The caster shrieked as its muscles spasmed uncontrollably. Electricity coursed through its body, and whatever precise control it needed to maintain its abilities disappeared, causing the golden shield to vanish completely as the monster began falling through the air.

The Origin Energy trying to freeze Alex disappeared for a split second before an intense pressure suddenly slammed into him. He could now clearly see the falling caster, and the calm superiority that had filled its eyes earlier was gone, replaced by panic.

The monster was not trying to fly or rebuild its shield. Instead, it poured everything into freezing Alex and Alex only, using its remaining strength to attack him rather than stop its fall.

Origin Energy pierced Alex’s body more violently than before. This time, he felt the Will already inside his body being pulled away, leaving only the fresh Will emerging directly from his Soul Gates under his control.

The two Wild Orcs charging through the alley had almost reached him. From this distance, Alex could hear their breaths shaking the broken street, and there was a hint of victory in the caster’s eyes as it continued suppressing him long enough for the two Wild Orcs to reach him.

Alex remained calm. While the caster had fixed its entire attention on him, Roan had moved behind the monster, and the caster did not notice him until it was already too late. The caster suddenly realized its mistake. Its head jerked toward Roan, but before it could react, Roan stepped forward and drove his fist into the monster’s chest.

The impact was brutal. Roan’s fist buried itself into the caster’s chest with a sickening crack, and the monster’s body arched from the force before flying toward Alex.

Despite the devastating blow, it was still alive. Barely.

Alex gritted his teeth as he watched it fly closer. Roan’s punch had disrupted the monster enough that it could no longer freeze Alex’s body, allowing him to move again, but something had not changed.

The staff.

Alex believed the staff was what allowed the caster to absorb the Will, and it was still absorbing the Will from inside Alex’s body. Without Will, Alex could not properly shape or control mana, no matter how much of it remained inside him, and without mana control, he was simply an injured human standing in front of two charging giants.1

The caster stared at him while blood poured from its mouth. Its eyes still carried hatred, but now there was also a cruel grin, as if it believed surviving Roan’s ambush had already secured its victory.

Alex slowly pulled his fist back. His breathing remained steady despite the crushing pressure of the uncaged mana inside his body, and the Wild Orcs were almost upon him.

Alex flooded his hand with mana. He could not finely shape it anymore because Will controlled precision, so instead of trying to reinforce individual muscles like he had learned to do, he poured mana into his entire hand at once, letting sheer force replace control as he prepared for whatever came next.

The caster Wild Orc’s flying body finally reached Alex. He stepped forward and punched with his remaining strength, his fist striking the monster’s head before it could do anything.

The caster seemed to believe it could still win until the very end. Its head exploded from the impact, and the force of Alex’s punch created a shockwave that spread through the surrounding area and launched his own body backward.

Alex did not waste time lying on the ground. He quickly pushed himself up and jumped to his feet, although his right arm dangled uselessly beside him because every muscle inside it had been torn apart by the force of the punch.

Despite the pain, a faint smile appeared on Alex’s face. The caster was dead, which meant its debuff had disappeared, and without its support, the Wild Orcs had also lost the strengthening effect that had made them so difficult to fight.

The Wild Orc behind him reached him before he could turn around. Alex did not even need to look directly at it, as his Mana Sense had already told him where the monster was, and he fired a Fire Bullet backward.

The attack punched through the Wild Orc’s head. The monster collapsed before it could touch him, and Alex immediately turned toward the other Wild Orc approaching from the side.

It received the same fate. A Fire Bullet tore through its head before it could react, and its enormous body crashed onto the ruined street.

Without the caster’s support, the Wild Orcs were helpless against Alex. They could no longer dodge his Fire Bullets at close range, and as long as he could get within a reasonable distance, the attacks were simply too fast for them to avoid.

Alex moved through the battlefield while firing one Fire Bullet after another. He did not waste mana on unnecessary attacks, and every shot was aimed at a vital point, allowing him to bring down the remaining Wild Orcs one after another.

The fight that had seemed almost impossible only moments earlier was suddenly coming to an end. The monsters still possessed overwhelming physical strength, but without the caster, that strength was no longer enough to overcome Alex’s speed and attacks.

Roan joined him for the final few monsters. The two of them attacked together, and after another short struggle, the last Wild Orc finally fell to the ground.

Silence slowly returned to the ruined street.

Roan slumped down where he stood, breathing heavily as his body finally reached its limit. Alex remained standing, although his condition was not much better, and he kept his eyes on the surroundings instead of relaxing.

He was waiting for the notifications.

Alex had learned not to assume a battle was over simply because the enemies in front of him had stopped moving. Only when the system notifications appeared would he know that there were no more enemies remaining in the area.

Several seconds passed.

Alex continued watching the broken buildings and empty streets while Roan struggled to catch his breath. There were no more roars, no more footsteps shaking the ground, and no new Wild Orcs appeared.

Then the notifications finally came.
