After several minutes, the process was complete. Alex opened his eyes and smiled faintly because he had guessed correctly. Just like Advanced Battle Instinct Spell required him to understand Will and how to use it, Superior Body Reinforcement Spell also required Will, although it used it in a completely different way.
The way Will was applied to the body through this spell was extremely complicated. If Alex had tried to discover the method through experimentation alone, he estimated that it would have taken him months, perhaps even longer. Having the Talent provide the knowledge had saved him a huge amount of time.
"Here," Ava said from beside him as she held out several apple slices.
Alex raised his hand to take them, but the movement caused pain to spread through his body, making him wince slightly. Ava noticed immediately.
"Let me feed you," she said.
Alex looked at her for a moment before nodding. While Ava fed him the apple slices, Alex continued practicing Mana Cable and Elastic Thread because he did not want to waste even a few minutes with the Assessment getting closer.
He carefully controlled the mana inside his body and continued repeating the same movements with both spells. After several attempts, the System notification he had been waiting for finally appeared.
[Mana Cable Spell has leveled up. Level 9 → Level 10]
[Mana Cable Spell has reached Max level.]
[Mana Cable Spell can now be evolved. Choose an Evolution: Advanced Mana Cable Spell, Mana Tendon Spell, Mana Rope Spell, Mana Hook Spell, Mana Circuit Spell.]
Alex glanced through the evolution options again. He had already planned to fuse Mana Cable Spell with Elastic Thread Spell, so he had no intention of choosing an evolution for Mana Cable, but two of the names still caught his attention.
The first was Mana Tendon Spell. Alex could already imagine what would happen if the spell was developed far enough, because it would probably allow him to create tendons or even muscles using mana. He did not want the spell for himself, though, since his physical strength came from reinforcing his natural muscles with mana, and he did not know whether the same boost would work properly on muscles created entirely from mana.
If it did not, replacing his natural muscles with mana-made ones would actually make him weaker. However, the spell could be extremely useful for other people, especially those who had lost the use of their limbs.
Alex immediately thought about handicapped people who could potentially use something like this. He already knew that he could create runes capable of converting ordinary mana into elemental mana, so perhaps it was also possible to create a rune that activated a spell when mana was supplied to it. If that worked, he could potentially create something that allowed people without functioning limbs to move again.
Alex thought about it for a while before shaking his head. He was getting ahead of himself because he had not even obtained his Runesmith Class yet, let alone learned how to create runes capable of activating spells. Still, he decided that he would try to learn Mana Tendon Spell himself when he had enough time because the challenge of figuring it out sounded interesting, and it would probably help many people.
The second spell that caught his attention was Mana Circuit Spell. That one was much easier to understand because its appearance was clearly related to the experiments he had already been conducting with mana cables. However, Alex had already learned the spell himself, so there was no reason to waste a spell slot on something he could obtain through his own efforts.
Elastic Thread Spell was already extremely close to Level 10, and once both spells reached their maximum level, he could attempt to fuse them into something stronger. For Mana Circuit Spell, he could simply learn it himself after freeing up a spell slot.
With his decision made, Alex continued eating the apple slices while practicing Elastic Thread Spell. He focused on controlling the mana carefully and repeated the same process again and again, trying to push the spell closer to its next level while Ava continued feeding him.
After some time, Alex remembered something and turned toward her. "Where are the Gene Potentials from the Mid-rank species I took down?"
"They’re with Roan He was the only one who had an inventory, and someone your friends knew, so he is keeping them for now," Ava answered.
Alex nodded, thinking that it made sense. Before he could say anything else, a few murmurs came from outside, and although they were quiet at first, the noise continued growing until more voices could be heard clearly.
Alex and Ava both looked toward the window.
"I’ll check what is happening," Ava said before walking over, and after looking down at the ground for a moment, she suddenly raised her head toward the sky and froze.
Alex immediately became alert. Had something happened to the portal above the school? He was about to pour mana into his body so that he could move quickly if necessary when the door suddenly burst open, and Tina and Kevin entered the room almost together, both looking toward him with serious expressions.
"There is something in the sky. You need to see this," the two of them said at almost the same time.
Alex did not waste time asking questions. He poured mana into his body, reinforced his muscles, and stood up before removing the medical cables connected to him. Ava seemed like she wanted to stop him, but Alex had already left the room.
"With me," Alex said as he moved toward the exit.
The group moved quickly through the building and soon reached the outside. As soon as people noticed Alex, they began moving aside and clearing a path for him, but Alex paid little attention to them as he looked toward the sky.
His expression slowly became serious.
A humanoid figure was floating high above them. At first glance, it looked almost completely human, wearing a black suit with a white shirt, black pants, and a tie, but it had no hair and no face. Its head looked like a smooth mannequin’s head, except for the mouth that was clearly visible on it.
The figure was extremely far away, yet Alex could see it as clearly as if it were standing directly in front of him. From the reactions around him, everyone else seemed to have the same ability.
"Did it come out of the portal?" Alex asked.
"No. It appeared suddenly out of thin air," Robert answered as he arrived with the others.
Alex frowned. Other than portals, the other were appearing recently had always come through small cracks that appeared in random locations before eventually disappearing. This being was different because something had simply appeared in the sky without any visible source.
Alex remembered only one other being that had appeared in a similar manner.
The Guide that he met at the beginning in the Land of Origin.
Alex glanced at Robert before asking, "How are you feeling?"
"I’m doing well, thanks to Tina and Charlotta," Robert replied with a bitter smile.
Alex nodded. He was glad to see that Robert had recovered enough to stand there, but his attention quickly returned to the strange figure above them. He took out his phone and opened Dwitter because he needed to check something.
As expected, his feed was already filled with posts about the strange man in the sky. People from different countries were posting pictures and videos, and the comments made one thing clear: everyone could see it.
It did not matter where they were in the world. The figure was visible to everyone as though it were floating directly above them, and Alex could not understand how such a thing was possible.
’Strange,’ Alex thought as he stared at the figure.
The man had not moved at all since appearing, but then its mouth suddenly opened. The voice that followed was clear enough for everyone around Alex to hear.
"Can you hear me, humans?"
The people around Alex froze as soon as they heard the voice. He saw several people tighten their grips around their weapons, while others looked toward the sky with tense expressions.
