Rae took a slow breath and aimed at the farthest Wild Orc. She pulled the trigger, and the monster immediately roared as blood burst from its jaw. Rae had been aiming for its eye, but the bullet had missed, and she did not waste time reacting to the mistake.

She adjusted her aim and prepared for another shot while the Wild Orcs began looking around. The other two had already realized that something was wrong, and their attention was slowly turning toward the surrounding buildings. Rae fired again, and the second Wild Orc roared as blood sprayed from its nose.

She had missed its eye as well, but this time the bullet had come much closer. The third Wild Orc suddenly turned its head toward the building, and its gaze stopped exactly where Rae and Ophelia were before it started running toward them.

Ophelia’s breathing became heavier. She knew what would happen if the Wild Orc reached the building, and she also knew they could not simply remain on the thirtieth floor and wait for it to attack. If the Wild Orcs brought it down, both she and Rae would be buried beneath the collapsing structure.

Still, she did not say anything because Rae had repeatedly told her before the operation to let her shoot all three Wild Orcs without disturbing her.

The third Wild Orc had already covered half the distance. The other two had also begun moving toward the building, although they were farther away and had not reached the same speed. Rae calmly adjusted her position and aimed at the third Wild Orc before pulling the trigger.

The bullet struck its eye.

The Wild Orc lost its balance and let out a tremendous roar before crashing into the side of another ruined building.

"Go! Go! Go! Go!" Rae said, swiftly packing the sniper.

Ophelia immediately moved. She lifted Rae and secured the elderly woman against her back with a cloth that had been prepared beforehand, then rushed through the doorway and began descending the stairs as quickly as she could. Her heart was racing as every few seconds another Wild Orc’s roar reached them from outside.

Ophelia was fast, but she could not run recklessly through the narrow stairwell because every turn forced her to slow down enough to keep her balance. Sweat gathered on her forehead as she passed the twenty-fifth floor and continued downward. Twenty-floor. Fifteenth-floor. The building suddenly groaned, and Origin Energy surged toward them, pressing against Ophelia’s body and trying to slow her down.

She gritted her teeth and forced more Aura into her legs, refusing to stop. Rae could not help her move faster, but she remained surprisingly calm despite the situation.

By the time Ophelia reached the thirteenth floor, another heavy impact shook the building.

"Tenth," she muttered as she continued downward, then passed the ninth and eighth floors while the walls began creaking around them. The entire building was slowly beginning to tilt.

Ophelia kept running and reached the seventh floor, then the sixth. When she reached the fifth floor, the sound outside had become deafening, and she knew the Wild Orc had finally reached the building.

A giant fist suddenly smashed through the wall. The impact destroyed part of the floor and sent pieces of concrete crashing down the stairwell, while the stairs beneath Ophelia collapsed before she could continue. Through the destroyed wall, the Wild Orc’s face appeared, and one of its eyes was missing from Rae’s earlier shot.

Ophelia did not hesitate. She jumped out through the broken wall and landed on the monster’s extended arm, then quickly ran across it toward the Wild Orc’s shoulder because the stairs were no longer an option. Once she reached its neck, she drove her fist into it with all the strength she could manage.

The punch burrowed into the monster’s neck, forcing a choking sound from its throat. The Wild Orc immediately raised its other hand and swung it toward Ophelia, trying to crush her against its own body, but she jumped away and landed on its knee as the monster buckled from the earlier blow.

Pain shot through her legs from the height of the fall, but she ignored it and increased her Aura output before jumping again. This time, she landed on the asphalt, and a sharp crack came from her legs as the impact traveled through her body. The pain was severe, but the adrenaline allowed her to ignore it, and she immediately dashed toward the nearest alley.

Rae was okay despite the high fall because she had invested all of her points into Constitution until now, which had made her body much tougher than it otherwise would have been.

They had successfully lured the Wild Orcs away from their original position, but that was only the first part of their task.

They needed to take the Wild Orcs even farther away. If the monsters returned too quickly, Alex and Roan would have almost no time to enter the defense line.

Just as Ophelia stepped into the alley, a giant shadow suddenly fell over her. She turned her head slightly and saw a massive hand moving through the alleyway opening, reaching toward her with enough force to crush her if it caught her.

...

Robert was taking deep breaths while holding a grenade in his hand. He was part of the second Wild Orc luring team, and unlike the first group, they had no one who could attack from a great distance.

Rae’s sniper rifle had made the first group much more suited for drawing the Wild Orcs away because she could attack them without immediately putting herself within their reach. Robert and the others did not have that advantage, so they had created a different plan that depended on explosions and careful movement.

Robert took another deep breath and looked at the grenade in his hand. He kept telling himself that it would not suddenly explode while he was holding it, and although a grenade was probably the least dangerous thing he had seen that day, his hands still trembled slightly.

He was alone inside a car workshop, hiding behind a desk near the back of the building. The second group had deliberately separated themselves because their plan required each person to create an explosion at a different location before moving ahead and preparing the next one.
