“One of the artists you support, namely Sammy Joe, is spreading rumours about the incident that took place at the Alamo Grand Hotel,” Joanne replied.
“Ah, I see,” David Morose said, smiling. “If this is about us covering the whole situation up, I’m sure you can understand why we did that.”
“Oh, of course, we completely understand,” Joanne replied diplomatically. “But that’s not really the issue.”
“Then what is?” David asked with slight annoyance as he glanced at his watch.
“The issue lies in the fact that Sammy Joe is spreading rumours about how everything that took place at the Alamo Gran Hotel is, in fact, Adam Spencer’s fault,” Joanne explained.
“What!” David said in surprise.
“Indeed, I’m sure I don't have to warn you about the consequences of falsely accusing Adam Spencer of something, right?” Joanne asked innocently.
“No, you don’t,” David growled as he shot Sammy Joe a glare, confusing the latter.
“Then I hope you can clean this mess up before he hears about it,” Joanne said sweetly.
“I thank you for bringing this to my attention, Miss McClain,” David replied, and as he was about to depart, Joanne politely coughed and said.
“I believe we had an agreement, Mr Morose.”
“My apologies, Miss McClain, but I really should go speak with Sammy Joe about this,” David replied before hurrying off.
“Damn bastard went back on his word,” Billie cursed as the four of them watched David leave.
“Keep your voice down,” Jeanie warned in a hiss.
“It was to be expected, really,” Joanne replied. “I would have been more surprised if he had kept his word.”
“You knew this would happen?” Billie asked.
“I knew it was a possibility; after all, the last thing any of the five families wants is to make Adam Spencer an enemy,” Joanne explained. “So his priority right now is to clean up this mess before he learns of it.”
“Then why didn’t you get the information you wanted first?” Billie asked.
“I could have done that.” Joanne shrugged. “But my priority was getting Sammy Joe out of the picture before he tried something with Millie.”
Millie gave Joanne a grateful look and was about to say something when a woman’s voice said, “My, what an entertaining show.”
As the four turned to see who spoke, the three members of Triple Trouble all showed looks of surprise, while Joanne asked, “And you are?”
“Jo, that’s Kate Stevens, the CEO of Galaxy Studios,” Millie hissed.
“It seems my reputation precedes me, but yes, you're correct; I am indeed Kate Stevens.”
“A pleasure, Miss Stevens. My name is Joanne McClain.”
“Oh, I’m fully aware; Emily has told me all about you,” Kate said with a smile before turning to the members of Triple Trouble. “I was happy to learn you agreed to perform at some of Emily’s shows.”
“We’re more than happy to,” Jeanie replied.
“Yeah, it’s a great opportunity for us,” Billie added.
“Well, in that case and because Miss McClain here put on such an excellent show, how about I try and provide you with the information you seek?” Kate offered.
Joanne nodded before saying, “It’s nothing huge; I was just trying to figure out who really arranged for these three to perform here.”
“What do you mean?” Kate asked with a smile. “Were you not invited to perform for the birthday girl?”
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
“Supposedly, but why did they only ask them to perform two songs after all the money they would have had to fork out?” Joanne asked in return.
Kate smiled before suggesting with a smirk, “Maybe you should give up bodyguard work and become a PI.”
“It wasn’t that hard to figure out,” Joanne said dismissively.
“True, but then again, I wasn’t exactly trying to cover it up either,” Kate revealed.
“You!” Millie exclaimed.
“But why?” Jeanie asked.
“Are you trying to poach us?” Billie asked.
“Would you be interested if I were?” Kate asked in amusement.
The three looked at each other before each of them said, “Yes.”
“Galaxy Studios is a far bigger entertainment company than SKK,” Millie stated.
“Not to mention the contracts are way better,” Billie added.
“Noted,” Kate replied with a smile.
“If you're that interested in poaching them, why all the cloak and dagger?” Joanne asked.
“Isn’t that obvious, Jo?” Millie asked. “To avoid unnecessary problems, Miss Stevens doesn’t want SKK to find out too early.”
“Well, that’s one of the reasons,” Kate admitted. “Though not the main reason.”
“There’s a more important reason?” Millie asked in a depressed tone.
“Don’t sound so depressed; importance is subjective after all,” Kate replied.
“Then what could be more important to Galaxy Studios than signing Triple Trouble?” Joanne asked. “Since you organised this secret meeting?”
“Is it really secret? I mean, we’re at a party,” Billie stated while rolling her eyes.
“But for all they know, I’m simply discussing your participation in Emily’s upcoming tour,” Kate replied while winking before turning to Joanne and saying. “What I was really after was a private word with you.”
“Me?” Joanne asked in surprise.
“Do you want us to step away and give you a little privacy?” Millie asked.
“No,” Joanne instantly replied. “I’m protecting you, and I can’t do that if you wander off somewhere.”
“My, a true professional,” Kate said admiringly. “Perhaps I should see about hiring you as well.”
“Only once my contract with Triple Trouble is finished,” Joanne replied.
“Even more of a reason to poach them then,” Kate said jokingly. “Though I notice you said your contract is with Triple Trouble, not SKK?”
“Well, if you want to be exact, It’s for… … and …
“Interesting,” Kate replied thoughtfully.
“So, what did you wish to discuss with me, Miss Stevens?” Joanne asked.
“I would like you to put me in contact with Adam Spencer,” Kate replied, surprising the four women.
“You know he’s not even on Earth, right?” Joanne asked. “Emily must have told you.”
“I’m aware, though, as a viewer of his stream, I’m assuming you're able to message him directly?” Kate asked.
“Unfortunately not,” Joanne said with a sigh. “I tried in the past, but I don't have access to send messages on the Universal Subspace Network. The best I can do is write something in the chat and hope he sees it and responds.”
“How unfortunate,” Kate sighed.
“Can I ask why you wanted to contact him? Surely you're not planning to try and sign him?” Joanne asked.
Kate laughed before saying, “That would be rather amusing, wouldn’t it, but no. What I wish to discuss with him is a private matter for Emily and me.”
“I see,” Joanne said while frowning.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing overly suspicious,” Kate stated as she saw Joanne’s frown. “Tell you what, if you manage to arrange a meeting with him for me, I will allow you all to attend.”
“I guess I can agree to that since I’m curious what you want to discuss with him,” Joanne replied.
“Excellent, take my number so that you can contact me if and when you get a response,” Kate stated as she took out her phone.
Joanne nodded before exchanging contact information.
“Now,” Kate said, turning back to the members of Triple Trouble. “How about we have a meeting tomorrow and discuss your futures?”
As Kate was arranging her meeting with the members of Triple Trouble, Joanne logged into Adam’s stream and, as expected, saw that he was offline, so she went straight to the chat to send a message.

“Supreme Leader, it appears we have a situation on Flamyre,” Sub-leader White stated as he entered the same large circular room.
Atop the same raised platform, covered in shadows, the Supreme Leader asked, “What kind of situation?”
“An anomaly has been detected from the portable subspace relay on Flamyre,” Sub-leader White answered.
“What kind of anomaly?” The Supreme Leader asked.
“Our engineers are still trying to ascertain that, but in the meantime, please bring up the Ashes Galaxy branch of the USNN,” Sub-leader White requested.
“Hmm,” The Supreme Leader replied before doing as requested.
“As you can see, the PSF have completely surrounded the small moon of Flamyre,” The USNN reporter spoke as the holographic screen changed to show the fleet surrounding Flamyre.
“There has still been no official statement from the PSF or the Phoenix Imperial Palace; however, one inside source tells us that evidence has been found of Fiere Lucent selling weapons without a license.
Stay with USNN for more information on this story.”
The Supreme Leader was silent for a moment. “Has there been any word from Fiere or Gan?”
“No, sir, all attempts to contact them have failed,” Sub-leader White replied before adding. “I have already dispatched some of our agents.”
“Good,” The Supreme Leader replied. “Find out everything that happened there and why Fiere and Gan didn’t alert us to this situation as soon as the PSF arrived.”
“Perhaps they also detected the anomaly in the portable subspace relay and figured it wasn’t safe to use?” Sub-leader White suggested.
“Or perhaps they have deserted us,” The Supreme Leader stated coldly.
