They had barely covered any distance when the nearest elite Wild Orc charged toward them. It reached them almost instantly, and the giant club in its hands rose above its body.

The Wild Orc was roughly as tall as a six-floor building, while the enormous weapon it carried reached nearly half its height, making the sight frightening. But neither Alex nor Roan flinched.

Alex had already begun preparing another projectile while the first one was still flying toward the leader. He completed the new iron projectile and launched it upward through the mana railgun just as the Wild Orc swung its club toward them.

The Wild Orc reacted quickly and struck the projectile with its enormous weapon.

The explosion occurred immediately, and the force pushed the club backward, causing the massive Wild Orc to stumble slightly. It made a strange sound, seemingly unable to understand how something so small had managed to overpower its strength.

Before it could recover, Alex created a Fire Bullet. The spell shot forward and punched cleanly through the Wild Orc’s head, killing it instantly. The giant body began falling backward as Roan continued running toward the Patrick High School, and Alex immediately dashed onto the falling corpse, using its massive body as a temporary platform.

He was already forming another railgun projectile as he moved. The lightning rods remained floating near him, and Alex quickly placed the iron projectile between them.

The ’mana railgun’ was powerful and had excellent penetration, which made it useful against the heavily armed elite Wild Orcs. If one of the projectiles struck their clubs, the force was strong enough to push the weapons backward, but the spell required a great deal of concentration, time, and mana.

Fire Bullets were much faster to prepare and launch, and they still carried enough power to kill the Wild Orcs if they struck a vital area. However, an exploding Fire Bullet would not necessarily stop a massive club, so mana railgun was needed for the clubs.

Alex reached the shoulder of the falling giant in a split second and fired the new iron projectile. The shot moved along the lightning rods, but the second Wild Orc had already reached their position and suddenly moved with surprising speed, twisting its body to avoid the projectile before swinging its enormous club toward Alex.

’It was buffed,’ Alex understood, seeing its sudden speed.

Unlike the previous Wild Orcs, this one did not hesitate to attack because its dead ally was in the way. The club came down with enough force to crush both Alex and the corpse beneath it.

Alex crouched and jumped. The massive club passed beneath him and struck the falling corpse instead. The impact caused the giant body to jerk sideways, but Alex was already forming another mana railgun projectile while he was still in the air.

He completed the projectile and fired it toward the third Wild Orc. This time, the target could not react quickly enough, and the iron projectile punched through its neck before continuing forward and striking the fourth Wild Orc directly in the chest.

The fourth Wild Orc grunted as the impact made it stumble backward. Alex did not wait to see whether it had been seriously injured because he had already begun to fall towards the second Wild Orc’s extended club.

He landed on it. Mana Threads immediately emerged from the sole of his foot. They could not burrow into the metal like they could with ordinary surfaces, but the hardened threads could latch onto the club like small anchors, holding onto its surface while Alex maintained his balance.

Alex instantly dashed forward.

Roan had already covered nearly half the distance toward Patrick High School, and all the remaining Wild Orcs were now paying attention to Alex. They had clearly recognized him as the bigger threat.

The second Wild Orc swung its free palm toward Alex. Alex poured more mana into his soul, strengthening his Will through the Soul Reinforcement Spell, and his control over his mana immediately became sharper.

With it, he poured more mana into his brain and also empowered his Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. The world seemed to disappear around him as the pain from his injuries was pushed into the background, leaving only his objective and the enemies standing between him and Patrick High School.

Alex’s speed increased. He moved forward as the Wild Orc’s palm slammed down behind him and struck the club instead. Alex immediately raised his hand and fired a Fire Bullet.

The spell entered through the Wild Orc’s open mouth and punched through its head before the creature could react. At such a short distance, there was simply not enough time for it to dodge, even if it was buffed.

Alex’s body continued moving forward, but then he heard the screams. They were human screams, painful and disorganized, coming from somewhere beyond the walls surrounding Patrick High School. Alex looked toward the school from the shoulders of the falling Wild Orc and finally saw what had been hidden from them before.

Countless humans were packed tightly together inside the school’s grounds and the open areas surrounding the buildings. They were so tightly congested that Alex could barely see the ground between them, and although he could not make out their individual expressions from this distance, the screams told him enough.

Many of them had probably already been trampled or seriously injured. The screams became louder as Roan entered the school premises. Alex’s attention shifted back to the fight just as the corpse finally hit the ground with him still standing on top of it.

The fall was enormous because the Wild Orc was almost as tall as a six-floor building, but its flesh absorbed much of the impact and prevented Alex from suffering the full force of the landing. He barely had time to recover before a giant club swung toward him from the fifth Wild Orc.

Alex fired a Fire Bullet at its knees while simultaneously dashing sideways and jumping down from the corpse. The Fire Bullet destroyed one of its knees, causing the giant to lose its balance, while its club continued forward and slammed into the fallen Wild Orc.

A disgusting sound followed as the enormous weapon smashed into the corpse. The shockwave nearly threw Alex off his feet, but hardened mana threads extended from the sole of his shoe and anchored him firmly to the ground.

Alex immediately raised his hand and fired another Fire Bullet. The spell punched through the falling Wild Orc’s head, and Alex turned his face away while raising his arms to protect himself from the remaining shockwaves as the giant body crashed down.

Then it happened.

The enormous blue cross in the sky shuddered.

Alex’s instincts screamed danger, and every part of his body told him that something had changed. He did not understand what was happening, but he immediately began forming another projectile for his mana railgun.

A giant roar suddenly came from the blue tear.

The sound seemed to come from the sky itself, and Alex finally looked up. Two figures fell from the enormous opening, and both were Wild Orcs roughly the size of a single floor of a building.

They wore robes and carried wands, and their appearance was similar to the Wild Orc leader Alex had just knocked from the roof. Alex’s mind immediately registered danger as he finally understood what the blue cross really was.

It was a portal.
