Knowing the internal struggle she was going through, Moon spoke gently, reassuring her.

"She hasn’t made this offer lightly. She risked her life in earning that pendant, and she has decided that you’re the right person to carry it forward. Refusing now doesn’t preserve modesty. It insults the intent behind the gift."

"Accept it. Thank her. And use it well."

Selene’s fingers tightened slightly around the pendant.

She looked down at it. Then at Sierra. Then at Moon.

Her lips pressed together.

"I... I don’t know what to say. I’m deeply grateful. Thank you."

Sierra smiled gently.

"You don’t need to say much. Just take it, and grow strong enough to make me feel like I chose correctly."

Selene nodded her head slightly.

"I promise I’ll make good use of it. And I’ll make sure it never falls into unworthy hands."

Sierra reached out and gently touched Selene’s cheek.

"Good."

Selene lifted the pendant and put it on with hands that were still slightly trembling. The blue stone settled against her chest, and its aura exploded out once, before settling back.

"Nice... The item has chosen you as its host. You truly are special."

Selene looked up in surprise. "This... is a bound item?"

"Of course! Haha. And considering the difference in strength between you and what’s usually recommended to wield the pendant, wielding an item like this would be difficult. But the pendant has decided that you are worthy of it—just as I did."

The four of them stood silent for a long moment.

Then Sierra clapped her hands lightly and smiled.

"Alright. Go home. Rest. All three of you have work to do. Yara, I’ll expect to see you once every two days. Moon, you know how to reach me when you have questions. Selene, take care of that pendant. It might surprise you with what it can do once you attune to it properly."

The three of them nodded.

Moon inclined his head in a final respectful thanks.

They turned and walked toward the orbital together.

Inside the orbital, Yara turned toward Moon.

Her hands were still clasped around the white bow across her lap. She hadn’t let go of it since Sierra had strapped it onto her.

"Thank you. For giving me this opportunity. I never would have imagined getting such an amazing teacher."

She knew her talent alone wasn’t what had impressed Sierra. She had learned during lunch, through a passing comment Sierra had made, that the Ascender was also indebted to Moon.

Saving Sierra’s life during the tournament had earned Moon a favor of significant weight, and Sierra had likely chosen to spend part of that favor on Yara’s discipleship.

Moon shook his head with a soft smile.

"Your talent and skill were the reason you were chosen. Don’t overthink it."

Yara’s cheeks colored slightly. Moon had read her thoughts exactly.

"With Sierra as your teacher, your life is going to change completely. Once your disciple status is publicly announced, you’ll no longer be treated as a quote on quote, slave. Whatever paperwork the Association filed when you first arrived on Earth, whatever social status was assigned to you by that classification, all of it becomes irrelevant. You’ll be a recognized citizen with the personal backing of an Ascender. Very few people in the kingdom will dare speak down to you, and the ones who do will regret it quickly."

Yara’s eyes brightened. The shadow that was forced upon her since arriving on Earth was finally being lifted.

Selene, who had been listening from the seat beside Yara, reached over and squeezed her hand.

"He’s right. It’s going to be so different. You’re going to have your own name. Your own status. Your own life. And you deserve every bit of it."

Yara’s eyes filled with tears for the second time that day.

She looked between the two of them, then down at the bow in her lap, then back up.

"I don’t know how to thank both of you."

Moon smiled.

Staring at his smile, Yara couldn’t help but recall a memory, "The Village Chief was right... you really do remind us of the benefactor."

Moon remained silent. The World’s Flaw...Lunaris benefactor.

’Perhaps... he was also able to achieve what Alaric did in the river of paths... but on a greater level, granting him the title of World’s Flaw.’

Moon’s titled remained inactive, partially activating sometimes. Moon stopped thinking about the mysterious man.

The orbital continued its journey through the darkening sky.

Arriving back at the estate, the three of them stepped off the orbital and made their way inside.

Tom was already seated at the long table in the main dining hall, halfway through his dinner. He looked up as they entered, and his grin widened.

"Well, look who’s back. Come, come. Sit down before the food goes cold. My chefs make the best dishes in the kingdom and I refuse to eat it alone like some tragic widower. Selene, Yara, grab plates. Moon, sit next to me. I want to hear how your training went."

He gestured expansively toward the empty chairs.

Selene laughed softly and slid into a seat beside Yara. Moon took the chair next to Tom, and the four of them settled into the meal.

◇◇◇◇

Twenty minutes later, Tom couldn’t help but laugh.

"Not bad. Not bad at all."

He shook his head, a big grin spreading across his face as he processed everything Moon had just recounted.

"She’s really taken a liking to your group. I can’t blame her. But to hand out that many gifts in a single afternoon..."

Moon nodded, his mouth curving into a small smile.

"Exactly, old man. As a businessman, you need to step it up."

Tom laughed

"You little brat. The treasures your body absorbed in the past week are worth more than that bow a few times over. Do you have any idea what the moon lotus essence alone cost in favors?"

Moon smirked.

"That was recovery. This is competition. Different categories."

Tom shook his head, still chuckling.

"Cheeky brat."

He took a slow sip from his cup.

"But you’re right. I can’t let her out-give me. That would be embarrassing given my generosity. I’ll figure something out. Give me a few days."

Moon nodded, his expression becoming more serious.

"I appreciate it. But I also wanted to mention. I feel like my body is healing faster than anticipated. Stacey’s projections had me sitting here for another week at minimum. I’ll likely head back to my own house in the next day or two, then move on to the Second Sanctuary shortly after."

He paused.

"I’ve overstayed my visit. Thank you for everything."

Tom waved a hand dismissively.

"Overstayed. Please. Consider this place your home. You can come and go whenever you want. Everyone here knows you by name. A few of them have started asking me when you’re going to move in properly. My personal chef has been developing new dishes specifically calibrated to your palate."

He waved his hand again, more casually.

"Heck, everyone in the kingdom knows you now. You’re more famous than I am. If I turned you out, my public image would collapse within a week."

Moon shook his head.

"That’s an exaggeration."
