SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage

Another meow echoed across the rooftop, coming from the exact same location. Alex slowly turned around and saw Mia sitting on top of the thick wall surrounding the rooftop.

He immediately looked down toward the place where she had been standing a moment ago. It was empty.

Alex stared at Mia for a few seconds. She had crossed nearly twenty meters in what felt like a split second, and that was impossible for a normal cat.

A faint smile slowly appeared on Alex’s face as he finally understood what Mia was doing. She had not admitted anything, but she had chosen to reveal the truth to him in her own way. She had decided to show him, even if she was unwilling to reveal it directly.

Alex walked toward her and picked her up before she could react. He immediately began rubbing her head vigorously, messing up the smooth fur she always kept so carefully maintained.

"You damned cat, if you’re an Ascendant, you could have joined my faction. I had to spend so much time searching for people, and you could have helped us in battle instead of just sitting around on your fat ass!" he scolded with a smile.

Mia meowed furiously and scratched at his hands, desperately trying to escape his grasp. She eventually jumped away and glared at him from a safe distance, raising one paw and extending her claws as if warning him not to do that again.

Alex looked at her disheveled fur and could not help chuckling. Mia seemed to realize that he had ruined the neat appearance she always maintained, so she sat down and immediately began licking herself clean.

Every few moments, however, she gave Alex a cold sideways glance as if silently promising that she would get her revenge later. Alex shook his head.

Before he could say anything else, a knock came from the rooftop door.

"Alex."

It was Sophia’s voice.

"You can enter," he said.

The door opened, and Sophia stepped onto the rooftop. She looked around briefly before turning toward Alex.

"It’s time to leave," Sophia said.

Alex nodded. He had learned Mia’s secret and strengthened his Talent during his time on the rooftop, which made his time there worthwhile. He had not obtained the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell, but he had still gained several things that would prove useful. It was a good result.

Alex walked toward the rooftop door alongside Sophia, but just as they reached it, he suddenly stopped.

"Alex?" Sophia asked.

She turned around after noticing that he was no longer following her. Alex did not answer immediately and simply stood there, thinking about himself and the decision he had just made.

Was he really going to leave, even though he had failed to learn the spell? Was he truly satisfied with simply accepting that it would take several days because his physique had told him so?

Alex knew that, logically, he should leave, but he did not like the thought of simply giving up after encountering a single roadblock. He realized that he genuinely loved learning spells and mastering them. If a single obstacle was enough to make him abandon a spell, then how could he claim that he loved magic? That would be too damn pathetic.

’Fuck it,’ he muttered.

Alex made his decision. He would learn the spell, even if his physique said he could not learn it quickly, because he would show it that it was possible.

"I’ll come back in ten minutes," Alex said.

Before Sophia could say anything, Alex closed the rooftop door and locked it. He then returned to the place where he had been sitting and immediately entered his training state again.

Alex knew that he needed the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. The monsters he encountered on the way to his sister could be far stronger than the ones he had already fought, and he could not simply give up because he had encountered a small roadblock.

His physique said he could not learn the spell with his training method quickly? Fine, then he would brute-force it.

Alex began pouring an obscene amount of highly compressed mana into his brain. The mana became unstable from how much he was forcing into such a small area, and even after reaching the limit his brain could safely handle, Alex continued adding more.

He did not stop. His focus reached a level he had never experienced before. Every part of his mind was concentrated on controlling the mana and understanding the spell, even as the unstable energy began damaging his brain. Alex knew he was hurting himself, but he continued anyway.

His focus had reached its limit, yet the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell still refused to appear. The problem was no longer concentration, because he had already pushed that aspect as far as he could. It was Will, and he needed to train his control over it before he could complete the spell.

That was what his Origin Spell Physique was telling him. Alex thought for a moment before deciding on another approach. If he could not improve his Will directly, then he would strengthen his soul.

Ben had said that using Will required a strong soul and intense focus. Alex had already pushed his focus to its limit, so the only thing left was the strength of his soul.

The problem was that Alex did not know where his soul was. He decided to find it.

Alex flooded his entire body with mana, using an amount that he had never able to use before. His increased mana pool allowed him to spend absurd amounts of mana without immediately running dry, so he began reinforcing every part of his body.

Every muscle, organ, bone, and cell was strengthened. His mind was already being torn apart by the unstable mana and the extreme concentration required to control it, but Alex continued reinforcing his entire body.

If the soul existed within him, then it had to be somewhere inside his body. If something belonged to him, Alex believed he should be able to reinforce it with mana, so he would reinforce everything.

Eventually, the world disappeared from his awareness. There was nothing else left, no rooftop, no city, and no monsters.

There was only Alex’s body and the enormous amount of mana flowing through it. He carefully observed the mana as it passed through every part of his body, looking for some place where the amount being absorbed was greater than what should have been necessary to reinforce the physical body there.

Finding it was strangely easy and difficult at the same time.

Alex searched through his entire body and eventually found three locations that behaved differently from the rest. One was inside his brain, another was inside his heart, and the third was near his navel.

All three locations were absorbing more mana than the physical reinforcement there should have required. Alex’s brows furrowed slightly as he realized what that meant.

’There places.’

That had to be where his soul was. He did not understand why there were three different points, nor did he know whether all three were actually connected to his soul or if they were where his soul was, but he had no other explanation for the strange mana absorption.

Alex decided to test his theory.

He gathered an enormous amount of compressed mana and directed it toward all three points at once. The mana poured into them as Alex kept increasing the pressure, forcing more and more mana into those mysterious locations despite the pain spreading throughout his body.

His body began to creak under the strain, but he refused to stop. Then something shattered.
