Their old establishment had been attacked.

That was unquestionably bad news.

Yet the Eredar sisters showed remarkably little reaction.

Salorass slowly pulled her hoof away from the grinding wheel. Her servant immediately rubbed some fragrant oil between her hands and carefully massaged it into the polished hoof.

Salorass sighed.

"I hate being interrupted during hoof care. Especially when the interruption comes with bad news."

Oleses casually put away her divination crystal and asked, almost lazily, "Go on. What happened?"

"Boss, here’s the situation..."

The voice coming through the communicator was tense and frightened.

The Eredar sisters were very good at training their subordinates. Their people obeyed without hesitation, and nobody would dream of betraying them for a quick payday.

"The Void Remnant nightclub was raided early this morning. Nothing important was stolen, but the place was badly damaged, and several people were injured. It won’t be able to reopen for some time, and we’ll also have to deal with a police investigation."

"Hmph."

A trace of anger finally appeared in the sisters’ expressions.

They had moved out of the nightclub a long time ago, but they still had some attachment to the place. More importantly, it had been their first base of operations after arriving on this planet.

It had sentimental value.

Someone had just smashed it for no reason.

That was enough to irritate them.

Oleses forced down the anger rising in her chest and patiently asked, "Who did it?"

Whether they intended to retaliate, reclaim the territory, or pursue some other course of action, they first needed to know who they were dealing with.

They had learned that lesson during their time running operations for Kil’jaeden.

Back then, their establishments had been attacked all the time.

Especially on Tuesday nights.

So they had learned to ask questions before throwing fireballs.

"Was it twenty-five people wearing ridiculous costumes?"

"Something like that?"

"Who?"

"The Jamaican voodoo gang!"

"Oh..."

The sisters simultaneously exhaled in relief.

Then their eyes widened.

Oleses slammed her hand onto the table.

"That idiot Wilkie dared to attack us?"

Now that they knew who was responsible, there was no reason to be cautious.

Besides, the Eredar sisters had recently been planning to compete with Mephisto.

They were even preparing to secretly invest fifty million dollars into the nightclub, without Evenson’s knowledge, with the goal of turning it into the most dominant nightlife empire in New York.

They hadn’t even started their grand expansion yet.

And someone had already smashed the place.

"Where were the people guarding the club?"

Salorass suddenly remembered something.

The nightclub had always operated in a somewhat criminal gray area. Most of its security consisted of ordinary muscle, but some had received direct instruction from the Eredar sisters.

The best among them included Luther, the second-in-command, and the third-in-command, Fotei Seven.

With those two there, how had a bunch of Jamaican voodoo gangsters managed to break through so easily?

"My ladies..."

The voice on the communicator became even more cautious.

"Yesterday was the thirteenth."

The sisters went silent.

"The anniversary of your arrival. On this day every month, those selected for the Dark Sanctum are required to visit the Monastery of Eternal Night. They join the Sisters of Eternal Night for a social gathering..."

The speaker hesitated.

"...I mean, a prayer service."

Oleses gritted her teeth.

"A prayer service?"

She didn’t care whether it was a prayer service or a party.

Someone had abandoned their post.

Those people deserved punishment.

She was about to explode when Salorass quietly leaned toward her.

"Don’t say anything."

Oleses glanced at her.

"Why?"

"You personally approved this."

"Me?"

Oleses blinked.

"I did?"

Salorass gave her a teasing little smile.

"That night, you wanted to really enjoy yourself, so you inhaled three kilograms in one sitting."

She paused.

"You blacked out."

Salorass shook her head.

"Like that boy said, that stuff is poisonous even to demons."

Oleses sighed.

"Fine."

She let the matter go.

"Where is Luther?"

"Luther was seriously injured. He’s currently at the company."

"What?"

Salorass’s eyes narrowed.

"You’re telling me he came here directly?"

This incident would inevitably involve the police.

That made Luther’s presence extremely dangerous.

The nominal manager of the nightclub had been badly wounded. Instead of going to a hospital or hiding somewhere safe, he had apparently come straight to their company.

If anyone discovered him here, what would they assume?

That the company was a front for organized crime?

A shell corporation used to launder money?

Either possibility would be a massive headache.

The Eredar sisters hated headaches.

They hated subordinates who created headaches even more.

"No, my ladies!"

The voice on the communicator immediately became frantic.

"Luther didn’t come directly here. He contacted us first, then hid in a nearby junkyard. When one of our garbage trucks went through the area, we picked him up and brought him back inside. Nobody saw anything."

Salorass smiled faintly.

"At least he still has some sense."

She waved a hand.

"Bring him to us."

The sisters dismissed the servant and left the Final Doctrine.

If it was called the Final Doctrine, there was a reason.

The fewer people who knew what happened inside, the better.

They hadn’t gone far when two men appeared carrying Luther on a stretcher.

He looked like a corpse.

Then, the moment he saw the Eredar sisters, he suddenly rolled off the stretcher.

He landed hard, dropped to his knees, and crawled toward them.

"My ladies!"

His voice was filled with anguish.

"I failed in the duty you entrusted to me. I beg you to punish me!"

Luther looked absolutely wretched.

Bandages covered most of his body, and blood had soaked through nearly all of them.

His right arm had been severed completely at the shoulder, leaving only a heavily wrapped stump.

An injury like that should have killed him.

The only reason he was still alive was the training he’d received from the Eredar sisters.

"Our punishment..."

Oleses looked down at him without sympathy.

To the sisters, injuries of this severity were little more than flesh wounds.

"Can you withstand it?"

"Masters of Shadow and Flame, First Awakened!"

Luther planted his remaining hand against the floor and bowed deeply.

"My life is yours to destroy."

There was no deception in his voice.

This wasn’t some pathetic attempt to gain sympathy.

He genuinely blamed himself for failing his masters.

Worse, he was devastated by the thought that his failure might prevent him from continuing to serve such magnificent beings.

"Destroy you?"

Salorass lifted her chin and looked down at him.

"To us, destruction is freedom."

Her voice was cold.

"It hardly qualifies as punishment."

She smiled.

"We’re going to make you live."

Salorass exchanged a glance with her sister.

Oleses nodded.

The two sisters raised their hands simultaneously.

Shadow and fel energy erupted from their palms and poured into Luther’s broken body.

"Let Shadow and Flame remake your body."

Power surged through him.

"You will remain alive until you’ve given us every last drop of your blood."

The sisters’ voices echoed together.

"That is your punishment."
