Alex finished considering the possibilities and looked toward the Wild Orc leader again. He still did not have enough information to determine which theory was correct, but there was no reason to waste time trying to figure it out now.
He reached into his Inventory and took out one of the small pieces of iron he had prepared earlier. Alex looked at it for a moment before turning his attention toward the distant Wild Orc leader.
It was time to find out whether his idea would actually work.
Alex tightened his grip around the small iron piece and brought it in front of himself. Behind it, he carefully created a hollow stump of mana, shaping it so that it remained connected to the iron without interfering with the projectile itself.
Once the structure was stable, he created and placed a fire-element mana cables inside it as the payload, then lifted the entire piece into the air by maintaining his connection with the mana surrounding the iron.
Now came the difficult part. Alex focused on the lightning-element rune inside his heart and began pouring mana into it, allowing the rune to transform his mana into lightning-element mana before he guided it outside his body.
Two horizontal lightning rods slowly formed in front of him, both aimed directly at the Wild Orc leader. After obtaining the Soul Reinforcement Spell and leveling up his Advanced Battle Instinct Spell, Alex’s control over his mana had improved considerably, allowing him to manipulate it accurately up to thirty-five inches away from his body.
That meant each lightning rod could extend thirty-five inches without becoming unstable. Blue lightning began crawling across the two rods as Alex continued feeding more mana into them, compressing the energy while keeping the flow under control. The crackling became louder with every passing moment, and Alex could feel the power building between the rods.
Lightning-element spells consumed far more mana than ordinary spells, including fire-element spells, and this spell required even more because Alex was not simply creating lightning. He was maintaining two concentrated channels while controlling the flow of electricity through them, turning the rods into something much more dangerous than the other lightning spell he had.
Alex placed the hardened iron piece between the two rods.
The principle was simple. A railgun used electromagnetic force to accelerate a conductive projectile between two rails, turning electrical energy into tremendous kinetic energy, and the resulting projectile could reach devastating speeds without relying on ordinary gunpowder.
Alex’s version was miniature compared to a real railgun, but the principle remained the same. Because he could control the electricity flowing through the lightning rods, he could control the electromagnetic force acting on the iron projectile, while the fire-element payload gave it another source of destructive power.
Alex pulled the projectile backward using an elastic mana thread. He had recently learned how to create an elastic mana casing, and that would have been better for this purpose, but he was still unfamiliar with controlling that type of casing while maintaining the lightning rods, so the thread required less concentration for now.
He aimed at the Wild Orc leader.
The amount of mana flowing into the lightning rods continued to increase, and sweat slowly formed across Alex’s forehead. He glanced at the creature standing on top of Patrick High School, but the Wild Orc leader still did not seem to have noticed him.
That was strange. The leader should have sensed something by now, especially with this much lightning-element mana being gathered nearby. If it could not, it should’ve known Alex was coming.
Alex could not tell whether the creature was preparing something important and couldn’t pay attention to him, or whether this was simply a trap designed to make them lower their guard, but there was no time to think about it.
Alex released the elastic mana thread.
The iron projectile shot forward, and almost at the same instant, Alex released the compressed fire-element mana inside the hollow stump. The fire element destabilized and exploded outward through the opening behind the projectile, producing a violent burst of force that accelerated the iron piece between the lightning rods.
The projectile speed forward.
It moved so quickly that even the physical forces acting against it seemed to become part of its acceleration. The lightning rails continued feeding energy into it while the explosion pushed it forward, and the projectile seemed to tear through the air with a powerful shockwave.
In a fraction of a second, it had crossed half the distance.
None of the giant elite Wild Orcs had even reacted when something suddenly slammed into the projectile. Alex’s felt the pressure coming from the Origin Energy surrounding it, and he immediately understood that another Wild Orc Shaman was present.
The projectile slowed for only a moment. It could not be stopped as easily as a pure mana projectile because it was made of iron, and its physical momentum was enormous. The Origin Energy pressed against it, but the projectile continued moving forward.
Three walls suddenly appeared between the projectile and the Wild Orc leader.
They were earth walls, each positioned at a different point along the projectile’s path. The first wall shattered instantly, followed by the second and then the third, with the iron piece punching through all of them as though they were made from something fragile.
Alex could not be certain, but he thought he saw panic on the Wild Orc leader’s face. At the last possible moment, the leader raised its hand and created a spear before throwing it directly at the incoming projectile. The collision happened almost immediately afterward, and the iron projectile exploded.
The explosion struck the Wild Orc leader with enough force to throw its body away from the top of the building. The creature disappeared over the edge, falling somewhere below, while Alex and Roan stood frozen for a brief moment.
They had expected the attack to injure the leader at most, especially after seeing it resist the projectile with Origin Energy and multiple earth walls. Instead, Alex had completely overpowered it with a single attack.
Then the Wild Orcs roared. The sound snapped both of them out of their shock.
"Let’s move," Alex said, and Roan immediately followed as they broke into a sprint toward the only building still standing in the middle of the ruined area, Patrick High School.
