"I have no idea. But you should have already seen how they operate. The Wild Orcs constantly release their Origin Energy, which freezes anyone caught within their surroundings, and then they capture those people while they are unable to move," Roan explained.
Alex frowned as he listened to Roan. From what Roan had explained, the Origin Energy released by the Wild Orcs was not simply leaking from their bodies, but was being deliberately released, which meant they had some control over it. However, it was the second part of Roan’s explanation that caught Alex’s attention the most.
The Wild Orcs were capturing people.
Alex immediately recalled the two Wild Orcs he had seen fighting at close range. One was the creature he had encountered near Jaelo Supermart, while Tina and Ophelia had fought another, and both Wild Orcs had attempted to grab them with their hands.
At the time, Alex had assumed that the monsters simply found them interesting as it might be their first time seeing humans today. Now that he knew the Wild Orcs were capturing humans and taking them somewhere, those actions seemed much more important.
’Wild Orcs are smart enough to capture people, and they are taking them somewhere,’ Alex realized.
Something was clearly wrong.
"Let’s go. We’ll rescue the people first, and then we can discuss this matter in detail," Alex said.
Roan nodded immediately, looking ready to leave.
"We’ll return soon. Wait for us," Alex said as he looked toward his group.
"We’ll come with you," Tina quickly said.
Ophelia also nodded, making it clear that she wanted to help while also using this chance to get stronger. Alex’s brows creased because he already knew what he needed to say, and although it was not particularly nice, there was no time to worry about Rae’s feelings.
"We’re in a hurry, and we can’t bring Miss Rae along," Alex said.
"Don’t worry about me. Just take these two," Rae grunted.
"Yes. We’ll fight with just the two of us this time, so please let us come," Tina added.
Alex looked at her for a moment. Her expression was determined, and he could tell that trying to convince her to stay behind would only waste more time.
"Alright," Alex said.
He and Roan immediately broke into a sprint. Alex was slightly surprised that Roan managed to keep up with him. Alex was not using Lightning-element mana to increase his speed or even using the full strength of his Advanced Body Reinforcement Spell.
So, this was not Alex’s full speed.
If he ran as fast as he could, he would move so quickly that he would likely crash into the wreckage scattered throughout the streets. When he had ran near the Jaelo Supermart earlier, Alex had memorized the path before moving at full speed, but this area was unfamiliar enough that he could not simply run blindly through it.
Still, while Alex could go faster, Roan was most likely not moving at his maximum speed either. Alex wondered whether the man could keep up with him if he truly went all out. Tina and Ophelia followed behind them, although they were clearly struggling to maintain the pace, while Roan was too focused on reaching the survivors to slow down.
After moving through several streets, the group stopped near a turn. Alex and Roan peeked from the side and immediately saw two Wild Orcs in the distance, each one towering like a four-story building above the road.
Both creatures were moving forward, with one Wild Orc walking at the front and the other following behind. Between them were around ten people who were being forced to move along the road, with some of the survivors shivering while others were crying as they struggled to keep walking.
"They’re continuing even without the two Wild Orcs I baited away and killed. Whatever these creatures are doing must be important enough that they don’t want to stop," Roan said, his expression hardening.
His gaze became fierce as he looked at the two Wild Orcs, almost as though he were staring at mortal enemies. He took several deep breaths and prepared to step forward, but Alex stopped him before he could move.
"I’ll deal with one. Tina and Ophelia will deal with the other, and you can have the Gene Potential from the second Wild Orc. Just let Tina and Ophelia fight," Alex said.
Roan looked bewildered, and his expression seemed to ask why Alex was talking so calmly about fighting two creatures that towered over them like buildings. According to what Alex had learned, Roan had originally intended to bait only one Wild Orc away from the survivors, but he had accidentally attracted two.
While trying to fight the two creatures and keep moving, Roan had noticed another Wild Orc heading in a different direction, and that creature had been moving toward the location where his group of survivors had been hiding. Because he could not allow it to find them, Roan had been forced to fight that Wild Orc as well.
In the end, he had fought three Wild Orcs and barely managed to win. Even now, Roan admitted that he could not repeat such a feat, with his limit being one Wild Orc or two if he was prepared to risk his life.
’The third Wild Orc must have been coming after me, sent by the Wild Orc leader, after I killed the Wild Orc at Jaelo Supermart,’ Alex theorized.
That also explained why Alex had not been chased by a Wild Orc after blocking the spear earlier. Roan had intercepted it before it could reach Alex, meaning the creature had been diverted toward someone else without Alex ever realizing it.
Alex began preparing a Fire Bullet while keeping his eyes on the two Wild Orcs farther down the road. Neither creature was releasing Origin Energy, allowing the humans between them to continue moving without being frozen. This proved Roan’s words about the monster’s being capable of controlling their Origin Energy.
Additionally, whenever one of the survivors slowed down, stopped, or tried to move away, the Wild Orcs would roar at them and force them forward through intimidation.
