SSS Awakening: Conquering Worlds with My Cupid System
Chapter 154: The MessageSilas had discovered something dangerous. It was not about monsters or about his powers. It was not even about the apocalypse. No.
It was the fact that once you became rich enough, absolutely nobody respected your privacy.
The evening breeze drifted lazily through the open balcony doors.
Silas sat on a reclining chair with one leg resting over the other, wearing nothing more than black shorts, a loose white tank top, and a pair of slippers that had somehow become his official footwear whenever he stayed home.
Of course, his single pink wing would be hidden. There was no reason to keep it out. Besides...
"Die!"
Tap.
His thumb slammed against his phone screen, and the boss monster in the game exploded into glittering pixels.
[VICTORY!]
"Hah." Silas leaned back with a satisfied grin. "Who’s the final boss now?"
The system remained silent. It eventually sighed.
[Congratulations. You have defeated an eight-year-old.]
"It wasn’t ranked."
[That is exactly what an eight-year-old would say.]
"You know..." Silas narrowed his eyes. "I’ve been feeling that you’re becoming more sarcastic."
[I have been observing humanity.]
"That explains everything."
Another match began, and this one wasn’t going well.
"Why is my teammate standing there?"
"Move!"
"..."
"WHY ARE YOU DANCING?!"
His character died. Silas stared blankly at the defeat screen.
"I hate multiplayer games."
His phone suddenly vibrated. A notification appeared across the top of the screen.
[Unknown Number]
His eyebrow rose. "Spam?"
He tapped it anyway, and a single image appeared. Anna, bound to a chair, with her mouth covered with tape. The room around her was dark.
Silas’s smile disappeared, his thumb freezing over the screen. Then, another message arrived.
[Look carefully.]
Another followed.
[Pretty, isn’t she?]
[One of the famous women of the new S-Rank...]
[Do you know what happens when powerful women lose their protectors?]
Another message appeared almost immediately.
[We’re going to enjoy breaking her. Then we’ll send you what’s left.]
Silas didn’t blink, not even once. The evening breeze stopped feeling cool. Another message appeared.
[You should’ve stayed in your lane, Pinky. Being famous has consequences.]
The wooden armrest beneath Silas’s hand cracked. The system immediately spoke.
[Warning!]
Mana began pouring from Silas’s body in waves. Pink particles flooded the balcony before exploding outward like a hurricane.
BOOOOOOM!!
Every flower in the nearby garden bent flat. Windows throughout the estate rattled violently. Inside the mansion, Alpha nearly fell off the sofa.
"What the hell?!"
In the kitchen, Chloe instinctively stood.
"...Silas?"
Even Gromda stopped halfway through lifting what looked suspiciously like a refrigerator with one hand. She looked toward the balcony.
"Mate..."
Outside, sleeping birds scattered into the sky. The air itself trembled. Silas slowly stood, his pink eyes glowing brighter than they ever had before. His breathing remained calm, too calm.
This was the calm before a storm. His grip tightened around the phone until the metal frame began bending.
CRRRRK...
The system didn’t interrupt him. It knew, and it chose to observe. Silas’s Heart Sense expanded instinctively, reaching hundreds of meters in seconds.
In no time, his perception exploded across the whole of New Liberty, from City A to City AX. Every heartbeat, every emotion, every thread of fate.
Then, he stopped. His eyes narrowed.
"Alive."
He could feel her. Anna, and not only was she alive, but she was also moving fast toward the estate. He even recognized the familiar rhythm of her heartbeat.
Steady, uninjured, and relieved. The murderous aura surrounding him weakened slightly. Then, his phone rang. The screen displayed a familiar name.
[Anna]
Silas answered immediately.
"Anna."
Her voice came through almost instantly.
"Silaaas." She sounded tired. "Are you alright?"
There was a brief pause on Silas’s side.
"I should be asking you that." Silas frowned. "What happened?"
Anna sighed.
"I was driving home when a few idiots decided kidnapping me sounded like a wonderful career choice."
"..."
"They’re currently sleeping."
"Sleeping?"
"I may have hit them a little."
"A little?"
"Repeatedly."
Silas pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You scared me."
"I figured." She chuckled softly. "I’ve already called the police anonymously. And before you ask... Yes. I drove away with my own car."
"I’ll be home in..." She checked something. "About five minutes."
Silas slowly exhaled. The violent pressure around the estate gradually disappeared. The flowers straightened again. The windows stopped shaking.
Inside the mansion, Alpha collapsed onto the couch.
"I almost wrote my will..."
Chloe released a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
"Mate okay." Gromda simply nodded.
Back on the balcony, Silas closed his eyes.
"Five minutes."
"Five minutes." Anna laughed softly. "Missed me already?"
"A little."
"Only a little?"
"Come home."
Her tone immediately became gentler.
"I’m already on my way."
The call ended. Silas stared once more at the anonymous messages, and his expression became frighteningly calm. There was no rage, and no visible anger. Just silence.
The system finally spoke.
[Would you like me to trace the sender?]
Silas looked at the screen one final time before deleting every single message.
"No."
[No?]
"They wanted me angry. They wanted me to rush. They wanted me to panic." His eyes slowly lifted toward the darkening sky. "I won’t give them that satisfaction."
A faint smile appeared, one that somehow looked colder than his anger.
"But..." He slipped the phone into his pocket. "They’ve already made one mistake."
[Which is?]
"They threatened someone who belongs to me. They just don’t know it yet."
For the first time in several seconds, even the system remained completely silent. Somewhere else in New Liberty, a disposable phone suddenly buzzed. The anonymous sender frowned upon seeing only one reply.
Seen. That was it. Nothing more. No panic. No threats. No desperate calls.
The man clicked his tongue.
"He’s calmer than I expected."
He casually tossed the phone into a trash incinerator. He had no idea that from the moment he had sent that first message, the pink-haired young man had already memorized every tiny detail in the photograph.
The lighting, the chair, the floor, the rope, the camera angle, and most importantly, the emotions of the person behind the camera. Silas hadn’t started hunting yet, but someone had just volunteered to become the prey.
And as for that prey, he still had no idea that Anna was never kidnapped. The images were mock, because they were sure of their success in getting the real person. They were professionals after all.
But it seemed their streak was over.
