Moon nodded.

"I can use the bow. I’m not going to claim to be exceptional at it. Sword work has been my primary focus." Moon was naturally confident in his archery skills, because he had a skill related to the bow.

Bullseye.

Although it wasn’t even a rare skill, it still taught him the basics of Archery, and increased his accuracy. Besides, he could always copy an archer’s skills.

Sierra’s smile widened.

"That’s more than most fighters your age can say. Most Evolvers pick one weapon related to their class and never touch another. It’s a shame. Cross-weapon fluency used to be a baseline expectation, and it produced better fighters overall."

She leaned forward slightly.

"If you’re interested. Once your recovery is complete, you can drop by my compound. I could give you a few pointers on the bow, and how my elemental arrows work. Whatever you’d find useful."

Moon’s eyes lit up.

The composed young man across from her suddenly sprung forward, "Really?"

Sierra watched his eager expression with a small, delighted smile.

"Yes. Really. Consider it a small thanks for what Tom’s stubbornness didn’t quite let me express earlier. Saving an Ascedner’s life is not a favor that gets repaid with a dinner. It gets repaid with something meaningful. And my experience with the bow is one of the few things I have that I can actually give."

Moon exhaled slowly, still smiling.

"I would be honored."

"Good. My compound is in the eastern highlands. About an hour away through an orbital ride. Tom knows the place, when you’re ready, come stay for a few days. Bring anything you want to work on. The compound has a range, a beast forest for live practice, and enough space that we can be as loud as we want without disturbing the neighbors."

Internally, Moon shouted once more, ’Phrasing! Phrasing matters!’

"I’ll be there."

Sierra nodded once, satisfied.

Tom, watching from the side, grinned and leaned back in his chair. His mentee had just picked up a personal training arrangement with an Ascender who very rarely offered anyone anything of the kind.

The kid was becoming expensive to keep up with.

Tom couldn’t have been happier about it.

"Before you come, make sure you have two arms." Sierra said as she rose from her chair.

Moon nodded, his smile returning.

"I’ll make sure to be complete before I arrive."

"Good."

Sierra picked up her longbow from beside the chair and gave Tom a brief nod of farewell. Tom rose from his own seat to walk her toward the door. Their conversation moved into quieter tones as they moved through the corridor, discussing something Moon couldn’t quite catch. He didn’t try to eavesdrop. Whatever business the two of them had to conclude wasn’t his to know.

A few minutes later, Tom returned to the lounge.

He settled back into his chair with a satisfied grin.

"Stacey will come by tomorrow to reattach your arm."

Moon nodded gratefully.

"Thank you."

"Don’t thank me. Thank her. She’s been holding the schedule open for you since you woke up. You’ll be back to having two arms by tomorrow evening."

Moon exhaled slowly.

He had been carrying the missing arm for over a week now. And whilst he managed to adjust, it was still different from actually recovering the limb.

He turned to Tom.

"How is Kael?"

He hadn’t seen the redhead since they had separated at the gate. Kael had gone through the portal ahead of him. Moon had followed a moment later. Beyond that, Moon didn’t know where Kael had ended up or what he had been doing during the week Moon had been unconscious.

Tom smiled.

"The kid is still in the Second Sanctuary. He’s grinding."

"He’s been running hunt after hunt in the outer regions of the base he is in, pushing himself constantly. His progression has accelerated significantly. I hear updates through those around him every few days, and without fail, he is always getting stronger."

Moon smiled.

"That’s good."

Kael was really talented. And most importantly, he was a great friend to have. Moon could see envy, jealousy, and hatred in the eyes of those he was stronger than. But Kael? He saw admiration, loyalty and drive.

Moon respected that greatly.

He rose from his chair.

"Well. I’ll leave you to your paperwork, old man."

"You little... brat."

Tom laughed as Moon disappeared down the corridor.

Once Moon was gone, Tom’s laughter faded.

He leaned back in his chair, looking at the empty doorway where Moon had just been.

’He’s a good motivation for Kael.’

His heart was filled with the pride of a father watching two young men push each other toward heights neither would have reached alone.

Kael had never had a real peer. Since he was very young, he had been the genius of every class he entered. Every academy he attended had labeled him as the top student before the end of the first semester.

Every private tutor Tom had brought in had eventually admitted that Kael had surpassed them in one form or another. Even the other geniuses Kael had crossed paths with, at worst, his equals. Never his superiors.

He had spent his entire life looking around and finding nobody to look up to at his own age.

Then he had met Moon.

His training intensified and his goals became larger than ever.

Moon had been a reason in that change.

Not through anything Moon had said or done deliberately. Simply by existing at the level he existed at, and being close enough to Kael to be visible.

Tom’s grin softened.

’This kid is going to change so many things...’

He took a slow sip of his tea before heading towards his office to do, the thing he hated the most, paperwork.

Meanwhile, within the Second Sanctuary, a young blue-skinned girl stood amid the fallen bodies of countless beasts, a bow still gripped in her hand.

Her chest rose and fell in quick, ragged breaths.

Despite the exhaustion weighing on her limbs and the blood staining her clothes, a bright smile spread across her face.

"Finally..." she murmured, her eyes gleaming. "Another skill."
