Before leaving the estate, Moon approached Sierra and gestured toward the B-rank bow he had been using during the day’s training session. "Thank you for letting me use this." He said, before handing it back to her.
"Keep it. It’s yours."
Moon’s brows rose slightly. He hadn’t expected the gesture. The bow was a powerful weapon, and B-rank items weren’t the kind of gifts you handed out casually.
After a moment of silence Moon said, "I won’t be polite about it, then."
The response came out with a small smile.
He wasn’t going to decline Sierra’s generosity. She had taken on the position of a teacher for him today. Her acceptance of Yara as her disciple had already elevated their relationship above the level of ordinary acquaintances. Refusing the bow would have insulted the closeness she had chosen to extend.
’This bow is worth at least ten million dollars. And a significant amount of connections.’
Money alone couldn’t buy a B-rank item. The seller needed to verify the buyer’s power, status, and reputation to ensure the weapon wasn’t being sold on to enemies like the dark organization through a proxy purchase. Sierra’s willingness to hand it over openly represented a level of trust that someone extended only to their inner circles.
What made accepting the gift easier was Sierra’s rank. She was an Ascender. She didn’t say things she wasn’t willing to stand behind. If she had offered the bow, she had already decided it was his.
He stored it carefully in his storage ring.
Sierra nodded in approval, then turned toward Yara and gestured for her to come closer.
Yara approached curiously.
Sierra reached behind her, and a beautiful white bow and matching white quiver appeared in her hands.
Yara’s eyes widened. She had already guessed what was coming.
"Teacher... this..."
"That’s right. This set is yours to keep."
Yara involuntarily shook her head. Her body reacted before her mind could catch up. The aura pouring off the bow and quiver showed her immediately that these weren’t ordinary items. They were incredibly powerful, at a tier she had no business receiving.
"I don’t dare take such a beautiful, expensive set. I don’t deserve it. I haven’t proven myself worthy of such a gift."
Sierra shook her head. "You’ve already proven yourself. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have chosen you as my disciple." Her eyes narrowed slightly. "Besides. Are you going to reject your teacher’s very first request from you?"
Yara’s cheeks flushed. "I-I don’t dare."
Sierra didn’t wait for further hesitation. She strapped the bow across Yara’s back, and settled the quiver at her hip.
"These are yours now. Take good care of them. They survived the Second Sanctuary with me. It’s only right that they’re passed on to you."
Yara’s eyes filled with tears.
Before she could think, she threw her arms around Sierra and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you, teacher. I’ll make you proud. I promise."
Sierra smiled gently and returned the hug, her hand rising to caress Yara’s hair gently.
"I know you will."
They separated after a moment.
Sierra turned toward Selene, who had been standing at the sidelines watching everything with tears building in her own eyes.
Selene viewed Yara as her own little sister. She knew Yara’s backstory. She knew what Yara had survived, how she had been treated, how much of her worth she had been forced to rebuild from scratch.
Watching her hard work and perseverance culminate in an such a beautiful mentor-disciple relationship made Selene’s chest tighten with unselfish joy for her friend.
But underneath the joy, a thought she hated returned, ’Everyone is evolving so quickly. Fulfilling their goals. And I...’
No jealousy occupied her heart. She was too fond of both Yara and Moon to feel that. But being the only one seemingly left behind, unable to reach the goal she had been striving for, made her feel sad about herself in a way she had been trying to push down all day.
"Little Selene." Sierra’s voice broke through her thoughts. "I haven’t forgotten about you either. Come here."
Selene pointed at herself with her index finger, completely stunned.
Sierra had no reason to give her anything. Selene hadn’t been a student today, not officially. She had come along as a friend, and she hadn’t been expecting anything beyond the informal lessons Sierra had shared during the training. Sierra had already done her an enormous favor by teaching her important principles.
Gifting her something on top of that felt like too much.
Her eyes drifted to Moon.
He met her gaze and nodded once. His expression was calm. It said, without words, that she should trust Sierra and accept.
Selene took a slow breath and walked forward.
Sierra held out a small pendant in her palm.
The chain was fine silver, but slightly dark around the edges. The pendant itself was a smooth pale blue stone, cut into an oval shape with runes carved along its edges. Even at rest, it radiated the aura of a very serious artifact.
"During my time as a Surpasser, I participated in many campaigns in the Second Sanctuary. At the time, that included raiding Spirit Pavilions, searching for Spirit Arts, and recovering other treasures for the Association."
Her fingers traced the surface of the pendant as her eyes softened with memory.
"This was the pendant carried by the Pavilion Spirit of an A-Rank pavilion I helped clear. You can check it yourself."
Selene took the pendant carefully. She activated her own appraisal skill, letting the reading resolve across her senses. The confirmation landed a moment later.
Her eyes widened.
"This... this is an A-rank item, I don’t think I can take this. Yara, or Moon are more worthy of it."
Sierra rolled her eyes in exasperation of a woman who had already anticipated this exact protest. She turned her head toward Moon.
"Moon."
Moon stepped forward with a small, composed smile.
"Selene. It would be a disservice to decline the generosity of a big sister Sierra, especially after she personally chosen to extend it."
Selene remained hesitant, she had never received such a big gift before. Ever. Especially from someone she had met just hours ago.
