A cold glint appeared in Lin Xuan’s eyes. He showed no fear of the two guards, simply standing his ground. He wasn’t even holding a weapon as he coldly watched them approach.
The surrounding onlookers sighed, all thinking the young man before them had backbone. But how could one person fight two? And more importantly, what if he won? He would be going up against the entire Fang Family. How could a single person possibly resist them?
The Fang Family could act so arrogantly because their power was immense. Their standing in Vast Origin City was comparable to the Divine Rune Sect’s status among the many Cultivators. As a result, they were used to being arrogant and domineering, looking down on everyone.
"Number Two, you go grab him. I think there’s something strange about him!" the lead guard said, feeling a bit suspicious at Lin Xuan’s fearless expression.
"Who cares who he is? Can’t you see Young Master Fang is displeased? In Vast Origin City, the Fang Family calls the shots!"
The second guard sneered and lunged forward. To the onlookers, he was just a blur before he appeared in front of Lin Xuan. His palm morphed into a claw as he swiped, the sharp gust of wind from his attack strong enough to easily tear through skin.
Seeing that Lin Xuan didn’t even try to dodge, he assumed the boy was scared stiff. A cold smirk touched his lips as he clawed down viciously, eager to earn some credit.
PAK!
Just as the guard’s claw was about to land, he found his own wrist seized by a hand that was even faster than his. It held him in a vise grip, rendering him completely immobile.
"Your strength isn’t bad, but you haven’t mastered it. Go back and restart your Cultivation!"
Lin Xuan snorted. Before the guard’s terrified eyes, he gave a sharp twist. SNAP! The guard’s wrist was broken. The man howled in pain, but before he could even struggle, Lin Xuan grabbed his arm and flung him away as easily as tossing a chick.
The lead guard’s expression changed. He quickly moved to intercept his companion, catching him. The heavy force slammed into him, forcing him to slide back several steps before he could barely absorb the astonishing momentum.
’It looked like a casual toss, but the power it carried was staggering. Someone with low Cultivation could never pull that off!’
’Looks like we’ve hit a steel plate this time...’ The lead guard’s face was ashen. His partner’s Cultivation wasn’t high, but he was at least at the Fourth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage, yet he had been so easily defeated by the young man before them.
’Underestimating him was a big part of it, but the power that erupted from him made my heart pound with fear. Could he be a disciple from a Major Sect?’
"My hand... it’s crippled!" the second guard gasped, clutching his wrist. His forehead was beaded with cold sweat, and the intense pain filled him with rage.
"Useless! You’re all useless! Can’t even catch one person, you damn rice buckets! What are you waiting for? Get your asses over there and fucking grab him for me!" Fang Qingyu roared when he saw his guard thrown back. So many people were watching; it was a complete humiliation. If he couldn’t regain his prestige here, how could he ever show his face again?
The lead guard frowned. ’Our young master is just too used to being arrogant. This kid is obviously not some simple character. If we don’t find out who he is, causing a problem could be extremely troublesome.’
"What sect are you from?" the lead guard asked.
"Is that important?" Lin Xuan sneered. ’So now you ask where I’m from. Why not before? It seems showing a bit of strength is the only way to earn a moment’s hesitation.’
"What’s with all the damn talk? Just hurry up and grab him! If anything happens, I’ll take full responsibility!" Fang Qingyu was about to go mad with rage.
"But, Young Master..." The lead guard started to offer a word of caution but was cut off by Fang Qingyu’s furious glare.
"If you won’t go, I will!" Fang Qingyu retrieved a longsword from his Storage Pouch. Blinded by rage, he didn’t care who his opponent was; he had to get his dignity back first. This was especially true for someone as accustomed to arrogance as him—he never cared who he was up against!
"No, no! Fine, Young Master Fang, let me handle it!" The lead guard stepped forward reluctantly. With a grim expression, he said to Lin Xuan, "I don’t know who you are, but if you don’t give us an explanation for this, I’m afraid you won’t be leaving here today."
"An explanation? You charged through here recklessly and nearly trampled someone to death, and you’re demanding an explanation from me? A person can be heartless, but not this cold-blooded!" Lin Xuan snorted, his anger flaring.
The guard showed no anger, much less guilt. ’There are so many people in the world. To them, those who can’t practice Cultivation are worthless. What’s the use of keeping them around? If they die, they die. It’s no loss to us whatsoever.’
"Say whatever you want, you’re not getting away this time!" The lead guard’s aura surged. The Cultivation of the Fifth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage erupted from him, and the powerful pressure forced the surrounding commoners to back away. Some were almost forced to their knees by his aura.
"We’ll see about that if you have the ability to stop me!" Lin Xuan still hadn’t drawn a weapon. ’To deal with this scum, I don’t need any weapon.’
THUMP!
The lead guard stomped on the ground and lunged forward, swiping with his claw. The ferocity of his attack was far greater than the second guard’s; he was clearly using his full strength.
Just as his claw was about to connect with Lin Xuan, he saw the young man flash a wicked smile.
"Cyan Cloud Step!"
Just as the claw was about to seize him, Lin Xuan shifted his feet slightly and vanished from the guard’s sight.
"Where’d he go!?" The guard was utterly shocked; he found he could no longer sense Lin Xuan’s aura.
"Who are you looking for?"
The guard whipped his head around, only to feel a heavy force slam into his chest. A wave of pain shot through him, and before he could even react, a powerful palm strike sent him flying. He crashed to the ground, rolled twice, and then lay motionless, unconscious.
An instant takedown! Another effortless takedown.
The crowd was left dumbfounded by this scene. It was a completely one-sided beatdown. It all happened so fast that before anyone could even figure out what was going on, both guards were lying on the ground.
"Young Master Fang, now it’s your turn. Anyone else coming to get me...?"
Lin Xuan walked over with a cold smile. He didn’t release any aura, yet his gaze alone was enough to force Fang Qingyu back several steps.
"I- I’ll fight you!"
Fang Qingyu roared and charged forward with his sword, bringing it down hard on Lin Xuan.
DING!
Lin Xuan extended two fingers and effortlessly caught the longsword between them. No matter how much Fang Qingyu struggled, he couldn’t move the blade an inch. The sight scared Fang Qingyu out of his wits. Even an idiot could see the enormous gap in their power.
He hastily let go of the hilt, turned, and fled, abandoning his sword.
"My dear Young Master Fang, where do you think you’re going?"
Lin Xuan grabbed Fang Qingyu’s shoulder and yanked him back, meeting his terrified gaze.
"I- I’m the eldest young master of the Fang Family! What do you think you’re doing!" Fang Qingyu once again tried to use his family’s influence to pressure Lin Xuan.
Little did he know, that was the one thing that had absolutely no effect on Lin Xuan.
SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!
Lin Xuan slapped him hard across the face several times. The crisp sounds echoed down the street. After the series of slaps, Fang Qingyu’s face was red and swollen, a few of his teeth had been knocked out, and his mouth was full of blood.
"Now get lost!" Lin Xuan threw Fang Qingyu, sending him crashing onto the guard with the crippled hand.
He didn’t kill Fang Qingyu. ’Killing him would be a huge pain. With my current strength, it would lead to some serious trouble.’
’Still, even though I didn’t kill him, I’ve provoked the Fang Family now. But compared to outright killing Fang Qingyu, at least this won’t make the Fang Family mobilize everything they have to hunt me down. Once I reveal my identity, even the Fang Family will have to give me some face. If I had killed him, they would have shown me no mercy.’
Lin Xuan hadn’t lost his head. ’A lesson is sufficient. As for annihilating them, I don’t have that kind of power right now.’
