"My husband has already announced it; I am Mrs. Lockwood." Evelyn rolled her eyes, "If self-proclaimed ones like you could count, the world would already be in chaos!"
"Don’t be so smug!" Eleanor Keaton flushed with anger, "You’ll be kicked out of the Lockwood Family sooner or later!"
Hearing Eleanor’s prophetic words, Evelyn felt very insecure.
After all, Caden had already said that once she was healed, he’d let her leave!
"Scared now?" Eleanor snorted coldly, "Evelyn, you can’t beat me! Brother Caden will eventually realize that only I am the one suitable for him! And he’ll increasingly understand that his freshness for a woman like you is just a fleeting fancy, it won’t last a lifetime!"
The hand holding the tongs trembled slightly, as Evelyn looked at Caden, who had just come out of the restroom, her eyes filled with deep sadness.
Had he really exhausted his initial excitement for her?
Caden walked straight towards Evelyn, glanced at Eleanor, and threatened coldly, "Eleanor, stay away from my wife!"
He was concerned that Eleanor would make things difficult for Evelyn.
Eleanor flashed a brilliant smile at Caden, without a trace of arrogance typical of a young lady. Whatever he said, she followed.
Looking at such Eleanor, Evelyn’s lips awkwardly curled, feeling that her efforts for Caden seemed indeed too little.
Caden sat next to Evelyn, took the tongs from her hand, and softly asked, "Did she say something she shouldn’t have?"
"No!" Evelyn shook her head immediately.
She didn’t want to show any sadness in front of Caden.
From now on, she had to be like Eleanor, willing to let go of everything for Caden!
Thinking this, Evelyn raised her face and flashed a bright smile at Caden, "Have some meat! I’ve grilled it already!"
"Why don’t you ever listen?" Caden frowned, "It’s smoky here. If Eleanor is willing to grill, just let her do it."
"Her grilling doesn’t taste as good as mine." Evelyn said firmly.
She picked up a piece of meat, blew on it to cool it, tested the temperature by her lips, and once it wasn’t too hot, offered it to Caden with a blooming smile, "Try it!"
At that moment, Logan Shaw had just returned from swimming.
Seeing Evelyn and Caden interacting so affectionately, Logan paused, his eyes filled with deep sorrow.
Facing away from Logan, Evelyn couldn’t see him at all.
But, Caden did see him.
Caden really wanted to take the meat Evelyn grilled into his mouth and then show off to Logan.
But thinking about it, such childish behavior seemed inappropriate now.
All along, while handling his relationship with Evelyn, he had been very childish.
Which is why things turned out like this—making her live more and more painfully.
"You eat it yourself." Caden said in a low voice, "I’m going to take a shower."
With that, Caden turned and left.
Evelyn’s hand hovered in mid-air, looking at that meticulously grilled piece of meat, actually being... rejected?
Moisture welled up in her eyes, Evelyn blinked, hoping the wind would dry her tears.
Her nose felt sour, her breathing turned uneven at that instant, and the smile on her face had already been engulfed by sadness.
Logan strode forward, seeing Evelyn’s sad and painful expression, he sat next to her, hastily said, "Did he bully you again?"
Evelyn withdrew her hand, sending the meat into her own mouth, her heart full of gloom.
"No." Evelyn whispered, "He’s very good to me."
"Very good?" Logan frowned, "Evelyn, your eyes are all red!"
