~Whoosh~

Moon’s first shot was an ordinary nock and release. He wanted a baseline before he activated any skills. The arrow flew true and struck the dummy in the chest.

The number climbed for a few seconds before stopping.

<25,250>

"Not bad..."

Moon nocked another arrow, this time putting more power into the attack.

The arrow flew like a rocket before embedding itself into the chest of the

He activated the first skill.

Deadeye.

[Deadeye]

[Proficiency: 0%]

[Details: Fires an explosive arrow that deals critical damage. +150% Damage. +100% Critical Damage]

A visible layer of mana wrapped around the arrowhead. His targeting focus sharpened, his vision narrowing subtly on the specific point he wanted the arrow to hit.

He released.

~Whoosh~

The arrow tore across the lane at nearly twice the speed of his baseline shot. It struck the target at the center point and detonated on impact.

A concussive burst rippled outward through the dummy. The dummy held, because it was rated for skill impacts, but the strike zone showed a visible dent where the arrow had punched through.

Moon lowered the bow and studied the impact.

"Not bad for a rare skill."

The number rose to the largest number Moon had seen so far.

<39,150>

Moon nodded his head in appreciation of the attack damage. It was a pretty good number.

The damage bonuses were average for a Rare-tier skill. Nothing groundbreaking.

The skill itself wasn’t flashy, but it did its job, and that was enough.

More importantly, the skill consumed more stamina than mana.

Given that his channels were still finishing their reintegration, the stamina-focused cost profile was ideal. He could practice this skill more freely without worrying about setting back his recovery.

Moon nocked another arrow.

He wanted to bring the proficiency up before he tested the other two.

For the next hour, Moon’s proficiency rose at an astonishing rate.

Within the first ten minutes, he had already reached ten percent. His progression climbed at nearly one percent per minute during the initial burst, which was considered really fast.

By the time an hour had passed, he had crossed the one-third mark.

[Deadeye]

[Proficiency: 34%]

Simply using the skill wasn’t only teaching him the specific mechanics. It was refining his overall archery technique and burning muscle memory into his shoulders, back, fingers, and vision.

Every draw sharpened his form as he kept practicing.

As he entered the third hour of training, the training facility’s door hissed open behind him.

Moon released the arrow he had been holding at full draw. It streaked across the lane and struck the target center. He lowered the bow and turned to see who had come in.

"Selene?"

She stood in the doorway holding two cold drinks in her hands.

Selene smiled at him as she stepped further into the room.

"I was looking for you. I knew you’d be here."

She crossed the room and extended one of the iced-cold drinks toward him. A soft yellow layer at the base, a lighter foam at the top and a pineapple wedge perched on the rim.

"You could use a cold drink. Take a little break. You’re sweating buckets."

Moon glanced down at himself. She was right. His shirt had darkened across the chest and shoulders from three straight hours of continuous practice, and his forehead was damp.

He grabbed the white towel resting on the rack beside him and wiped down his face, his neck, and his hands. Once he was reasonably dry, he set the bow on the rack and accepted the drink from her.

His fingers brushed hers during the exchange.

"Thanks."

"Mhm."

He took a long sip.

The pina colada was perfect.

Cold, creamy and just sweet enough. After three hours of practice, it hit the spot.

Selene watched him with a small, pleased smile.

"So? How is your training going...?" Her eyes drifted past him to the target at the end of his practice lane, before widening considerably.

The counter above the target displayed the impact reading from his last shot.

She blinked twice before shaking her head,

"Never mind. Seems to be going... rather well."

Moon chuckled.

"You think?"

"I think..."

Her lips twitched at the corner. She glanced at him with exasperation, then back at the target, then back at him again.

"This is using a bow...I dare not think of how strong your spells will be."

"Is it my fault that I am a good Archer?"

"I think that number puts the average Archers to shame...and you are a mage."

"Maybe the average archer isn’t training hard enough."

Selene rolled her eyes.

Then she reached up and flicked his forehead lightly with two fingers.

"Don’t be smug."

Moon chuckled.

He set the drink down on the table beside him and turned to face her properly. His hand rose and gently tilted her chin up to stare at him.

"Thanks for the drink, I really needed it."

She met his eyes with a shy expression on her face.

"I-I... you’re welcome."

Internally, Selene’s thoughts were in complete disarray. Moon had been growing bolder with her by the day, and while it was a welcome change, one she secretly loved, it was also unfamiliar territory. Every teasing smile, every casual touch, every stolen moment left her heart racing. She simply didn’t know how to respond.

Her eyes stayed on his for a long moment.

Then she tried to tease back, "You always know what to say."

"I don’t."

"You do."

"I really don’t."

She stepped a little closer.

Her hand rose and rested lightly on the front of his damp shirt. Her fingers curled slightly against the fabric. Her eyes stayed on his.

Moon didn’t move.

The training facility was very quiet.

Then, from somewhere down the corridor outside, a voice called his name. Tom.

"Moon! You in there?"

The moment of affection broke instantly.

Selene’s face flushed bright red and she took a fast step back, her hand dropping from his shirt like she had touched a burning furance.

She turned toward the table and grabbed her own drink, pretending very hard to have been doing something innocent the entire time.

Moon exhaled slowly. His mouth twitched with amusement.

He picked up his drink.

"In here, old man."

Tom walked in a moment later.

He caught the tail end of Selene’s red-face, and Moon’s composed expression.

His grin came in fast but he didn’t comment.
