"Damn it!" Sky hissed as he materialized, completely exposed and shivering from the unnatural chill.

The icy terrain had compromised his exit strategy, leaving his heavy boots skidding uselessly against the frozen cobblestones. Every ounce of his calculated momentum evaporated into the sub-zero air. Before he could recover his balance or find a reliable center of gravity, a giant Ice Bug leaped directly from the frosted ceiling above. Its massive, translucent crystalline shell glowed with a volatile, bright white brilliance as it prepared to detonate a localized blizzard right on top of him. The air around the creature crackled with lethal frost, threatening to freeze his blood solid and end his run before it truly began.

"Skies, drop!" Vesper’s voice echoed powerfully through the cavern.

Sky didn’t hesitate. Trusting her instinct over his own sight, he threw his entire weight backward into a hard, desperate slide across the slick ice. He flattened his body against the frozen floor, feeling the freezing bite through his cloak. A split second later, a brilliant beam of white-hot kinetic light pierced the damp air directly above his chest, illuminating the dark corners of the cavern. Vesper had lunged forward and swung her heavy silver broadsword with terrifying momentum, unleashing a concentrated, flying crescent of holy energy. The radiant arc sliced the giant Ice Bug clean in half before its internal freezing matrix could detonate.

The blast wave of her high-tier attack radiated an intense, localized heat that filled the immediate area with a brief, blinding flash. The thermal energy washed over the immediate area, instantly melting the thick layers of ice beneath Sky and dissolving the frostbite status effect in a hiss of boiling water. The leaden weight vanished from his limbs, fully restoring his maximum movement speed and clearing his vision of the blue frost alerts.

"Keep moving," Vesper commanded, her voice a calm, unwavering anchor amidst the mechanical whirring and grinding gears.

Without breaking her stride, her blade snapped upward with mechanical precision to parry a massive, spinning iron drill from a second mining robot. The screech of metal on metal was deafening. She didn’t flinch as bright orange metal sparks flew directly into her pale face, reflecting in her unblinking eyes. With a fluid, practiced twist of her hips, she channeled her holy energy inward, her sword flaring with a blinding intensity that illuminated every crevice of the frozen room.

"I will break their vanguard," she stated flatly, driving the machine back with an explosive shield bash from her pommel that cracked its iron chassis. "Clean up the remnants."

"Skies, use the environment!" Chloe’s voice barked suddenly in his ear, her holographic communication link crackling with real-time data overlays. The blue light from her projection cast a frantic glow over the battle scene. "The jagged red crystals on the supporting pillars aren’t decorative—they are explosive volcanic shards embedded deep in the ice matrix by the system inversion. Hit them from a safe distance!"

Sky’s eyes locked onto a vibrant cluster of glowing red rocks jutting out of a nearby ice pillar. The crystal cluster pulsed like a dying star, completely out of place in this frozen wasteland. He didn’t possess a proper ranged weapon yet, his blueprint fragment still incomplete and locked behind high-tier boss drops, but his brutal survival training allowed for quick, improvised tactics on the fly. In a death game, anything could become a weapon if you threw it hard enough.

He spotted a discarded, heavy iron drill bit resting on the cracked stone near his left boot. It was heavy, jagged, and perfect for the job. Moving with the accelerated grace of his restored stats, he kicked the metal piece off the floor with a snapping martial strike, launching the improvised projectile like a high-velocity missile straight toward the volatile red crystals.

BOOM!

A massive, deafening explosion of localized fire and shattered volcanic rock erupted violently into the chamber. The shockwave rattled Sky’s teeth and sent a hail of burning shrapnel across the cavern. The sudden release of thermal energy instantly consumed two adjacent mining robots, tearing through their thick iron plating and melting their internal circuitry into a useless soup of copper and steel. The intense heat clashing with the frozen environment created a thick, blinding wall of white steam that completely enveloped the remaining mechanical enemies, disrupting their optical sensory receptors and sending them into a blind frenzy.

Using the dense smoke and steam as perfect tactical cover, Sky felt the familiar icy surge in his core as his [Dark Blade] cooldown finally expired. The energy pool in his chest refilled with a dark, pulsing warmth. He didn’t waste a single millisecond of the opening. He plunged back into the dark, dissolving into a formless streak of midnight shadow that cut seamlessly through the vapor like a hot knife through butter.

Moving with lethal efficiency, he executed a flawless triple-chain kill through the blinded enemies. His movements were a blur of shadow and steel. His Blood Blade left trailing crimson lines in the fog as it severed pneumatic lines, shattered glowing power cores, and dismantled the remaining ice beetles in rapid succession. The mechanical constructs fell apart piece by piece, unable to track his incorporeal form in the mist. The system logged the kills in a frantic blur of blue text floating at the edge of his vision, refilling his energy reservoir to its absolute limit with every successful strike.

When the room finally fell dead silent, the heavy steam began to drift toward the high ceiling, revealing a floor littered with pixelating mechanical debris and dissolving crystal shells. Sky stood in the center of the carnage, breathing heavily, his hands shaking slightly from the combination of extreme sub-zero cold and the fading rush of pure combat adrenaline. He checked his interface; his armor had stabilized, the integrity bars flashing a reassuring green, and his health remained entirely intact.

"Good work, team," Chloe’s voice praised over the comms, her holographic avatar flickering with a sense of urgent relief as she adjusted her headset back at the hub. "But do not get comfortable out there. My advanced scanners are currently picking up a massive, anomalous energy spike two floors down. The primary Floor Gatekeeper is waking up significantly earlier than the historical logs predicted."

She paused, a warning klaxon sounding softly in the background of her transmission from the Living Room hub. The high-pitched wail of the alarm cut through the static, sending a chill down Sky’s spine that had nothing to do with the environment.

"The inversion is accelerating. The code is corrupting faster than I can patch it from here. You need to clear Floor 1-3 and Floor 1-4 immediately, or you’ll be permanently trapped in a collapsing digital sector when the gatekeeper seals the floor. The system won’t let you exit back to the safe zone if that happens. If you’re still inside when the sector collapses, your data gets wiped permanently."

Vesper sheared her gleaming silver blade back into its protective wooden casing with a sharp, resounding click that echoed off the melting walls. Her cool gray eyes stared deep into the frosty, dark abyss of the open archway ahead, completely unfazed by the threat of a collapsing dungeon or the permanent death looming over them.

"Then we don’t waste another breath on words," Vesper said, her white cloak billowing slightly as she turned toward the progression path. "Let’s move."

Sky wiped a layer of melted frost from his crimson scarf, tightened his grip on the hilt of his Blood Blade, and followed her deeper into the freezing unknown. The path ahead looked steeper, the blue ice turning into a darker, more oppressive shade of slate, signaling that Floor 1-3 was going to test their limits like never before. The shadows ahead seemed to stretch and twist, waiting to swallow them whole.
