Channeling a massive external force directly into someone’s body to create a vastly more powerful individual was hardly unheard of in the power systems of Azeroth.

The Grand Magisters of certain arcane orders had done it. Powerful champions of nature had done it. But the organization most famous for the practice was undoubtedly the Council of Tirisfal.

By combining the magical power of several powerful mages and pouring it into a single vessel, they had created one of the most powerful beings in Azeroth: the Guardian of Tirisfal.

Yet if anyone had truly turned this technique into standard operating procedure, it was the Burning Legion.

Many of the Legion’s most terrifying demons hadn’t grown powerful through years of disciplined training. Their strength had come through theft, consumption, and being force-fed power by demons even stronger than themselves.

Of course, widespread use didn’t mean the Burning Legion cared whether the process was pleasant.

"AAAAAAAGH!"

Luther’s scream tore through the room as shadow and fel flame rebuilt his body.

He couldn’t move. The twin Eredar had already taken complete control of his body, leaving him helpless as their power tore through flesh, bone, and blood.

If he had been able to move, he would have been rolling across the floor by now.

Even powerful Eredar demons sometimes entered a dormant state before undergoing such extreme physical transformations.

Luther, by contrast, was an ordinary human being undergoing the procedure fully conscious.

The pain was beyond imagination.

Fortunately, the ones performing the infusion were the Eredar twins. They knew exactly how to force a body to evolve without killing its owner in the process.

If Evenson had attempted the same thing, one soul certainly wouldn’t have been enough to pay the price.

Three minutes later, the violent transformation finally ended.

Luther’s body had changed dramatically.

Every injury had vanished. His severed right arm had grown back completely. The roughly six-foot-tall man who had once possessed an ordinary human physique now stood nearly seven feet tall, his body swollen with dense, powerful muscle.

The man’s physique had reached the point where even Dwayne Johnson might have felt slightly inadequate.

Saloralis took a slow breath, recovering from the exertion of channeling so much power.

"Well?" she asked darkly. "How did you enjoy it? Will you remember that pain?"

"Of course!"

Luther slammed his newly regenerated right fist into the concrete floor.

BOOM!

The concrete cratered beneath his knuckles, cracks racing outward in every direction.

"Without pain, how can one continue to evolve?"

He stared at his right hand, then clenched it.

Power surged through his body like a raging storm.

"This strength..." His voice trembled with exhilaration. "This strength is beyond anything I could have imagined!"

He threw his head back and shouted, "Long live the Eredar twins!"

"Shut up!"

Aurellesis pointed sharply at him.

Luther froze.

That was the problem with blindly copying human flattery.

Telling an ordinary ruler "Long live the king!" might be a blessing.

Telling the Eredar twins "Long live you!" was dangerously close to wishing they would hurry up and die.

Or, more accurately, implying that they were supposed to be dead already.

Luther looked completely bewildered by the reprimand.

Fortunately, the twins had no intention of wasting time over a slip of the tongue.

Aurellesis glanced at him.

"Tell us how you ended up looking like that in the first place. Don’t tell me you couldn’t handle a bunch of Voodoo gang thugs."

Before his transformation, Luther had still been physically human. But the twins had personally trained him, pushing his abilities to the absolute peak of what an ordinary human body could achieve.

And yet he’d returned from the Voodoo gang’s attack in an utterly miserable state.

They wanted an explanation.

"Revenants," Luther said bitterly.

Aurellesis raised an eyebrow.

"Revenants?"

"Some of the attackers were Voodoo revenants."

Aurellesis stared at him for a moment.

Then she grabbed Luther by the head and slammed him into the floor.

THUD!

"You’re telling me you couldn’t handle revenants?"

The impact would have turned an ordinary man’s skull into paste. Luther’s newly reinforced body survived it.

Aurellesis’s anger wasn’t entirely unreasonable.

What was a revenant compared to the monsters of the Burning Legion’s forces? The Scourge had plenty of disposable undead that were far more dangerous.

One of her own trained followers had been defeated by something that pathetic.

It was embarrassing.

"If they had only been revenants, I would never have lost!" Luther hurriedly climbed back to his knees, his expression filled with frustration. "But King Willie had explosives planted inside their bodies. We were caught completely off guard."

He raised his regenerated right arm.

"This arm was blown off while I was restraining one of them."

"That tactic..." Saloralis considered it for a moment.

"Pretty crude."

Compared with the Scourge, stuffing a grenade inside a corpse was hardly revolutionary.

She had seen mindless undead grapple enemies while a Death Knight stood behind them and detonated the entire pile with Corpse Explosion.

Still, Luther had never encountered anything like it before.

She waved dismissively.

"You can leave. Learn to control your new strength. I don’t want to see you crawling back here in defeat again."

"Yes, my lady."

Luther gritted his teeth.

He would remember the pain.

He bowed deeply and withdrew.

The Eredar twins continued deeper into the base until they reached a room packed with scientific equipment.

Aurellesis stopped at the entrance, took a deep breath, and shouted:

"Gnoss!"

"I’m here!"

The reply came almost instantly, accompanied by frantic footsteps.

A thin, elderly man in a white lab coat came sprinting toward them.

Then he performed a spectacular aerial maneuver, spinning through the air three thousand six hundred degrees before landing three meters in front of the twins in a textbook crouch.

His head remained firmly lowered.

The assistants who had followed him into the room stared in disbelief.

Adrian and the Benjamin couple looked as though their eyeballs were about to fall out.

Sir, have you no dignity?

You’re a genuine scientist! A world-class researcher!

You’re not some two-bit fraud who makes a living talking nonsense! Could you please retain at least a shred of professional composure?

Aurellesis seemed completely accustomed to Gnoss behaving this way.

"Gnoss..."

"My lady!"

"I was just about to tell you that our old nightclub was attacked—"

"You don’t need to say another word!"

Gnoss suddenly swept one hand through the air.

His eyes glittered.

From absolutely nowhere, he produced a metal sphere and held it out with both hands like a proud child presenting his latest invention.

"Fel-concentrated bomb!"

He raised the sphere dramatically.

"One blast, and the dead will scream!"

"Two blasts, and the heavens themselves will vanish!"

"Three blasts, and all your troubles disappear forever!"

He lifted the bomb beside his face, covering half of it while grinning triumphantly.

"Fel bomb! The power is absolutely fantastic!"

He gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

"Oh yeah!"
