After leaving the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion, Lin Xuan led Liu Yue’Er back toward the Inner Hall of Qingcheng Mansion. They had been out long enough. With the end of the month drawing near, the challenge match was fast approaching. He wanted to return and see what impact Wan Ning’s death would have.
If the eleventh-ranked cultivator advanced into the tenth spot, he would challenge them without hesitation. He didn’t know who was ranked eleventh, but they certainly couldn’t be as formidable as Wan Ning. At his current level, he was confident he could defeat them.
That way, he could break into the top ten far ahead of schedule, and the second standard reward would be his. The first reward had been so tempting... ’I wonder what the reward for completing the second standard early will be?’
"Yue’Er, we need to go somewhere," Lin Xuan cautioned. "Whatever you see in a bit, you can’t tell anyone else, understand?"
Liu Yue’Er didn’t know what he meant, but she nodded anyway. "Yue’Er listens to whatever Daddy says!" She blinked her innocent eyes and licked her lips. "Daddy, can we eat those vegetables now?"
Lin Xuan couldn’t help but laugh. The entire way, she had been completely fixated on the Spirit Medicine he’d bought.
"Don’t worry, you can eat them all on the way!" Lin Xuan retrieved the Phoenix Statue from his Storage Space and tossed it forward. A gigantic Phoenix materialized before their eyes.
Liu Yue’Er was stunned. "What a beautiful big birdie," she said in a daze. "Can Yue’Er sit on it?"
"Of course. Let’s go." Lin Xuan picked her up and got on. The road to Qingcheng Mansion was long, so it was only natural to travel by Phoenix. He had wasted a lot of time taking a carriage before, but that had been unavoidable.
He didn’t mind Liu Yue’Er knowing. ’In my heart, I already treat her like my own daughter, so it’s nothing for her to find out.’
After they were settled on its back, he took out the Spirit Medicine and handed them to Liu Yue’Er one by one. Liu Yue’Er showed no hesitation, stuffing them into her mouth one after another and repeatedly exclaiming how delicious they were.
The sight made Lin Xuan gulp. ’Only Yue’Er could eat like this. I would never dare.’ He could only stick to consuming Elixir Pills. While those had trace amounts of pill toxins, these raw Spirit Medicines were far too potent and could easily cause problems. Eating a little was one thing, but if too much was consumed, the toxins would accumulate in the body. A sudden, simultaneous release would be fatal.
Spirit Fruits were one thing, but these were Spirit Medicines. ’Frankly, they’re just herbs. To me, they have no flavor to speak of. Clearly, the taste buds of the Dragon Race are different from humans. Just look at the way she’s eating—it’s like she’s eating candy.’
Before they were even halfway there, she had finished all the Spirit Medicine he had spent over sixty thousand Primordial Stones on! After letting out a small burp, she said with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Daddy, Yue’Er is still hungry..."
Lin Xuan was at a loss for words. ’But then again, it makes sense,’ he thought. ’A dozen or so types of Spirit Medicine might sound expensive, but when you put them all together, it’s barely a small side dish of greens. It has to be the most expensive vegetarian meal ever, and it’s not even filling.’
At least the effects seemed noticeable. Liu Yue’Er’s cheeks had become even rosier, as if she’d been drinking wine. They looked adorably flushed.
"Uhm... let’s see what we can do when we get back," Lin Xuan said, wiping away a bead of cold sweat. ’My current fortune really isn’t much. It’s not even enough to feed Yue’Er.’
"Oh! Daddy, there’s a fragrance coming from over there!" Liu Yue’Er pointed north, saying excitedly, "It smells so good over there! It’s the best smell I’ve ever smelled!"
"Over there?" Without a second thought, Lin Xuan steered the Phoenix in that direction. He’d heard that Liu Yue’Er could sense Spirit Medicine, and now it seemed she might have actually found something.
After flying at top speed, they arrived at the location Liu Yue’Er had indicated in just a few moments. After a brief search, they finally found what she had sensed tucked away in a corner—a Third Grade Spirit Fruit, the Blood Jade Fruit!
There were four of them. Each fruit was perfectly plump and a vibrant red, looking as if it might drip blood at any moment. From a distance, one could even see liquid swirling within, as if blood were flowing inside. It was a beautiful, yet unearthly sight.
"It’s a Blood Jade Fruit!" Having absorbed the memories of so many powerful experts, Lin Xuan knew a great deal about Spirit Medicine and recognized it at a single glance.
His eyes filled with shock. They were in a remote crevice between two mountains. If Yue’Er hadn’t pointed the way, he never would have found this Blood Jade Fruit. In terms of value, a single one of these fruits was worth far more than the entire pile of Spirit Medicine she had just eaten!
Although they were both Third Grade, their value was completely different; they were in a league of their own. And this time, it wasn’t just something Liu Yue’Er could eat—he could consume it as well.
The Blood Jade Fruit was expensive primarily because it could replenish a large amount of one’s blood-qi, which was immensely helpful for strengthening one’s Physique. An increase in blood-qi could improve the circulation speed of one’s energy, thus accelerating Cultivation.
To put it simply, with a Blood Jade Fruit in his possession, he could consume one on the Eighth Layer of the Cyan Cloud Tower and last for a very long time without needing Soul Possession. By greatly increasing his energy circulation speed, the conversion of Elemental Power would become much faster, thus boosting his efficiency.
"It looks so yummy!" Liu Yue’Er’s eyes lit up.
Lin Xuan carried her down from the Phoenix. The moment they landed, he felt a dangerous aura from nearby. A chill ran down his spine as the White Pupil Rod instantly appeared in his hand. His sharp gaze swept across the area and landed on a Cyan-Scaled Python coiled to the side!
"A Cyan-Scaled Python? We really are fated to meet, it seems." Lin Xuan narrowed his eyes. He hadn’t expected to run into another Cyan-Scaled Python, and this one’s Cultivation had even reached the Seventh Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage. This was a bit troublesome.
The hide of a Cyan-Scaled Python was incredibly tough; he had to be cautious. He wasn’t surprised to find one here. Wherever precious Spirit Medicine grew, a Demon Beast was bound to be guarding it. Fortunately, this one was relatively weak and still within a manageable range.
’Of course, I still have the statue,’ he thought. ’This is nothing to me.’
However, just as he was about to attack, he noticed the Cyan-Scaled Python was trembling uncontrollably and didn’t dare to approach.
’It’s scared?’ Lin Xuan froze. When he took a step forward, the Cyan-Scaled Python actually backed away, not daring to attack in the slightest!
’Don’t tell me it’s afraid of Yue’Er!’ A jolt went through Lin Xuan’s mind. Snake-type Demon Beasts possessed a trace of Dragon Blood. When faced with Liu Yue’Er and her pure Dragon Blood, they were subjected to a fundamental suppression of rank!
"Daddy, that snake looks like fun!" Liu Yue’Er scrambled down from his arms, lunged forward, and shouted, "RAWR!" She was imitating a tiger’s roar, and the Cyan-Scaled Python was so terrified that it turned and fled without a second glance, let alone trying to attack them.
Witnessing this, Lin Xuan was left speechless. So this was bloodline suppression. He had truly seen it for himself this time. Not only had he witnessed the pressure of a superior bloodline, but he’d also seen just how sensitive Yue’Er’s nose was. ’She’s practically a Spirit Medicine detector!’
’Good heavens, this daughter of mine is really something else. As her dad, I’m certainly reaping the benefits...’ Lin Xuan rubbed his nose. If Yue’Er were just a little older, he could let her go for a stroll, and she would come back with a whole pile of Spirit Medicine.
At that point, it wouldn’t be him providing for Liu Yue’Er, but Liu Yue’Er providing for him!
