The fight between Percival and Evan lasted far shorter than Lirien expected.

Percival, transformed into that strange creature, had been powerful, far more than before. His presence had been very close to what Adrian’s transformed form had felt like, something that had worried Lirien a little.

However, she quickly realized those worries were unnecessary, as that strange guy completely overwhelmed him, tossing him around with little to no effort.

That only made her more curious about who this guy was, curiosity that stripped away what little caution she still held toward him.

That said, she now stood only a few meters from the battlefield, watching Percival pinned to the trunk of a tree.

The trunk was thick, at least 2 to 4 meters across, sturdy enough that it hadn’t come down even after Percival had been thrown into it with that much force.

Percival, now completely rendered helpless, stayed there, his mind in turmoil, part of it from the external entity’s influence, part from the pain, part from the confusion clouding his consciousness as recent events flooded through his mind.

Until moments ago, the only thing he’d been able to think about was eliminating the threat in front of him. But why was it a threat, and why did he need to eliminate it?

Because his Master wanted it, and he followed orders without ever questioning them. Now, though, it was different. Battered as he was, his mind seemed to shake free of that external influence just enough for him to think clearly again, if only for an instant. But that was enough.

"Y-you’re that..."

He tried to say something, but instead coughed up blood. His voice, already hoarse, had become even more distorted and incomprehensible after the transformation.

Yet Evan still heard him.

"Seems like there’s still a bit of you left in there somewhere," Evan murmured, a little surprised.

He’d expected the other side to be long gone by now, given how thoroughly corrupted he was by void energy and under the influence of that strange flower, practically a half-Hollow already, well on his way to becoming a full one. But it seemed some scrap of self-awareness had survived.

"Good. It wouldn’t be fun to torture you if you couldn’t even experience the pain, don’t you think?" Evan said with a gentle smile that contained absolutely no kindness.

"You... little bitch, do you really think you can kill me?" Percival forced out, his whole body screaming in pain, though he didn’t seem to care, a vicious expression spreading across his face as he stared down what had once been his family’s slave, his own personal toy to torment, now standing in front of him spitting those words back at him.

"Oh? And what makes you think I can’t?" Evan asked, already knowing exactly what Percival was referring to.

And sure enough—

"Why? You have the nerve to ask? You’re a slave under my family. Do you really think you can do whatever you want without consequences? Heheh. You dared to raise your hand against me. The mark will put you back in your place. If I were you, I’d prepare for the worst." he said, his voice broken, his laugh nothing like it used to be.

Then he stopped.

Because he’d finally noticed something, a detail he hadn’t registered right away, but now that he’d said it himself, it finally hit him.

The slave mark. It should have stopped him from even thinking about hurting him, let alone actually doing this to him and reducing him to this state. So why hadn’t it affected him at all?

In his arrogance, Percival had overlooked several details.

Evan’s strength.

The difference in their ranks.

And now, as he slowly realized the truth, Evan could see his expression changing second by second.

He seemed to be enjoying every moment of it.

"I see you’ve finally realized it. Not that it changes anything. Your fate was already sealed the moment you decided not to kill me. And for that, I’ll make sure to properly thank both you and your father once I’m out of here," Evan said, taking a step forward, closing the distance between them.

He looked Percival dead in the eyes, his expression no longer smiling like before, but calm. Even so, his eyes glowed with an unnatural violet light as he stared him down, a look that seemed to make Percival’s very soul tremble.

"W-what are you going to—" he started, but was cut off by a hand that closed around the lower half of his face.

"Shh. Your voice is irritating," Evan said, as a strange, dark violet energy began covering the hand pressed over the lower half of Percival’s face.

"If this had happened in the past, I probably would have locked you in some basement and tortured you every single day until you broke completely. But I have to admit, right now, I really don’t care enough to torture you. Getting the chance to settle a few debts has been refreshing enough. But it’s time to end this,"

"Well, goodbye. I can’t say I’ll miss you."

The moment those words left him, Percival felt a powerful force of extraction pulling from deep within him, and immediately after, a sharp, tearing pain began spreading through his entire being.

He started convulsing, as if wracked by seizures from the sheer intensity of the pain, his body no longer holding together, his mind unraveling into complete chaos. But he understood, somehow, that this wasn’t physical pain. It was something deeper, as if his very soul was being ripped out by the roots.

Evan released his grip, and what fell to the ground was not the mutated body of a monster, but the deformed skeleton of what had once been a human being.

The bones were dark, cracked in some places and deformed in others, with veins that had once been filled with Void Energy now reduced to nothing more than scattered black lines.

This was what Percival’s body had become under that Avatar’s influence.

Evan looked down at what remained of Percival for a moment, his expression indifferent, as if what he’d just done brought him neither joy nor anything else at all.

Then he turned, his gaze falling on whatever stood at the center of the nearby clearing.

"I see you’ve finally decided to make your move."
