Burst Speed Spell was the easiest one to understand. It was clearly meant to increase his speed, and Alex guessed that it would probably allow him to release a sudden burst of speed at the beginning of his movement.

The spell could be very useful in battle because being able to suddenly close the distance between himself and a monster would allow him to catch them off guard, and Alex could probably use the knowledge from the spell to understand his muscles better and increase the speed and power behind his punches.

Alex moved on to the next option, Internal Support Spell. He could already guess where this spell had come from because he had been using his mana in a similar way during his previous battles. Whenever his bones broke or his organs were damaged, Alex would use his mana to support the injured parts of his body so that he could continue fighting, and it had saved his life more than once.

Internal Support Spell would probably teach him a much better method of doing the same thing. If he learned it, System would assist him, and he would no longer have to manually maintain every damaged part of his body while fighting, which would reduce the burden on his mind and allow him to focus more on his other spells. That made the spell very useful.

The Partial Body Armor Spell was also difficult to ignore. Alex had only been hit by the Wild Orcs once, and even then, he had managed to make the attack land before the monster could put its full strength behind it. The result had still been terrifying, as he had been sent through dozens of floors of the building and had nearly died from that single attack.

Alex had survived because of luck, and the fact that the attack had not reached its full power. Even now, with his mana control having improved considerably, Alex could not confidently say that he would survive if the same thing happened again. It was not that he considered himself weak; the problem was simply that some attacks were simply too powerful.

A proper armor would help against those attacks. The Wild Orc was not the only problem either, because the Mantis had been dangerous due to its sharp attacks, while the Flame Spear had possessed enough destructive power to kill him if it had hit accurately. Having something protecting his body would be extremely useful against all of them.

Alex began eliminating the options one by one.

Burst Speed Spell was the first to go. There was no doubt that the spell was powerful, and he could imagine many ways of using it, but he had other methods of increasing his speed while his current weaknesses were more important. It was a good spell, just not the one he needed most right now.

Partial Body Armor Spell was the second. The reason was simple: Alex could probably learn something similar by himself. He already understood the basic concept of using mana to harden something, and his mana-hardened javelin was currently the limit of what he could create without putting too much pressure on his concentration and mana pool.

Creating an entire layer of armor around his body would require much more mana, and maintaining it while fighting would be even more difficult. Until his mana pool and control improved further, the spell would probably be difficult for him to use properly.

That left three choices: Superior Body Reinforcement Spell, Mana Heart Reinforcement Spell, and Internal Support Spell. Alex considered Internal Support Spell for a little longer before removing it from his choices because there was one problem with it.

If he obtained the spell, the System would most likely assist him. Depending on System was going against the logic of training his spells on his own. System’s assistance was useful because it removed the burden from his mind, but it was just a sweet poison. Moreover, choosing it also meant that Alex would be gaining a defensive ability instead of improving his overall combat power.

Until now, almost every important choice he had made had been related to killing monsters faster. That was how he had survived. Of course, Alex did not consider Internal Support Spell useless, and if there had been no better option, he would have chosen it without hesitation, especially since he had already experienced how difficult it was to fight while keeping his damaged body together.

But there were still two options left.

Alex thought carefully about them. Mana Heart Reinforcement Spell was tempting because his mana heart was becoming more strained as his mana pool continued to grow, and strengthening it could potentially allow him to store and handle much more mana.

However, Alex already had Blood Vitalization Spell. For the time being, that spell could help him deal with the problem of his growing mana pool, and later, after he obtained his Runesmith Class, he could also create more runes and use them to use his mana constantly. That meant the problem that Mana Heart Reinforcement Spell was supposed to solve could eventually be handled through other methods.

Superior Body Reinforcement Spell was different.

Alex could feel something reacting inside him whenever he considered the spell. It was the same strange feeling he had experienced before when he encountered abilities that were closely related to fundamentals of magic. His SSS-rank Origin Spell Physique had helped him understand several spells simply from their names, and it had also guided him toward Will and helped him understand the connection between Will and runes.

Alex trusted that instinct. There was probably something important hidden inside Superior Body Reinforcement Spell that his Physique wanted him to understand, so after considering everything, Alex finally made his decision.

[Superior Body Reinforcement Spell learned.]

[Superior Body Reinforcement Spell, D Rank, Level 1]

[How are you still alive? Even cockroaches will die after everything you went through.]

[Effect: Allows you to greatly boost all functions of the body.]

Alex closed his eyes and focused on the knowledge entering his mind. The information was complicated, but unlike some of the other spells he had learned, it did not feel completely unfamiliar. There was a certain principle behind the spell that Alex could understand once he connected it with what he already knew about Will.
