Soul Emperor Awakening

Chapter 63 - 62: Domineering

Entering Vast Origin City, there was no tedious inspection. A Guard just glanced at him and let him pass. As long as you weren’t a wanted criminal, you were allowed into the city.

As a bustling city, people were entering at all times, so checking everyone would take too much time. Generally, only carriages would be checked for their contents; people on foot were rarely inspected.

After asking for directions to the Liu Family’s residence, he headed there. As for becoming a Pattern Master and the like, he could only set that aside for now. He was eager to make money, but since he hadn’t learned the skill yet, he had no way to earn it.

The only other options were to hunt Demon Beasts in the forest or gather precious medicinal herbs. These were relatively fast ways to get Primordial Stones. For example, a giant bear’s hide could be sold to a shop, but the price was pitifully low.

To be precise, it wasn’t that the price was too low in general. It was just that for a Cultivator, who dealt with Elixir Pills that cost hundreds or even thousands of Primordial Stones, the amount from a giant bear was pathetically small. For an ordinary family, however, it would be a decent income—enough to put food on the table, at least.

Therefore, Lin Xuan had no intention of hunting Demon Beasts. Unless it was a particularly special one, they weren’t worth much. Time was short, so he had to act quickly. If he simply went hunting, he might only earn enough for a few Elixir Pills after several months. It was a waste of time, and dangerous besides.

"Get out of the way! All of you, get out of my way!" Another angry roar came from a distance.

Lin Xuan turned his head and saw three people on horseback charging toward him. Pedestrians scrambled to the sides, terrified of being knocked flying by the horses.

’Is Vast Origin City always this chaotic?’

Lin Xuan frowned. First, it was the Divine Rune Sect, and now it was these hooligans, acting so arrogantly. Their Cultivation didn’t seem particularly high, but their fair skin suggested they were young masters from some prominent family. They were plowing recklessly through the bustling street on horseback, completely disregarding everyone around them.

"Waaah, Mommy, WAAAH..." Suddenly, a little girl who was trying to get out of the way fell to the ground. Perhaps she’d hurt herself, because she lay there crying loudly. Seeing the horses charging at her, her little face went pale, and she was too terrified to move.

"Anyone in my way dies!" The young man didn’t hesitate, urging his horse to trample the child. His face was a vicious snarl, showing no concern for the life beneath him.

The faces of the people around them turned white. They wanted to help but didn’t dare to intervene, not only because they feared the rider’s identity, but also because they lacked the strength to stop him.

Most of the onlookers turned away, unable to watch the gruesome scene. Being trampled by such a powerful horse... even if she survived, she would likely be bedridden for the rest of her life.

THUD!

It was a muffled sound, the kind made when a hoof strikes a body. A moment later, the crowd didn’t hear a child’s scream. Instead, they heard the young rider’s terrified shout, "You—who are you?!"

The crowd turned to look and saw a young man gripping the descending hoof with one hand, stopping it from moving even an inch! The tall warhorse alone must have weighed at least a thousand catties, yet this youth was holding it up effortlessly.

The scene left the onlookers completely dumbfounded. Where did this boy with god-like strength suddenly come from?

There was no need to guess who it was—it was Lin Xuan, who had stepped in to stop the tragedy.

He couldn’t stand by and watch such a cruel act. No matter what this person’s background was, he had to intervene. ’If the world were full of people like this, then it would be truly doomed.’

"Who I am... is that important?"

A cold light flashed in Lin Xuan’s eyes, and killing intent surged from him. The frightened warhorse thrashed its body, trying to wrench its hoof free from his grasp, but it couldn’t break away. It could only let out a terrified whinny.

"Get lost!"

Lin Xuan released his grip and drove a heavy fist into the warhorse’s chest. With a loud THUD, the nearly thousand-catty beast let out a pained cry and was sent flying backward by the force of the single punch.

The young man on the horse was thrown off, landing face-first in the dirt and nearly chipping a tooth. The two men behind him hastily reined in their horses, dismounted, and rushed to help him up. "Young Master Fang, are you alright?"

Lin Xuan didn’t even glance at them. He crouched down, picked up the little girl, and said with a gentle smile, "It’s okay now. Go back to your mother."

The terrified little girl nodded. Without a word of thanks, she turned and ran to the side of the road. She was so frightened by what had just happened that she couldn’t even speak.

"Son, you should run! He’s the Fang Family’s eldest young master! If you don’t go now, you’ll be in big trouble!"

"That’s right, hurry up and run! The Fang Family controls half the power in Vast Origin City! If you don’t go, you won’t get another chance!"

...

The people in the crowd all urged Lin Xuan to flee. They were just ordinary folk who couldn’t have stopped a powerful warhorse themselves; the least they could do was warn him to run.

"The Fang Family’s eldest young master, Fang Qingyu?" Lin Xuan’s expression grew even colder. ’No wonder he’s so arrogant. So he’s the young master of the Fang Family.’

Now he had managed to provoke two families: the Huang Family and the Fang Family. Coincidentally, both were enemies of the Lin Family. ’Looks like I stopped the right person after all!’ Since he was from the Fang Family, Lin Xuan had even less reason to be afraid. But it didn’t matter if he was from the Fang Family; even if a disciple of the Divine Rune Sect had done the same, Lin Xuan would have stopped them.

Fang Qingyu stood up, clutching his back. The fall hadn’t been light, but it hadn’t caused him any serious problems. As a Cultivator, his body could withstand such an impact. The real damage was to his pride.

"Do you have any idea who I am?!" Fang Qingyu stormed over.

His two guards looked equally furious. If Fang Qingyu was injured, they would be held responsible. They both stepped forward and glared at Lin Xuan. "Do you realize you’ve interfered with Young Master Fang’s important business?! I don’t care who you are, get over here and kneel for him right now! Otherwise, we’ll make sure there isn’t a whole corpse left of you!"

The two guards were both at the Fifth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage. This was not a low level of Cultivation. Using them as guards wasn’t a waste of talent; their aptitude was simply average. If they ever managed to break through to the Essence Pill Stage, it would be a miracle on par with smoke rising from their ancestral graves.

Fang Qingyu’s own Cultivation was decent as well, having reached the Second Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage. Born into the Fang Family, he had grown up with a silver spoon in his mouth, so he naturally had no shortage of resources. Reaching the Second Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage at his age was not particularly unusual.

"Kneel?" Lin Xuan sneered. "And what if I say no?"

"If you refuse, then we’ll make you kneel ourselves!" one of the guards snarled.

"Why are you wasting so much time talking to him? Cripple him and throw him in front of me!" Fang Qingyu said, furious.

"Cripple me? Come and try it, if you have the guts!" Lin Xuan clenched his fists. He really wanted to clean up this scum and deliver justice on behalf of the heavens.
