SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage

Chapter 189: Your Species Level Has Reached...

The people around Alex froze as soon as they heard the voice. He saw several people tighten their grips around their weapons, while others looked toward the sky with tense expressions.

No one knew what the strange man was about to do, and after everything that had happened since the Apocalypse began, there was little reason to assume that anything involving the System would be harmless.

The voice continued, sounding as though it were coming from somewhere nearby rather than from the figure floating high above them. "I’m setting up a few things for the Assessment. There are only three minutes left before it begins, so I hope you won’t cause me any problems. Yes, I’m talking about the missiles that are currently being aimed at me. They can’t do anything to me either way, so—"

Before he could finish, Alex noticed something moving on the horizon. A missile appeared in the distance and rapidly approached the strange man in the sky, causing Alex’s grip around his wand to tighten as he realized that the military had already decided to take action.

He had no idea from where it came from, but judging from its speed and size, it was clearly not an ordinary missile. Then something happened that Alex knew he would remember for the rest of his life.

The man in the sky sighed before casually raising one hand. He waved it once, and the missile disintegrated.

Alex did not know much about missiles, but his instincts were screaming at him that the weapon had been extremely dangerous. The destructive power contained within it felt greater than that of dozens of Flame Spears used by the Wild Orc Mage combined, yet all of that power had simply vanished because of a casual movement of the man’s hand.

Alex felt chills run down his spine, but he forced himself to remain calm. He immediately looked down at his phone and opened Dwitter because he wanted to see whether the same thing had happened elsewhere.

As expected, countless videos had already appeared, showing different countries launching missiles toward the strange figure in the sky above them. The result was always the same, regardless of where the attack came from, because the missiles simply disintegrated after the man waved his hand.

There was no explosion, no clash, and no visible defense. They vanished as though they had been erased from existence, and Alex stared at the screen for several seconds before slowly lowering his phone.

His heart began beating faster, and adrenaline rushed through his body. For the first time in a while, Alex felt genuine fear toward another living being, but fear was only a small part of what he was feeling.

Most of it was excitement.

Alex wanted that kind of power. He wanted to become strong enough that an attack from the military forces of the entire world could be stopped with nothing more than a casual wave of his hand.

His heart was beating so loudly that for a moment he could barely hear the people around him, while countless questions appeared in his mind. What level was this man, what kind of Class did he have, and how long would it take Alex to reach that level?

He had known that the System would allow people to become stronger, but seeing this level of power with his own eyes was completely different. Alex wanted to know everything about the man, but he knew that now was not the time to lose himself in curiosity.

He took several deep breaths and slowly calmed himself. A few moments later, Alex noticed Roan and the others approaching from the side.

Roan walked directly toward him and took several objects out of his inventory before handing them over.

"Here. You should absorb these quickly," Roan said.

Alex accepted the Gene Potentials and stored the ones from the Low-rank species in his inventory before immediately absorbing those from the Mid-rank species. The amount of EXP required for each level increased exponentially, so he had only hoped that the three Gene Potentials would be enough to push him to Level 8.

The result was much better than he expected.

[Your Species Level has increased. Level 6 → Level 9.]

[2 stat points gained.]

[2 stat points gained.]

[2 stat points gained.]

Alex was pleasantly surprised by the notifications. It seemed that the Level 12 Gene Potential he had obtained from the Wild Orc Leader had contained a considerable amount of EXP, allowing the combined Gene Potentials to push him much further than expected.

He did not hesitate before putting all six stat points into Mana.

[Mana: 35 → 41]

The mana inside his heart immediately increased, filling the space he had lost during his previous battles. Alex could feel the difference clearly, but he continued using Blood Vitalization to prevent the increased amount of mana from putting too much pressure on his heart.

At the same time, he continued practicing Elastic Thread Spell. He did not know what the Assessment would require from them, so the more prepared he was, the better, and every second he could spend improving himself was worth using.

Then several a System notification appeared in front of him.

[Countdown finished. Assessment will now begin.]

The strange man in the sky spoke again, and his voice could still be heard clearly by everyone despite the enormous distance between them. "Greetings, being of Planet Earth. I’m Xithali O Provi, the one who will be responsible for your planet’s first Assessment."

"I’m sure many of you are wondering what an Assessment is and are probably afraid of what is about to happen, but don’t worry. It’s very simple."

Xithali’s voice was gentle, but nobody relaxed. Everyone had already learned that anything introduced by the System could bring danger along with it, and the man’s casual destruction of the missiles had only made the situation more unsettling.

Xithali continued speaking. "The first Assessment will only check one thing: the number of survivors in each Difficulty. If you pass, there will be rewards, with the top performer of the passed Difficulty receiving a precious reward. If you fail the Assessment, however, you will still get what I consider a reward. Of course, you may not think of it as a reward."

Xithali chuckled at his own words.
