Edwin reached the spot in the square where the three guys were flaunting to other awakeners.

His jaw was tight with barely contained frustration, his footsteps heavy and deliberate, and he spoke with a ruthless voice that cut through the chatter like a blade.

"The plan for tomorrow has been finalized," Edwin announced, his voice carrying authority and command. "We’ll move out at 10 a.m, approach the Wendigo’s territory from the east, and—"

"Relax, old man," Daan interrupted, waving his hand dismissively as if shooing away a fly. "We’ve got this covered. No need for complicated plans when we’re this strong."

Edwin’s eye twitched, a vein pulsing at his temple, but he continued with forced calm. "The Wendigo is known to use hit-and-run tactics. We need to—"

"We’ll just trap it and kill it," Alex cut in with a grin, his arms crossed confidently. "Like we said before. Simple as that."

"Are you even listening to me?" Edwin’s voice grew sharper, his patience clearly wearing thin as his hands clenched at his sides.

"Look, we appreciate the concern," Levi added, stretching lazily as if bored by the conversation. "But we’ve handled worse than this. Just let us do our thing and stay out of our way."

Edwin’s face reddened, veins beginning to appear across his forehead as he struggled to contain his fury, his aura flickering with barely suppressed rage.

Several awakeners noticed that and backed away, knowing Edwin’s anger was not easily dealt with, having seen his outbursts before when things went wrong.

"You think this is a game?" Edwin growled, his voice low and dangerous, trembling with emotion. "I’ve lost men to that creature. Experienced men. And you three—"

"We’re not your men," Daan shot back, his tone dismissive and condescending. "There’s a difference between us and your failed soldiers."

The crowd went silent, everyone watching the confrontation unfold with wide eyes and bated breath.

Edwin’s fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles white as bone, and for a moment, it seemed like he might actually attack them, his aura flaring dangerously.

But in the end, he simply threw the piece of paper toward the three boys and turned back, his eyes blazing with aura, his entire body trembling with barely contained rage.

"Read the plan and follow it," he said, his voice cold, "Or the Wendigo won’t be the only thing you’ll have to fight tomorrow."

Just like that, he and the rest of the group left, his heavy footsteps echoing across the plaza as he walked away.

Mia simply sighed as she shook her head, casting a disappointed glance at the three prodigies before heading toward the exit gate.

The crowd slowly dispersed, whispers spreading through the base about what they had just witnessed.

Alicar watched it all unfold from the edge of the crowd, a faint smile crossing his face.

Then he took the exit gate to return to the real world.

Ding!

[You are about to leave the First Layer.]

The first thing Alicar did upon returning from the Ironhold Base was head straight to the Trading Centre to sell the items he had accumulated in his Spatial Ring.

The many corpses and materials were taking up valuable space that he needed to free up.

After all, his Spatial Ring though much larger wasn’t infinite.

"You still work to this hour?" Alicar asked as he noticed Brian was the one who was processing his items once again in the inspection room, the hour clearly late, "I mean..."

"I quite like this job," Brian smiled, his eyes gleaming with genuine satisfaction as he examined the various corpses. "Also I’m aiming to be promoted again to the Second Layer floors, so I need to put in the hours and prove my worth."

"Damn, good luck," Alicar replied with a nod of respect, genuinely impressed by Brian’s dedication.

Overall, Alicar was offered $678,000 for his haul, an incredible amount mainly thanks to the Shadow Wraith’s corpse which was worth a fortune due to its rarity and the valuable materials it contained for crafting powerful equipment.

’I’m rich!’ Alicar thought with a wide smile, his mind already racing with possibilities as he stared at his new balance. ’I should start looking for another apartment it seems, somewhere better than my current cramped space with the moldy walls.’

He’d do that after dealing with the Wendigo though.

He wanted to see what kind of Core it would give him, as well as claim the substantial bounty that came with defeating such a dangerous and elusive monster.

After saying goodbye to Brian and thanking him for his help, Alicar made his way back to his apartment through the quiet streets of the megacity, his footsteps echoing in the night air as he passed through the dimly lit neighborhoods.

On the way, he wondered what the "Upper Stage" was all about, that mysterious term that had appeared in the challenge panel.

He even searched on the Awakener Association’s forum for key words like "Upper Stage" or "Challenge" but literally nothing appeared, as if the information had been scrubbed clean from the public records.

So instead, he searched for the word "Wendigo" and indeed, there was an extremely popular post with hundreds of replies spanning multiple pages.

---

[What’s the point on all these bounties on monsters like the Wendigo or the Goblin Shaman if nobody manages to get them?]

- The point is that at some point, people will be motivated enough to do it. That’s how bounties work.

- I wonder why someone at level 25 doesn’t simply do it themselves, it’s easy money!

- The Wendigo is an epic-rank monster, meaning that it can actually stand its ground against awakeners of this level. It’s not as simple as just being higher level. Experience and strategy matter just as much.

The post continued with people arguing back and forth, some defending the bounty system while others criticized its effectiveness and questioned the Association’s motives.

But this indeed left Alicar wondering what could Edwin’s plan be to defeat the Wendigo once and for all.

And more importantly, he was excited to see what would happen tomorrow when the expedition finally set out and the true battle began.

’I wonder what Iris is doing, wish I could see her,’ Alicar thought as he lay down on his bed, staring at the ceiling and letting his mind wander.

Alicar’s eyes closed, and as midnight hit, the last thing he saw was a familiar notification.

[+3 Evolution Points.]

A faint smile appeared on his face as he drifted off to sleep, his body finally able to rest after the long day of fighting.
