SSS Awakening: All My Clones Have Divine Bloodlines!
Chapter 146: Looting the Abyss GodsEvan felt a chill run down his spine the moment he heard those words, finally understanding the reason behind that unsettling smile.
’Holy... this woman actually wants me to go around looting the Abyss Gods. Just how much does she hate them to come up with something like that?’ he thought, deciding then and there that he’d never willingly make an enemy of a lunatic like her.
That said, as playful as this goddess could be, or rather, as terrifyingly insane in this particular case, her idea wasn’t bad at all.
One of Evan’s main problems was accumulating enough affinity with both Laws to be able to manipulate them and use them to escape this place.
As for the Law of Space, things were going well for now, since he could obtain it from the Forsaken. But with time?
He knew there was only one way, isolating the law of time from the snow that blanketed every surface of this place, and hoping he wouldn’t die in the process.
Even Seraphine herself had told him that trying a method like that was risky, so he’d decided to first boost his affinity with the space element, get a solid handle on it, and only then attempt something like that.
But now it seemed there might be another way, one that was perhaps less dangerous.
’So these avatars are that weak?’ Evan thought after hearing Seraphine explain it that way.
She’d said they should be weak, or at the very least, none of them should have reached the rank of Overlord yet.
Right now, even an A-rank could be lethal for Evan, but compared to an S-rank, that was still something.
With that in mind, Evan quickly decided on his next course of action.
If he was going to confront that strange plant, then it would be best to complete his advancement first.
After that...
He could decide whether to attack immediately or wait a little longer.
Shadow, who’d remained motionless the whole time, which had started to unnerve Lirien a little, finally moved.
Or rather, he made a small gesture with his hand, and moments later a couple of his subordinates appeared beside him, startling Lirien a bit.
Shadow, however, paid her no mind and continued with whatever he was doing.
Soon, from a nearby tree, a creature began to emerge. A Forsaken.
Just one.
There were no others.
It had barely appeared and only had a moment to register the figures nearby before Shadow’s two subordinates reached it and attacked without hesitation.
’Huh?’
Lirien watched everything unfold in complete confusion.
Her bewilderment only deepened when she saw what the two subordinates actually did.
’What are they doing?’ she wondered, watching that they hadn’t killed it outright, instead, they’d cut off its limbs, leaving the Forsaken now howling, whether from agony or rage, she couldn’t tell.
Either way, the two subordinates grabbed it and dragged it over to Shadow, who stepped aside, and moments later the mutilated Forsaken was thrown down in front of Lirien.
"Kill it." A single phrase, that was all she heard from this strange being before it turned as if to leave.
’Kill it? Why, and how am I supposed to do that?’ she thought, looking down at the state of her arms, shattered beyond anything short of mana-based healing. She needed a healing potion or a healer’s help at minimum.
In her current condition, she was practically incapable of doing anything.
Just as she wondered what this strange being was trying to get her to do, one of the subordinates picked up what looked like a dark blade, perhaps made of shadow, and drove it into the creature’s neck. It let out a cry but didn’t die, not because its neck was too tough, but because the strike hadn’t gone all the way through.
The subordinate that had done it then turned toward her, as if waiting.
Lirien understood.
’It wants me to deliver the finishing blow,’ she realized immediately. She wasn’t sure why these strange beings wanted her to do something like this, but she went along with it without much ceremony.
Gathering the little strength left in her legs, she jumped. Using the weight of her own body, she drove the sword downward.
The blade sank completely into the Forsaken’s neck, which finally stopped moving.
Lirien wondered what else they wanted from her, but the subordinates simply began to disperse, just like before.
Once again, confusion filled her face.
Then, something else happened.
The creature, having just been killed, seemed to crumble into ash before her eyes.
A moment later...
A strange pearl rolled out from the remains.
She noticed it immediately.
But didn’t pick it up.
"Take it. It’ll help you recover from your injuries." The being’s voice rang out again.
It was no longer standing on the ground.
Instead, it was sitting comfortably on a nearby tree branch high above her.
Lirien wasn’t sure what he was trying to get her to do, but decided not to argue for now and did as told.
And soon, she understood why he’d told her to use that strange little pearl.
’This... what kind of energy is this?’ she thought, stunned, as she felt a strange energy from the pearl being absorbed, similar to how mana worked, except this wasn’t mana. It was something else, something that seemed to revitalize her body, and even more surprising, it was actually starting to mend the fractures in her arms.
She was shocked, but also relieved, because she could finally start recovering her strength, something that would boost her chances of surviving a bit longer here.
She kept at it, and after about an hour, her body hadn’t fully recovered, but her energy now felt full, even stronger than before. She no longer felt the exhaustion or hunger from earlier.
Only now did she notice something else, the pearl still held plenty of that strange energy, and she’d already noticed how it seemed to influence her strength.
A thought crossed her mind, and she couldn’t help but wonder if it could help her rise in rank too.
But she didn’t act on it right away. Instead, she turned toward the silent figure that had reappeared not long ago after disappearing for a while. She had no idea where he’d gone, nor whether he would return at all. When he finally did, she felt a strange sense of relief, though she couldn’t explain why.
"Hmm, thank you for helping me," she said, but got no response, which made the whole thing a bit more awkward.
She wondered what to do for a few seconds before finally asking what she’d been wanting to ask for a while now.
"Can I ask why you’re helping me?"
The other side didn’t answer right away. He looked at her, as if he could see straight through flesh and bone, seeming to confirm something to himself before finally saying,
"I want you to take me to that strange plant."
