Slime True Immortal

Chapter 422: The Path of War Frenzy

However, the gap between demonic paths could be even larger than the difference between slimes and humans.

In the eyes of most orthodox cultivators, demonic cultivators were wicked people who pursued quick and easy progress through inhuman means like blood sacrifices.

Such demonic cultivators usually didn't live past a hundred years, and those who reached the Golden Core stage were even rarer. Before orthodox cultivators could even exterminate them, they often killed themselves with their own evil arts.

But the demonic path Galvin had comprehended was even more special.

It was more extreme than the orthodox Great Dao, harming both oneself and others, damaging the way of heaven and humanity, and had always been suppressed by orthodox sects.

Such cultivators, even if they didn't practice evil arts or resort to blood sacrifices, would still be rejected by heaven and earth because the path itself was too extreme.

From Chen Yu's understanding, the orthodox Great Dao was like normal cells in the universe, while the demonic path was more like mutated cancer cells.

Not only would it proliferate chaotically, but it could even potentially erode the Great Dao itself.

Therefore, only during times of great heavenly calamity, when all living beings faced devastation, would demonic path Dao Masters be allowed to emerge and use more extreme methods to save the world.

In other words, comprehending the demonic path here had almost no side effects.

In fact, comprehending the demonic path didn't affect a person's sanity. On the contrary, it was because a cultivator's will was already twisted that they would comprehend the demonic path.

Galvin had no issues with his nature, and his talent was top-notch in the Border Corps. But he was too proud.

Chen Yu guessed that it was precisely this proud and stubborn personality that manifested his knight's path as a demonic one.

What could he say? Only Galvin could pull this off.

"You all stay here and keep watch. I'm going in to take a look."

Chen Yu instructed Anna and the others, then his gel directly merged into the wall, silently penetrating into the room.

Inside the meditation room, black mist surged out from the center.

Galvin was currently half-kneeling on the ground in pain, one hand firmly supporting himself on the floor, the other clutching the collar of his chest, gasping heavily.

As Chen Yu approached, those black mists, as if disturbed by some force, surged even more violently.

Galvin's face became even more pained. A low growl escaped his throat, and he collapsed to the ground.

He slowly opened his eyes, and in his blurry vision, a green figure bouncing toward him appeared, wearing a small Crown on its head.

"...Your Majesty?"

"It's me." Chen Yu radiated a gentle life-giving light. The green glow covered Galvin like a mild stream of water.

Those surging black mists noticeably quieted down when touched by the green light. Their intensity gradually decreased, like a beast that had been calmed.

Galvin's breathing gradually steadied, and the hand clutching his chest also relaxed.

After feeling his vitality and physical strength gradually recover under the green light's radiance, he pushed himself up with both hands and slowly sat up.

"Your Majesty, I'm very sorry for worrying you."

Chen Yu wobbled his gel: "It's alright. Don't feel guilty, Galvin. These are the manifestations of your power. You should feel honored."

"Honored?" Galvin looked down at his own palm.

The black mist in his palm had mostly receded, leaving only a few black patterns slowly moving across his skin's surface. He was silent for a moment.

"But I almost lost control of it just now. If it suddenly erupted on the battlefield, I might have hurt the knights beside me."

"That's just inexperience. It's like a child who just learned to walk - they always have to fall a few times first." Chen Yu bounced in front of him.

"You should have seen my decree about the Great Dao Knight. Congratulations, Galvin. You are comprehending the Great Dao."

Hearing this, Galvin looked down at the black mist still slowly surging in his palm.

When his resistance to this power decreased in his heart, the black mist instead became gentler and gradually retracted back into his body.

"Is this the Great Dao? But I don't feel very good about it."

"It's like an evil wizard whispering in my mind, tempting me to find opponents and defeat them."

Another unknown Great Dao.

But since Galvin had such an urge, this path should be related to duels.

"Having such an urge is normal," Chen Yu said. "The Great Dao amplifies the most essential things within you. You are a knight. A knight's instinct is to find opponents and prove that their own path is stronger."

Galvin gradually regained his composure. After retracting all the black mist back into his body, Chen Yu had him go out to reassure the knights waiting outside, then planned to take him away.

When the door to the meditation room was pushed open, the few people standing in the corridor all breathed a sigh of relief at the same time.

Anna quickly stepped forward, her eyes scanning Galvin's complexion up and down: "Teacher, are you alright now?"

Galvin replied simply: "I'm fine."

"I need to accompany His Majesty for a while. When I return, I'll check your homework."

Anna finally relaxed. She glanced at Chen Yu, hesitated for a moment, then gathered her courage and stepped forward: "Your Majesty, may I go with Teacher?"

"I'm a bit worried about him. And whenever he encounters something, he just doesn't like to talk. What if something happens on the way..."

Galvin frowned, his tone clearly displeased: "What do you take me for? A child?"

Anna shrank her neck at his glare, but she didn't back down.

Chen Yu helplessly wobbled his gel.

It was the same old Galvin with zero conversational tact, always able to render those who cared about him speechless.

He remembered that Anna was on the list of Legendary seeds. Taking her along for exposure wouldn't hurt, so he immediately agreed.

Once he agreed, Galvin stopped objecting.

Although his words were harsh, he never argued with His Majesty's decisions.

Anna beamed: "Thank you, Your Majesty!"

"Everyone disperse." Chen Yu led Galvin and Anna, bouncing out to the training ground outside.

The two of them and the slime turned into a streak of green light shooting straight into the sky, piercing through the gray mist clouds of the Dark Realm and flying westward.

Anna marveled at the rapidly receding scenery below.

After ascending from Darkness City, before long, she could see scattered dots of town lights on the earth. After a while, the terrain began to look unfamiliar.

She couldn't help but sigh in amazement.

Although Galvin didn't exclaim like Anna, there was a hint of longing on his face.

He asked, "Your Majesty, may I ask where we are going next?"

"To find you some opponents."

Chen Yu's Divine Sense covered hundreds of kilometers around, penetrating through the clouds of the Dark Realm, sweeping across the vast forests of Golden Radiance Valley, crossing several winding rivers, and locking onto a valley hidden between two low hills.

Inside the valley was a mixed tribe of trolls and goblins, a sizable one. Judging by the number of crude huts scattered across the hillside, there were at least a few hundred goblins.

Chen Yu stopped above the goblin tribe. Galvin followed his gaze downward.

"A greenskin tribe. The largest goblin settlement in the East Valley. They've been entrenched here for decades."

"Several nearby towns have suffered from their raids. The Adventurer's Guild has put bounties on them for years, but hasn't been able to wipe them out completely."

"Every time an adventurer squad comes, they hide in the deep caves of the hills, then come out again when the heat dies down."

"Good." Chen Yu said. "They are now your dueling opponents. Go ahead."

Although Galvin was puzzled inside as to why His Majesty was doing this, his face showed no unnecessary expression.

He nodded in acknowledgment, then broke away from the green light and fell directly to the ground.

He landed in the open space at the center of the tribe, creating a loud crash.

The massive commotion immediately drew the attention of the trolls and goblins. The entire tribe fell into chaos like an ant nest that had been poked.

Shrieks rose one after another as countless green figures surged out from crude huts and caves, converging toward the source of the noise.

Some held rusted scimitars, some dragged thick wooden clubs, and a few trolls carried giant clubs carved from whole tree trunks, trudging out from the depths of the camp with heavy steps.

Upon seeing that the intruder was just a single human knight, they all let out taunting roars.

"Hahaha! It's a human!"

"Food delivered to our doorstep!"

Galvin calmly drew his knight's sword.

He swung the sword in a horizontal arc, and a wind blade cut across the ground, neatly slicing dozens of goblins in the fan-shaped area in front of him in half.

The shrieking stopped abruptly. Every goblin halted in their tracks.

The few trolls were also shocked by the sight, but that quickly turned to rage as they roared and charged at Galvin.

Galvin didn't even give them a proper glance. He twisted his blade, and the gale it summoned instantly shredded the trolls that tried to ram him into bloody fragments.

The remaining goblins stood frozen, meeting Galvin's calm gaze.

"Ah!!"

A minute later, there was not a single living creature left in the entire tribe.

Watching this from high above, Anna clicked her tongue: "Teacher still hates goblins as much as ever."

Chen Yu wanted to say that he also hated goblins quite a bit. Those little green things were a scourge no matter where they appeared.

Standing on the devastated ground, Galvin wiped the blood from his blade with his vambrace before sheathing his knight's sword.

His breathing remained steady. He hadn't even broken a sweat. The whole affair hadn't even served as a warm-up for him.

Chen Yu lifted him up with his Divine Sense and asked with interest: "So? Did you feel anything special? Any insights, perhaps?"

Galvin shook his head: "Sorry, Your Majesty. They were too weak. I couldn't even stir up any desire to fight in my heart."

Chen Yu crouched on the Flying Sword, pondering. Strange. Could this Great Dao actually depend on the enemy's level?

At the very least, the opponent had to be able to spark his fighting spirit.

"Alright. Let's find you some tough opponents."

Chen Yu opened a fissure leading to the Abyss.

They entered the gray sky of the Abyss, flying over the desolate land. When the demons on the ground looked up and saw the green light, they scrambled and dove into their lairs, too scared to even stick their heads out.

Chen Yu searched around and stopped in front of a pitch-black magma fortress.

The fortress's outer walls were built from cooled black volcanic rock, the gaps filled with dark red magma that glowed with intense heat in the darkness.

The fortress gate was open. Inside, a scorpion-tail demon sat on a pile of bones, lowering its head to gnaw on the raw flesh of some unknown creature.

Its body was much larger than an ordinary demon's, covered in dark red carapace. A scorpion tail, longer than its body, swayed slowly behind it.

Anna quickly spoke: "This is the territory of the demon Bashak. I remember my lecturer mentioning him in demon biology class at the academy."

"He's the most ferocious demonic lord in this area. Even the Dawn Council has put a bounty on him."

"Mm." Galvin nodded slightly.

Floating in the Abyssal sky, facing the fortress that reeked of sulfur and blood, his expression remained calm without a trace of fear.

He jumped straight down again, crashing directly into the scorpion-tail demon's domain.

Bashak was busy eating when he suddenly saw a human fall from the sky and land in front of him.

He was stunned for a moment, not understanding how this human had appeared in his territory.

Before he could even ask the intruder's intentions, the knight spoke first.

"Come on. Show me your power."

"Arrogant human."

Bashak threw the half-gnawed bone in his hand to the ground, stood up, and grabbed the massive blade beside him that was taller than a man.

In his territory, a human knight dared to speak to him in this tone. If that wasn't a provocation, what was?

He roared and charged forward, his great blade swinging down from above with a whoosh of wind.

Galvin sidestepped the strike.

The great blade struck empty air, its edge slamming into the ground and carving a deep crack into the black volcanic rock.

Having missed with his overhead slash, Bashak was about to follow up with a horizontal cut when Galvin kicked him square in the chest.

The force of the kick was astonishing. Bashak's massive body staggered backward several steps before he barely managed to steady himself. A crack appeared in the carapace on his chest.

But he was a demonic lord who had crawled through the Abyss for many years. Cunning and deceit were etched into his bones.

The frontal attack was just a feint. As he retreated, the scorpion stinger on his tail silently lashed out, stabbing toward Galvin from a tricky angle.

Both the timing and the angle of the strike were devious. An opponent facing him would usually be entirely focused on that blade swing, and by the time they noticed the scorpion stinger, it would already be too late.

But Galvin didn't even turn around.

It was as if he had eyes in the back of his head. He swung his scabbard sideways, precisely parrying the scorpion tail.

Sparks erupted between the stinger and the scabbard. The poisonous barb scraped past the scabbard without touching him.

Bashak's pupils contracted sharply.

He realized that this human knight was not the ordinary trash he had encountered before.

He put away his contempt and began to seriously contend with Galvin.

But after a few rounds of exchange, his expression changed completely.

He found that his vaunted strength couldn't gain any advantage against this human knight.

Every swing from his opponent carried even more force than his own. Every parry was as stable as a vice clamping down on his blade.

He was knocked back again and again, each step leaving crushed pits in the magma rock floor.

What infuriated him even more was that this human knight had been muttering something throughout the fight.

The pace wasn't fast, but every word was crystal clear in his ears.

"Too weak... too weak..."

Damn it! Who was supposed to be the demon here!?

Bashak roared in fury, swinging his blade in a desperate counterattack.

And then he was sent flying again.

His great blade slipped from his hands, spinning through the air before embedding itself into a crevice in the rock face far away.

He grew more and more desperate with each passing moment, feeling like he had become this knight's training dummy.

No matter how he fought back, he couldn't inflict any real damage on Galvin, only making himself look even more pathetic.

By the end, he was covered in wounds, his carapace riddled with cracks, dark red blood seeping through the fissures.

He couldn't hold on any longer.

He suddenly stepped back, threw down his weapon, and raised his hands: "I surrender! I surrender! From now on, this is your territory!"

Galvin pointed his sword at him, his tone completely flat: "I'm not interested in your territory. Tell me, are there any stronger demons nearby?"

Bashak was stunned for a moment, then a surge of ecstasy filled his heart. This human knight was seeking his own death. Well, he couldn't blame him for that.

His scorpion tail swayed gently behind him, pointing eastward: "Magnus! You definitely can't beat him. He's the most powerful Abyssal Lord in this region. Even the great inferno demons show him some respect."

"Where is he?"

"Just past the great canyon to the east. Fly through that fissure and you'll see his fortress."

"Good."

The moment the word left his lips, Bashak's head rolled to the ground.

Galvin sheathed his knight's sword without even glancing at the demon's corpse. He lifted his head and looked toward Chen Yu.

There was something different in his eyes now, something like a burning battle intent.

He returned to Chen Yu, bowed, and his voice was firmer than before: "Your Majesty, I believe I can feel some of what you call the Dao. But I need even stronger opponents. I need opponents strong enough to kill me."

Chen Yu couldn't help but mutter to himself.

Well, it looks like this Great Dao also turns people into masochists.
