"The smoke from the barbecue!" Evelyn randomly found an excuse.
She realized that she was getting better and better at making things up recently!
She even started believing the reasons she came up with herself.
"If he’s not good to you, why do you insist on sticking with him?" Logan asked angrily, "Evelyn, you can have a much better life, you..."
"For me, staying by his side is the best life." Evelyn interrupted Logan.
Meeting his gaze, she continued, "I know what I’m doing, so... you don’t have to worry about me."
"Evelyn..."
"I’ve muddled through so many years, I’ve never been as clear-headed as I am now!" Evelyn’s lips curled into a faint smile, "So... cheer for me!"
"Have you already made up your mind?" Logan’s face looked conflicted, "This life, it’s really... going to be him?"
Evelyn nodded, looking at the door to her and Caden’s bedroom. She smiled softly and said, "It’s going to be him! Even if I have to be chased away, I’ll work hard to stay."
Hearing Evelyn’s words, Logan felt a deep sadness in his heart.
He knew.
He had always known how important Caden was to Evelyn.
He just didn’t want to admit it!
Evelyn stood up, and although her words were firm, she still felt uneasy because Caden had rejected her barbecue.
She needed to go outside and breathe some fresh air.
Logan sat in place, looking at the barbecue Evelyn had made. He knew Evelyn had grilled it especially for Caden.
Caden had just rejected Evelyn’s barbecue, which made Logan feel even worse than if he had eaten it.
At this moment, Ashley sat beside Logan, unceremoniously picking up and eating the grilled meat.
"Why aren’t you guys eating this great stuff?" Ashley ate with relish, "What a waste!"
Logan looked at Ashley, and he actually envied her. It seemed as if she had no worries in her life.
"You’re really not going to eat?" Ashley asked with a smile, "After all, Evelyn grilled it! Don’t you want to try it?"
As she spoke, Ashley picked up a piece of meat and held it out to Logan.
Logan didn’t respond, stood up, and left Ashley sitting there alone.
Watching Logan’s back, Ashley shook her head and simply continued stuffing the meat into her mouth.
"So, it’s better not to get emotionally involved with people!" Ashley remarked with a faint smile, "Enjoying good food, admiring handsome guys, life is so delightful!"
She shrugged, but suddenly felt a bit of displeasure in her heart, not knowing where that feeling came from.
The night on the mountain was already a bit chilly.
Everyone gathered around to eat barbecue, with Eleanor sitting opposite Caden, constantly serving him meat.
Evelyn could only sit aside and watch blankly. Seeing Cecilia repeatedly give her meaningful looks, she felt awkward, not knowing how to give the meat she had grilled to Caden.
It was really... difficult!
Evelyn felt that trying to make peace with him was harder than getting a scholarship.
Instead, Caden seemed to be acting normally. Noticing that Evelyn hadn’t eaten much, he kept putting food into her bowl.
"What’s the matter?" Caden asked softly, "Are you not used to the food? Should I have Sean bring something else for you? What do you want to eat?"
"Huh?" Evelyn came to her senses, looked at Caden, and chuckled, "No, this is delicious!"
"Are you tired?" Caden continued to ask.
He rarely saw Evelyn lack energy while eating.
