Alex felt as though he had broken through a barrier in all three locations simultaneously. Pain exploded through his body, and it was not merely physical pain. Something deeper was hurting, something that Alex had never felt before. Blood immediately began dripping from his nose as his mind felt as though it were being torn apart.

Yet Alex smiled faintly. He had found it.

His soul.

The three broken barriers were like closed gates, and now mana could pass through them. Alex did not know where that mana was going, but he could feel that it was touching something that was not physical.

Something ethereal. Something that was an essential part of him.

His soul.

Alex poured even more compressed mana through the broken gates. His ethereal soul seemed to greedily absorb the mana, as if this was how the mana was always meant to be used. His soul was becoming temporarily more tangible each passing second.

Then Alex felt something. It was a sensation he had been searching for without even knowing how to search for it.

[Will.]

Alex finally understood. Will was the manifestation of the soul, the condensed expression of the soul.

He had been able to control it from the beginning. The reason his mana responded to his thoughts so naturally was because his mana was already imbued with his Will, guiding it according to his intentions.

The reason Alex had never been able to sense it was simple. His soul had been too weak.

If his Will had been a single hay before, then now it was a huge haystack. Alex could feel its weight clearly, and for the first time, he understood just how much Will had actually been imbued within his mana.

He immediately poured more Will into his brain. At the same time, he reduced the amount of mana entering his head and began circulating it in the patterns he believed the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell required. Nothing happened.

Alex remained focused and carefully observed the mana moving through his brain. The pattern was correct, the mana was correct, and his concentration was far beyond what it had been before, but the spell still refused to activate.

The only thing needed was for Will to assimilate into the process.

Alex knew what to do. He simply ’willed’ it to happen. He willed the mana to strengthen his brain, and his Will immediately responded. It interacted with the mana flowing through his brain, and Alex suddenly felt a change occur within it. The mana was no longer simply mana.

It had become mana carrying a powerful yet simple will.

Alex had done it.

The moment his Will successfully interacted with the mana, the entire process changed. The mana began reinforcing his brain far more effectively, and his mind instantly became several times sharper than before.

Alex opened his eyes with a smile finally appearing on his face. He reached up and wiped away the blood that had been dripping from his nose before turning his attention toward the notifications that had appeared in front of him.

[Soul Reinforcement Spell detected.]

[Yes/No.]

There was another notification.

[Advanced Battle Instinct Spell detected.]

Alex was surprised by the first notification, and he felt satisfied when he saw the second one. He could already feel himself using the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell, so the notification only confirmed what he had already suspected.

Of course, he didn’t technically need to learn the spell through the System. Even if he didn’t add it to his status screen, he could still use it, but spells on his status screen could be evolved, so there was no reason for him to give up that advantage.

He selected ’Yes’, and the System immediately responded.

Alex couldn’t help but find the System’s comment strange. Why was it acting as though he were some kind of maniac? He decided to ignore the comment and moved on to the spell itself.

The moment the spell appeared on his status screen, the System started assisting him. His mana flow became smoother, and the spell’s performance improved almost immediately, making the entire process feel much more natural.

Alex felt... alive, and the world suddenly seemed much different. It was as if his mind had been running on an i5 processor until now, only to suddenly be upgraded to the latest generation of Intel’s high-end processors, and the sheer amount of information he could process at once had increased by a huge margin.

Everything felt smoother, and Alex noticed the difference most clearly when he focused on the lightning element rune inside his heart. Until now, maintaining the rune required around forty percent of his concentration, so he always had to keep part of his mind focused on holding it stable.

Now, he barely needed to think about it. A part of his mind seemed to automatically keep hold of the rune while the rest remained free to focus on other things, and it was a liberating feeling, as though a heavy weight that had been resting on his shoulders had suddenly been lifted.

Alex decided to test the spell properly. He activated Mana Sense, but instead of using Elastic Thread to release pulses in the shape of mana rings, he simply extended his mana outward through raw concentration.

Previously, his control had improved enough to extend his mana from sixteen inches to seventeen inches, but that had been his limit. Now, his mana reached thirty inches, nearly doubling his range with the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell.
