The portal was likely connected to the place where the Wild Orc leader’s tribe lived. The monster intended to use it to bring his forces to Earth, allowing them to invade and dominate the planet.

Alex had finally understood that the Wild Orc leader was using the captured humans for some purpose connected to completing the portal, and the appearance of the two robed Wild Orcs only confirmed that the process was reaching another stage.

One of the Wild Orc mages looked down and continued falling toward the school, while the other turned its attention toward Alex. A glowing white star-shaped object suddenly appeared beneath the second Wild Orc mage’s feet, with flames bursting from the sides of its blades as it began spinning rapidly.

The Wild Orc mage floated above the spinning object, using it to remain in the air. It raised its wand and began forming a flaming spear, clearly preparing to attack Alex while keeping itself far enough away that his close-range attacks would be difficult to use.

Alex did not look at it, because his attention remained fixed on the other Wild Orc mage that was falling toward Patrick High School. The Wild Orc leader was clearly a mage as well, and if this new mage reached it, the two could work together and potentially accelerate the process of forming the portal.

Alex immediately fired the railgun. The projectile shot forward with terrifying speed. The falling Wild Orc mage only had a split second to turn its head before the iron projectile reached it and punched directly through its head.

The creature’s body continued falling for a short distance before disappearing behind the school walls. At almost the same moment, the flaming spear created by the flying Wild Orc mage reached Alex, but fortunately, its aim was poor, probably because it was still flying and had difficulty controlling its body while preparing the spell. The spear struck the ground several dozen meters in front of Alex.

Then it exploded. Flames erupted outward and spread across the area with tremendous force. Alex knew there was no time to retreat, so he immediately created layers of mana around his body, hardening them into something resembling armor just before the flames reached him. His consciousness went black. When Alex regained consciousness, he was staring at the sky. He could not feel most of his body, and his throat felt as though it had been burned from the inside. He suddenly began coughing, and blood came up with the cough, with some of it blocking his windpipe.

Alex used hardened mana to force the blood out before immediately beginning emergency treatment on his body, supporting damaged bones and organs with hardened mana.

The attack had reopened many of his previous wounds because he had lost control of his mana when he blacked out. Pain hammered through his mind, and he could hear almost nothing except a constant ringing in his ears.

Alex slowly turned his body and pushed himself up with one elbow. His movements were difficult, but after several attempts, he managed to raise his upper body enough to look around.

The first thing he saw was the giant blue cross in the sky. Its size had doubled, and Alex stared at it for a moment before noticing blurry figures moving behind the opening. He could make out the legs of several enormous Wild Orcs, but their bodies were too obscured by the blue space to see clearly.

Then he saw another figure. This one was much smaller, roughly the size of a human. Alex’s instincts immediately screamed danger the moment he saw it. He forced himself to look away from the portal and examined the battlefield instead. Of the eight Wild Orcs that had originally been patrolling the area, Alex had killed three and seriously injured a fourth, while another had suffered severe damage to its legs from the previous mage’s attack and was now screaming nearby.

The remaining three elite Wild Orcs were surrounding him from a distance. They did not immediately attack, instead watching Alex carefully while also keeping their attention on the flying Wild Orc mage, as though they had realized that charging him without thinking could get them killed in the crossfire.

Above them, the flying Wild Orc mage finished forming another flaming spear and aimed it at Alex before firing. Alex tried to create another railgun projectile, but his concentration was too weak, and the pain continued interfering with his thoughts.

Even forming the mana structure he had used repeatedly before was becoming difficult. If he couldn’t fight back, he had to dodge. He tried to stand so that he could move away from the impact area, but his legs buckled and he fell back to the ground just as the flaming spear struck several dozen meters away.

Once again, the explosion spread across the battlefield, and the flames reached him before he could escape. The force threw Alex through the air, but this time, he did not lose consciousness. He felt every bit of the pain as he rolled across the ground, his body burning while his damaged bones and organs struggled to endure the attack.

Yet despite everything, his mind remained calm because the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell was suppressing everything that was not directly related to survival and victory.

Alex was thinking solely about winning. His mind worked through countless possibilities, and he decided to take a gamble.

He shut down his sense of hearing, touch, and taste, removing those sensations from his mind so that he could focus more of his remaining concentration on the battle. Then he stopped using Blood Vitalization and Mana Sense, which returned even more of his mental focus.

He also stopped maintaining the Mana Threads beneath the soles of his feet. Finally, Alex stopped supporting his damaged organs with hardened mana.

There was no reason to waste his concentration on preserving his body if he could not win the battle. Before his organs completely failed, he would either defeat the enemies or die, so keeping himself alive for a few more moments was meaningless if it prevented him from using his full strength.

Everything he had done until now had consumed some portion of his concentration. Now he removed all of it.

It felt as though he had been carrying heavy metal weights on every part of his body without realizing it. When those weights disappeared, Alex suddenly felt much lighter, and his remaining mental focus became far clearer.

Two Fire Bullets instantly formed in the air. Their speed of creation was far faster than before.
