They flew forward at tremendous speed and met the incoming flaming spear before it could reach Alex. One of the Fire Bullets collided directly with the spear, causing both spells to explode, and the resulting heatwave swept across the battlefield and struck Alex as he slowly pushed himself back onto his feet. He could still feel the burning across his body, but he tried to ignore it and kept his attention on the flying Wild Orc Mage.
The second Fire Bullet reached the creature a moment later. A sphere of solid flames suddenly formed around the Wild Orc Mage, protecting it from the projectile and the explosion that followed.
The sphere remained in place until the explosion and shockwaves weakened, after which it disappeared. The Wild Orc Mage was already forming another flaming spear, and although Alex could not see its expression clearly from this distance, he was certain the creature was annoyed that his attack had reached it.
This time, the spear was noticeably larger and contained more Origin Energy. Alex responded by creating two stronger Fire Bullets of his own, while the surrounding Wild Orcs continued to stay out of the fight because they were clearly worried about becoming collateral damage.
The Wild Orc Mage fired first. The flaming spear shot toward Alex faster than before, forcing him to react quickly. It met him much closer this time, and the resulting explosion nearly threw him off his feet, but Alex braced himself and managed to remain standing.
At almost the same moment, the second Fire Bullet reached the Wild Orc Mage. Once again, the creature created a sphere of solid flames around itself, blocking the attack and absorbing the explosion.
The sphere eventually dissolved. Alex could not see the monster’s face, but he was almost certain it was even more annoyed than before, and he immediately began preparing another pair of Fire Bullets while watching the creature form another flaming spear.
Both sides fired again. This time, the explosion happened roughly in the center between them instead of near Alex. The shockwaves spread across the battlefield, but neither attack caused any serious damage.
The corner of Alex’s lips lifted slightly. His gamble was starting to pay off.
The Wild Orc Mage, despite using Origin Energy, still had to possess a limited amount of energy. It could not continue using powerful spells forever, just as Ascendants could not endlessly use their abilities without eventually exhausting their reserves.
The creature had already used several powerful flaming spears and multiple solid-flame shields while also maintaining its strange method of flight. All of those abilities were consuming Origin Energy, and the combined cost had to be leaving a noticeable mark on its reserves.
Alex was different. All of his stat points had been placed into Mana, and he had consumed an S Rank Mana Fruit, giving him a much larger reserve than most people would have at his level. He was injured badly, but as long as he could continue controlling his mana, he could keep fighting longer than the Wild Orc Mage probably expected.
Both of them fired again. This time, the explosion occurred closer to the Wild Orc Mage. The creature immediately formed another sphere of solid flames around itself, once again using the shield to block the second Fire Bullet.
As the sphere dissolved, it began forming another flaming sphere almost immediately. Alex watched carefully, realizing that the monster could have repositioned itself, called the other Wild Orcs for help, or changed its attack pattern, but it did none of those things.
It was either angry enough to keep trying to defeat Alex on its own, or it was deliberately buying time for something else. It did not matter.
Alex would finish the battle with his next move. He gathered his remaining concentration and formed three Fire Bullets. Each one was stronger than the previous spells, and maintaining all three at once required more control, but Alex did not hesitate.
The Wild Orc Mage flinched when it noticed the third Fire Bullet. It immediately fired its flaming spear, which was faster and more powerful than any of the previous ones.
Alex fired all three Fire Bullets in response, sending them directly toward the incoming attack. The first Fire Bullet collided with the flaming spear, and the resulting explosion tore the spear apart.
The remaining force continued toward Alex. He braced himself as the shockwaves struck his body, ignoring the burning sensation while keeping his eyes on the Wild Orc Mage.
Only one Fire Bullet had been stopped, and the other two continued toward the target. The Wild Orc Mage formed another sphere of solid flames around itself. However, it could not stop the other two Fire Bullets, and both projectiles struck the sphere almost simultaneously.
The sphere shook violently. The combined explosions overwhelmed the shield before it could fully absorb their power. The Wild Orc Mage was thrown backward as the sphere exploded around it.
For a moment, the creature disappeared behind the flames. Alex did not wait to find out whether it was still alive. He immediately fired another Fire Bullet into the flames, and the spell punched through the Wild Orc Mage’s head.
The creature stopped moving. Alex finally turned toward Patrick High School and started running. The surrounding Wild Orcs immediately reacted, and one of them suddenly threw its enormous club toward him.
Alex poured more mana into his soul, and used the increased Will to strengthen his spells. His speed increased explosively, narrowly dodging the weapon as it passed beside him. The club struck the ground behind him, and the resulting shockwave caught Alex and threw him forward. He had stopped maintaining the Mana Threads beneath his feet, so he had no way to anchor himself against the force and was carried several meters through the air. Alex did not care, twisting his body while flying before landing on his feet and immediately continuing his run.
Two giant Wild Orcs were already moving toward him, their massive bodies blocking his path. Alex fired two Fire Bullets toward their knees.
The Wild Orcs reacted quickly and raised their clubs to block the attacks. The Fire Bullets exploded against the weapons, forcing both creatures to stop their momentum for a brief moment. That was enough.
Alex dashed between them and rushed through the entrance of Patrick High School. Behind him, the Wild Orcs recovered and began pursuing him, but Alex was already inside the school grounds.
