Alex was already focusing as hard as he could because of the Battle Instinct Spell, but he had no idea how strong his soul was or whether there was anything he could do to strengthen it. That left him with only one option.

He had to focus even more.

Alex stared at the rune and tried to imagine himself injecting his Will into it. He believed if Will could be moved through his thoughts in the same way that mana could. He focused as hard as possible, and for a moment, he almost felt as if something was flowing from his mind toward the rune.

But he knew better. It was probably nothing more than a placebo effect. Sweat slowly formed on Alex’s forehead as he continued concentrating, and several minutes passed without any change.

There was no notification informing him that he had learned the Mana Circuit Spell. His method was wrong.

Alex finally released the incomplete Kinetic Element Rune and leaned back slightly. His breathing had become heavier from the prolonged concentration.

He did not know whether he was lacking the necessary soul strength or simply failing to focus correctly. If the problem was his soul, then he had no idea how he could solve it, because he did not even understand how to directly affect the strength of his soul.

However, concentration was different. That was something he could improve.

Alex already felt that he was only a hair’s breadth away from learning the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. He had been stuck at that final gap for some time, and now he had a better idea of what he was missing.

Perhaps learning the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell first would solve both problems. If he got the spell, he might be able to understand how Will was used within the spell, it might give him a clue about how to manipulate Will for the Mana Circuit Spell.

At the same time, Advanced Battle Instinct should improve his ability to concentrate, which was another requirement for generating and controlling Will. It was the best option he had.

Alex began using the Battle Instinct Spell again, altering the flow of mana through different areas of his brain just as he had done during his previous attempts. He carefully adjusted the mana while maintaining his concentration, searching for the slight change that would allow him to break through the final barrier.

He was close, very close.

Alex could feel that only a small piece of understanding was missing. Everything else about the spell seemed to make sense, yet that final gap remained beyond his reach.

He already knew what that missing piece was.

Will.

Somehow, Will was the knowledge he needed to cover that final gap. Alex only had to understand how to use it.

He thought back to Ben’s explanation. According to Ben, if a person ’thought’ about using their Will to harden the mana inside a rune, then the Will would actually harden the mana.

Why did it work that way? Ben did not know, and Alex did not know either. However, Alex theory that Will worked through intention, much like mana could be moved according to the caster’s thoughts, was becoming more believable by the second.

What if Will simply did what he wanted it to do? Alex tried to imagine his Will improving the performance of the mana reinforcing his brain, while carefully observing the flow of mana inside his head.

Something clicked. This was the correct method, and he was finally on the right path. However, just as Alex felt a sense of excitement, another feeling came from his Origin Spell Physique.

The same physique that had confirmed he had found the correct method also gave him an unpleasant piece of information. He needed several days of training to learn the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. Alex opened his eyes. He knew his physique would not mislead him, but several days was far too long.

His sister and parents were surrounded by the monsters, and Alex did not know what kind of danger they were facing. How was he supposed to protect his family if he could not become stronger quickly?

Alex understood that there had to be something different about the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. Unlike the other D Rank Spells he possessed, this spell required Will, which was clearly a higher level of understanding.

That was exactly why Alex had been so eager to learn it. It was definitely stronger than his other D Rank Spells, and if he mastered it, his overall strength would increase considerably.

Alex had originally thought the small gap preventing him from learning it could be covered within a short period of time. He had been wrong.

Alex slowly exhaled and decided to open the Reward Box he had received from completing the Tutorial Quest.

He had recently learned about the probabilities for obtaining A Rank and lower-ranked items from Reward Boxes. A Gold Reward Box had a 1.5% chance of producing an A Rank item, a 2% chance for B Rank, 3% for C Rank, 5% for D Rank, 10% for E Rank, and 20% for F Rank, with the remaining probability belonging to Trash Rank items.

Each of those probabilities decreased by 0.1% for Silver Reward Boxes, and another 0.1% for Bronze Reward Boxes. The fact that Alex had already obtained two SSS Rank Rewards, along with an A Rank and a B Rank Reward, was incredibly lucky. However, that also meant he should not expect every Reward Box to give him something useful, especially since this one was only a Silver Reward Box.

Even after reminding himself of that, Alex could not deny that he was somewhat excited.

There was always the possibility that he would obtain something powerful. Alex willed himself to open the Reward Box, and a bronze chest appeared in front of him before slowly opening.
