can get any further.
"Did you really kill the slayer?" She asks with a serious expression on her face.
"Yeah. Not really something I want to keep reliving," I answer with a serious tone.
"You guys also saved that town from the bandits... So I won’t give you a bunch of shit anymore," She says before walking past us.
Alright? I don’t think I would’ve cared anyway since we are leaving here today. There’s no telling when we’ll even be back in Aerithel since we are fighting dragons.
People don’t really think about that.
Flash!!
Everything around me instantly starts to fall apart as black flames purge the adventurers in the hall. Blood begins to paint the walls, the floor, and even what remains of the ceiling.
Instantly I turn to look towards Sylvia but she isn’t standing there anymore.
What the hell is going on?!
I rush out the guild hall after that to see everything is completely in flames with nobody left alive. Just death and despair everywhere as dragons fly overhead.
Shuffle. Shuffle.
Footsteps move in the distance.
I turn to look for any sign of who could be walking towards me... Only to see the same man from the dream before. He disappears before my eyes and reappears with a hand gripping my shoulder once again.
"Slayers really didn’t think we’d take our shot against a full kingdom? How pathetic," He says with a serious tone.
The pressure immediately swallows me while as I find it impossible to move a single muscle.
This dragon is on a whole different level... I can’t even move. It wasn’t this intense last time so why am I having such a hard time now...?
"Kain?" A voice echoes around me.
My eyes dart around for any sign of the voice.
"Kain?" It echoes around me once again.
I blink a few times and within seconds I find myself standing back in the guild hall with Sylvia by my side.
"Kain are you okay?" Sylvia asks with concern in her voice.
"Y-Yeah. I was just deep in thought I guess," I respond with a bit of uncertainty.
"Okay. Why don’t we get out of here now," Sylvia says as she drags me to the door.
She pushes open the door.
I notice instantly that everything is perfectly okay out here now, almost like nothing ever happened.
Why did I see that vision? I never saw anything while awake before... So why now? It doesn’t make any sense.
There’s no indication to tell me when it’ll happen either... Just that I’m not strong enough to fight against that dragon who does it.
