Slime True Immortal

Chapter 423: Your Majesty, I Have Understood

Chen Yu asked: "What kind of demon is Magnus?"

He truly had never heard of him, nor was there any need to remember the name of such a minor demon.

Anna quickly connected to the Gel Network, searched through the intelligence, and said: "I found the records on the Stone Descendants. Magnus is an eleventh-rank high-tier demon, a berserker demon subspecies, and the demonic lord of the Poisonous Swamp in the eastern part of the Abyss's first layer."

"Berserker demons have toad-like heads, their bodies covered in dark green scales. When fighting, they rely on a stench aura to poison and weaken their enemies, then use their powerful physique to withstand damage until their opponent is exhausted."

"But Magnus is a mutated demon. His strength attribute is exceptionally prominent among his kind, and he's more adept at taking the initiative in attacks."

Anna's gaze fell on Galvin, a trace of worry in her eyes. "Teacher, isn't an opponent like this too terrifying?"

Chen Yu looked at Galvin: "Are you sure you want to choose him as your opponent?"

Galvin's gaze did not waver: "Yes."

"If I die here, I ask Your Majesty to take my corpse back. If I don't die, it means I have achieved victory."

Actually, as long as he intervened, there was no danger for Galvin at all.

Galvin shook his head: "No, Your Majesty, please do not interfere."

He looked at Chen Yu: "I'm beginning to understand what you meant by the Dao."

"This is my Dao. If I die there, it means I wasn't strong enough. It's what I deserve, and I'm not worthy of proving my Dao."

Seeing how resolute he was, Chen Yu couldn't say much more.

He jiggled his gel a bit, which was his way of agreeing.

Anna asked worriedly through the Gel Network: "Your Majesty, my teacher..."

Chen Yu said: "Don't worry, trust in Galvin's strength. If it really doesn't work out, I'll save him."

He said this, but inside he knew very well what the failure of a Dao-proving battle meant to a knight.

But whatever. Only by keeping his life was there a future.

If his life was gone, then nothing remained.

He set aside his concerns and, turning into a green light with the other two, sped off towards the great canyon to the east.

After passing through the canyon, the terrain below changed abruptly.

The dry black wasteland disappeared, replaced by a vast swamp filled with poisonous miasma.

Dark green, sky-piercing ancient trees grew from the black mud, their canopies interweaving into an impenetrable ceiling that cut the Blood Moon's light into fragmented patches falling onto the water's surface.

Giant dragonflies, their wings translucent, darted between the tree canopies, their wings shimmering with a dark purple poisonous light.

In the distant swamp, a patrol of demons carrying fish spears was wading through waist-deep black water.

The environment here was far harsher than the swamp the slimes inhabited.

Chen Yu's Divine Sense spread out ahead.

He discovered at least six fortresses in this swamp, each garrisoned with a considerable number of demon legions, all connected by hidden waterways.

Good grief, this demon's territory was almost comparable to a Greater Demon's.

It seemed this berserker demon named Magnus was indeed something special.

Chen Yu sped deeper into the swamp and soon stopped before a fortress that was half-submerged in the water.

The fortress's outer wall was built from a mix of black volcanic rock and dark green stone quarried from the swamp. The wall was covered in a layer of moss, almost blending perfectly with the surrounding swamp.

The fortress's main gate was wide open, and at the entrance stood two totem poles made from stacked troll skulls, with dark green flames burning atop them.

"Ribbit! Enemies!"

The demon standing on the watchtower was the first to spot them.

It let out a shrill alarm, and the entire fortress instantly stirred like an ant's nest that had been poked.

"Two humans!"

Several demons carrying fish spears rushed out from the fortress's side gate. They looked up to see Galvin and Anna floating in the air and brandished their spears over the water, letting out provocative roars toward the sky: "Sly humans, come down! Let your grandpas skewer you into barbecue!"

Anna whispered, "Your Majesty, it seems they didn't see you."

Chen Yu said, "They probably think I'm your pet."

Anna rubbed the back of her head, a little embarrassed.

Galvin frowned slightly and leaped directly into the water.

His boots splashed into the black swamp water, kicking up murky spray.

He drew his knight's sword and swung it upward. The demon at the front didn't even have time to react before its body was split in two.

A horizontal slash.

Three demons' bodies swayed, then collapsed straight into the water.

The knight's sword spun in Galvin's hand, and the tip pierced a demon attempting a backstab from behind.

But the commotion had already attracted the attention of more demons inside the fortress.

Urgent horn calls came from the watchtower, and more demons poured out from every exit of the fortress.

Several demon archers hiding on the watchtower drew short bows and shot poisoned arrows at Galvin.

A few more demons, lurking behind tree trunks, blew poison darts in a sneak attack.

Galvin didn't want to waste time with them.

He focused his mind, stomped hard on the ground, and leaped from the water's surface like a gray eagle. He raised his knight's sword above his head, and a layer of azure wind blade condensed on the blade.

[Gray Eagle Slash]

The blade fell.

A deep gash appeared on the hard stone wall, running from the top all the way to the base, cleaving even the demons standing on the wall in two.

The collapsed stone wall crashed into the water, sending up a huge splash.

"Ah!!"

"Lord Magnus! Intruders!"

The few surviving demons fled in terror deeper into the fortress.

Galvin didn't pause after landing; he thrust his knight's sword forward.

[Thorny Chain Thrust]

The sword tip left dense afterimages in the air, each one turning into a sharp wind blade.

Before the demons on the watchtowers and in the trees could fire a second arrow, they were pierced through the throat by the wind blades that came from afar. All of them fell, crashing into the water's surface.

Just as Galvin was about to press forward, a deafening roar erupted from deep within the fortress.

"Human!"

A massive figure leaped out from inside the fortress and landed on the water in front of Galvin. The shockwave blasted the surrounding black swamp water outward, forming a ring-shaped curtain of water.

It was a demon twice the size of an ogre, with a flat, toad-like head, its body covered in dark green scales. From the gaps between the scales, a foul, stinking steam constantly seeped out.

It was Magnus.

He had finally appeared.

Galvin adjusted his sword stance, switching to a parrying posture.

The fish spear shot forward with a piercing sound. Galvin blocked it with his sword, but the immense force from the spear drove him backward, his feet carving two deep furrows in the mud beneath the water.

Magnus then swept his weapon horizontally, and Galvin, sword and all, was sent flying. He tumbled twice on the water's surface before regaining his balance.

Magnus slammed his fish spear into the ground, its shaft sinking into the mud with a dull thud.

His bulging toad eyes first looked at Galvin, then lifted to look at Anna in the sky. He was about to say something.

Then he noticed the quiet, light green slime squatting calmly beside Anna.

His bulging eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

"The... Slime Emperor?!"

His voice cracked from sheer terror. He staggered back a few steps, almost dropping his fish spear.

Chen Yu found this interesting and asked: "How do you know who I am?"

Magnus stammered, his voice trembling noticeably: "Slime Emperor, the Demon King's sworn enemy."

"The missionaries of the Demon King Cult have already traveled across the entire first layer. All the demon lords know your appearance."

"I never thought this day would come."

"Come on! You can kill me, but you can't kill my loyalty to the Demon King!"

A strange expression appeared on Chen Yu's small face.

If he remembered correctly, the Demon King Cult founded by that demon actually worshipped him too.

He hadn't expected Ark and the others to be so capable, spreading the faith of the Demon King throughout the Abyss's first layer.

He thought for a moment, then spoke: "Kill the knight before you, or you die today."

Magnus's toad-like face twisted.

He lowered his head, truly looking for the first time at this human knight he had overlooked.

Galvin stood in knee-deep black swamp water, holding his sword with both hands, his entire body soaked in mud and the black blood of demons. But his gaze was calm and resolute, as if he had long been prepared to accept this battle.

Magnus swallowed his saliva and said fiercely: "Dead either way. I'll kill your retainer first! All for the Demon King!"

The moment the words left his mouth, his massive body was already charging toward Galvin.

His speed was far faster than his bulk suggested. The water beneath his feet exploded upon impact, and the fish spear shot toward Galvin's chest with a piercing sound.

Galvin raised his sword to block.

The moment the fish spear and knight's sword collided, sparks erupted from the point of contact.

But once again, he lost the contest of strength. Pushed backward by the spear, his feet carved two deep furrows in the underwater mud, and he only stopped when his back slammed into an ancient swamp tree.

Although his plate armor hadn't been pierced by the fish spear, the impact force penetrated the metal, rattling his chest and making it feel tight.

Galvin took a brief breath, ducked down to dodge the fish spear, then raised his head again.

Even facing such a powerful demon, the heat in his gaze hadn't diminished in the slightest.

He gripped his sword with both hands, adopting a starting stance. His breathing rhythm steadily quickened, as if gathering power for some kind of explosive release.

[Strength of the Bear]

[Sharpness of the Eagle]

[Agility of the Cat]

A series of blessings lit up on his body. Galvin let out a roar and took the initiative to meet the attack.

The knight's sword and fish spear clashed once more, again sending out blinding sparks.

With the aid of the blessings, he barely managed to parry Magnus's strength, while nimbly maneuvering and shifting his position on the water's surface.

He leaped into the air, striking down from above at Magnus's head, only for Magnus to block it.

The sword blade grazed past. Galvin sidestepped, circled around the fish spear's attack range, and struck at Magnus's flank, forcing him to constantly defend.

His formidable combat skills came into play at this moment. Each attack landed precisely on Magnus's weak points, the blade slipping through the gaps in his scales, leaving wounds on the relatively vulnerable joints.

Magnus grew enraged by this flexible guerrilla tactic.

He spun around and swept his fish spear horizontally.

Galvin leaped backward, kicked off a tree to dodge, and used the rebound force to shoot back toward Magnus like a cannonball. His knight's sword was pointed forward, his entire body turning into a gray-blue blur.

[Gray Eagle Slash]

The knight's sword scraped along the fish spear's metal shaft, sending out a long stream of sparks.

The wind blade cut through the air, leaving a gash on Magnus's chest, from which dark green blood gushed out.

Magnus grunted but didn't retreat. The muscles on his arm bulged, and his other hand grabbed Galvin by the ankle. He lifted him up and slammed him hard onto the water's surface.

The impact force blasted the surrounding black swamp water into the air, forming a ring-shaped curtain, and even the mud on the shore was shaken into a churn.

Galvin was dizzy from the impact, but he seized the opportunity in an instant. He released his grip and threw his knight's sword.

The gale swirling around the blade coalesced into an intangible spear of wind the moment it left his hand, striking Magnus in the chest.

The wind spear pierced through his scales, exploding into a cloud of blood mist.

The pain made Magnus release his grip on Galvin's ankle, staggering back two steps.

The moment he hit the water, Galvin adjusted his center of gravity. One hand plunged into the water, grabbing the sword hilt buried in the mud. He pulled it free, rose to his feet, and kicked Magnus squarely in the chest.

The force of this kick wasn't enough to knock Magnus over, but it successfully pushed him back another half-step, buying Galvin some breathing room.

Although these injuries weren't fatal, being beaten to such a state by a tenth-rank human knight was enough to infuriate Magnus.

He roared, and the fish spear shot out again, faster than before.

Galvin raised his sword to block, but the force behind Magnus's thrust was far greater than any previous attack. The knight's sword was forcefully knocked aside.

Magnus's fist, wreathed in immense power, slammed into Galvin's chest.

The enchanted plate armor shattered under the heavy blow. Galvin was sent flying by the punch, skidding across the water's surface, carving a long trail before slamming into an ancient swamp tree.

The trunk snapped in the collision, and the canopy collapsed with a crash into the water, sending up a huge splash.

Magnus had already caught up.

He unleashed his most ferocious close-quarters combo.

His fists, his fish spear, his tail, and even his toad-like head all became weapons of attack.

Under his storm-like assault, Galvin could barely hold his ground. The remaining pieces of his plate armor shattered under the relentless heavy blows.

Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, dripping from his chin into the black swamp water.

In the high sky, Anna clenched her fists, her palms drenched with sweat.

She turned to look at Chen Yu but found His Majesty still watching calmly.

She opened her mouth, then swallowed her words, turning her gaze back to the scene below.

Galvin fought and retreated, luring Magnus into the narrow passages of the fortress, using the terrain to restrict his massive body's range of motion.

The knight's sword kept flashing in the dim passage, each flash accompanied by the deafening clang of metal colliding.

Walls shattered from the impacts, stone pillars supporting the roof were broken in half, and the entire fortress kept collapsing amid their fierce battle.

"Damn human!" Magnus's furious roar came from deep within the fortress.

His stench aura erupted from his body, a thick miasma of poison mixed with oily steam spreading out in all directions.

Galvin's movements became sluggish. The poison contained within the stench aura made him dizzy, his vision starting to blur.

Magnus seized the opportunity. He punched Galvin in the chest, sending him flying straight through the fortress's outer wall and tumbling backward into the swamp outside.

Galvin knelt on one knee in the black swamp water, his entire body soaked. The plate armor on his upper body was completely shattered, revealing the bloody, mangled flesh beneath.

His chest heaved violently, his breathing was rough and labored. He wasn't in good shape.

Magnus was in a slightly better condition. His massive body was covered in sword cuts, but most of the wounds were slowly healing.

He breathed heavily, stepped over the collapsed wall, and looked down at the knight kneeling in the water.

"Human, without a doubt, your corpse won't be making it back to the cemetery."

"Because you'll be buried here by me."

Galvin, kneeling, heard Magnus's words, looked up, and surprisingly let out a hoarse laugh.

"In a place this stinking, you'd better bury yourself."

He used his knight's sword to support his body, slowly standing up.

Every movement he made pulled at his wounds, blood seeping out and flowing down along the lines of his arms. But at that moment, his gaze became exceptionally sharp.

Shaken by his momentum, Magnus frowned and said: "I have to admit, of all the humans I've seen, you are both the most courageous and the most foolish!"

[Multi-Attack]

His massive body bounced forward rapidly, unleashing a series of claw strikes at Galvin.

Galvin raised his sword to block, but Magnus's attack speed was too fast and his strength too heavy, nearly knocking the knight's sword out of his hand.

He staggered back with each impact, leaving deep footprints in the swamp water.

He steadied himself once more, clashing with Magnus again.

His swordsmanship had changed at this point.

The knight's sword, like a claw, continuously tore new wounds into Magnus's scales. Each attack avoided his most heavily defended areas, targeting the wounds that had already been opened, tearing them deeper.

Even when frequently on the losing side, Galvin kept searching for opportunities.

He sidestepped to dodge Magnus's claw strike. The corner of his eye caught a glimpse of an opening under Magnus's left rib as he swung his claw. Without thinking, he thrust forward.

But then, a cunning look flashed in Magnus's eyes.

He had deliberately exposed his ribcage to bait Galvin into striking.

Once Galvin's sword came in, his hand could grab Galvin's neck and snap it.

Magnus extended his other hand, ready to grab his throat.

Then he saw Galvin suddenly change his move.

The knight's sword was retracted mid-air, and Galvin dodged his hand.

Damn it!

This cunning human knight was also trying to trick him.

But it was too late to react.

[Gray Iron Guillotine]

Galvin let out a roar. The knight's sword was wreathed in gale-force wind. He leaped down, slashing like a swooping gray eagle.

The blade traced a silvery-gray arc in the dim light. With a crunch, blood and swamp water splattered outward from their center.

Magnus blocked the sword with his left arm.

The knight's sword embedded itself in his forearm, nearly severing the bone.

He stumbled back a few steps, staring at Galvin in shock and suspicion. The intense pain momentarily snapped his rationality, replaced by surging fury.

He roared and swung a claw strike. Galvin raised his sword to block but was still sent flying, crashing into the water and sending up a huge spray.

Galvin knelt in the water, gasping for air. His arms were trembling, and the sword hilt was stained with blood oozing from his palm.

Magnus approached angrily.

His injured left arm hung by his side, dark green blood dripping from his fingertips, but he didn't care.

He only needed one more strike to finish off this tenacious human knight.

Galvin used his sword to support himself once more and charged at Magnus.

The two clashed again.

But anyone could see that the gap in attributes between Galvin and Magnus was too vast.

Through the continuous exchanges, Galvin had almost exhausted his stamina. Every swing of his sword showed his arms trembling more violently, his breathing rhythm completely chaotic.

Magnus's breathing was equally ragged, but his stamina was clearly more abundant.

Anna finally couldn't help but ask: "Your Majesty, will my teacher be alright?"

Chen Yu continued to watch Galvin's fierce battle below, a peculiar light in his gaze.

Alright?

He had a feeling this demon was about to be in trouble.

He could sense the Dao resonance on Galvin growing more intense and also noticed that he had secretly been conserving some strength.

In the swamp, Galvin was once again sent flying.

He lay face down in the water, his shoulders moving. He used his sword to push himself up, slowly rising to his feet.

He raised his sword, the tip pointing at Magnus.

"Again."

Magnus stared at him. Even he had to admit the tenacity of the knight before him.

"A commendable knight. In the long years I've lived, humans capable of draining this much of my power are few and far between."

"If you hadn't become the Slime Emperor's retainer, I could have recommended you to Lord Ark to join the Demon King Cult, making you a demon knight feared by all in the Abyss."

"A pity. You chose the wrong path."

His voice suddenly rose, turning into a hoarse roar: "The Demon King shall prevail!"

As he finished, his massive body crashed through the water, charging straight at Galvin.

He expected Galvin to raise his sword to block, as he had done before.

But this time, the man, drenched in blood, simply looked up at him.

The sharpness that erupted from his gaze made Magnus's movements halt.

[Gray Eagle Totem]

A gale-force wind swept up from beneath Galvin's feet.

The swamp water was whipped into a spiraling water tornado, lifting him up into the air.

The phantom of a blue-gray giant eagle flashed behind him for an instant, its wings spreading, blotting out the light of the Blood Moon.

Galvin hovered in the center of the water tornado, holding his sword with both hands. The wounds that were still bleeding on his body quickly stopped bleeding in the gale.

Magnus halted his charge, turning his head abruptly. He saw the human knight had already raised his sword.

[Gray Iron Guillotine]

Galvin transformed into a swooping gray eagle, plunging straight down from the air.

!!!

The entire swamp exploded from the impact of that strike.

Giant trees were torn apart by the gale, their trunks and branches swept into the swirling storm, splintering into sawdust.

The swamp water was blasted into the sky by the shockwave, forming a massive, sky-obscuring curtain of water under the dim, deep-red Blood Moon.

Chen Yu raised his hand. All the water spray that splashed toward him was automatically deflected when it approached, not a single drop landing on Anna.

Anna murmured a quick "Thank you, Your Majesty," then hurriedly looked toward the center of the explosion.

The steam slowly dissipated.

Magnus was still standing, but his left arm had been severed at the shoulder by the wind blade. A massive amount of dark green blood gushed from the stump, pooling at his feet.

His right hand still held his fish spear in a death grip, locked in a stalemate with Galvin's knight's sword.

Galvin was panting heavily, his arms trembling violently.

All his wounds had burst open. Blood dripped down along the fragments of his armor, dyeing the swamp water at his feet a light shade of red.

He had clearly reached his limit.

A twisted smile spread across Magnus's toad-like face: "In the end, I am the victor."

He swung his right arm, knocking aside Galvin's knight's sword, along with the man himself.

Then he extended his claw. With a sound of flesh being pierced, he drove it into Galvin's chest, lifting him high into the air like a trophy.

Galvin coughed up a mouthful of blood, his body going limp.

"Teacher!" Anna cried out in panic, about to charge down.

Chen Yu stopped her. She struggled to break free: "Your Majesty, why won't you let me save him?"

"Look again," Chen Yu said.

Anna was startled. Following his gaze downward, she saw the man held high in the air by Magnus slowly raising his arm, pressing a finger against Magnus's forehead.

In a weak voice, he said: "Who told you that all I have is my sword?"

*Pchi.*

A spike of condensed gale shot from Galvin's fingertip, piercing through Magnus's skull and exiting from the back of his head.

Magnus's eyes bulged wide.

He opened his mouth, as if trying to say something.

Then his body went limp. His claws released their grip, and his massive form toppled backward, crashing into the water, sending up a spray of murky water.

Galvin tumbled from the air, falling into the knee-deep swamp water. The bloody hole in his chest was gushing blood.

He lay on his back in the water, saying weakly: "Your Majesty, did you see? It was me who won."

"Teacher!" Anna broke free from Chen Yu's restraint, jumped into the swamp water, and rushed to Galvin's side. She propped his head up on her knee.

Her hands trembling, she pulled emergency bandages and life potions from her pouch. She first pressed a bandage against the bleeding point on his chest, then bit off the cork from the potion bottle and poured it into his mouth.

"Teacher, hang in there! Don't close your eyes!"

Her voice was choked with tears. The tears falling from her eyes landed on the blood and grime on Galvin's face, washing it away.

"An... Anna..."

Galvin took her hand.

She quickly lowered her head, her voice filled with urgency and panic: "What is it? Tell me!"

Galvin looked at her, and a smile appeared on his usually stern face.

"I... I have understood."
