He looked at Clara’s corpse once more before mustering his thoughts and looking deeper into the tunnel.

After killing Clara, Ethan slowly moved towards Christine.

His footsteps echoed faintly through the narrow tunnel as his jade-green eyes remained fixed upon the unconscious woman lying against the rocky ground.

Although he didn’t know who she was, the fact that the dead awakener had been protecting her was enough to make Ethan suspect she was another member of the Radiant Stars.

Looking at her condition, Ethan couldn’t help but wonder, ’Do I really need to kill her?’

The thought remained in his mind for several moments, refusing to disappear.

Although he had already taken a life, Ethan’s conscience hadn’t been built yesterday.

Nearly two decades of living as a human had taught him to respect others’ lives, whether he knew them personally or not.

The act of killing Clara had already left a giant crack within the surface of his humanity, even if it hadn’t completely shattered everything that remained beneath it.

The unconscious woman before him, at least at first glance, looked completely harmless.

She possessed neither the muscles of a warrior nor any visible weapon. There wasn’t even a feature about her body that suggested she could pose any immediate threat to him.

Her physique appeared so soft and delicate that Ethan found it difficult to imagine her fighting against anyone, much less surviving inside a dangerous monster nest.

From Ethan’s perspective, she was undeniably a beautiful woman. Her features were delicate, her complexion smooth, and even while unconscious, there was an unusual sense of tranquility covering her face.

She possessed the kind of appearance that might have caused an ordinary man to hesitate for an entirely different reason upon finding such a woman lying helplessly before him.

Ethan, however, felt nothing of the sort.

His expression remained indifferent as he stared down at her. He had neither the time nor the intention to admire someone else’s appearance while his own subordinates were being slaughtered somewhere deeper inside the colony.

The woman was at his mercy; whether he chose to kill her or leave her alive would determine whether another human life disappeared beneath his hands.

Ethan remained silent for several breaths before eventually releasing a long sigh.

At last, he shook his head and raised his right leg. He aimed his foot directly towards her chest before bringing it down with all the necessary force.

THUD!

His foot crushed directly into her chest as the impact instantly destroyed her heart beneath her ribs.

The unconscious woman’s body jerked once before becoming completely motionless, leaving Ethan standing over her corpse without saying anything.

For several moments, he simply stared at her. Then he lowered his leg, turned around, and began walking deeper into the tunnel.

His eyes were slightly narrowed, while his jaw remained tightly clenched.

Although his expression appeared just as emotionless as before, there was a faint heaviness buried within his chest that refused to disappear.

He had only taken a few steps when his footsteps gradually slowed.

"I’m sorry." The words escaped his mouth in a barely audible voice.

Ethan didn’t turn around, and instead, he simply kept walking until his jade-green figure eventually disappeared into the looming darkness of the underground colony.

If he wanted to, Ethan could have absorbed the dead humans using his SSS-rank skill—Flesh Assimilation.

Considering that both Clara and Christine belonged to the ranks of genuine D-rank awakeners, there was a possibility that consuming their bodies could provide him with a significant amount of biological matter and potentially accelerate his evolution progress.

Yet several factors discouraged him from making such a decision. The first problem was that he still didn’t properly understand his own body.

Since awakening the Overlord System, Ethan had been thrown from one crisis into another.

Every time he believed he finally had an opportunity to properly examine his skills, another problem would immediately appear and force him to move again.

Even now, he barely understood what would happen when his evolution progress reached its limit.

’What if I suddenly enter an evolution state after assimilating them?’

The thought alone made Ethan’s expression grow heavier. He didn’t know whether evolution would leave him helpless, how long it would last, or whether his body would become vulnerable during the process.

If he suddenly entered such a state while his subordinates were under attack, then all of his strength would become meaningless.

There was also another concern—he had barely had enough time to research the relationship between his racial traits, his class, his monster rank, and the strange power system he had inherited from the Overlord System.

Although he had learned several things through experience, there were still countless mysteries surrounding his own existence.

Sometimes, Ethan even wondered why everything had happened so quickly.

Why had he awakened the system?

Why had he become the first intelligent zombie?

Why had he been given an SSS-rank class?

And why had every opportunity he received been immediately followed by another crisis?

But such thoughts never remained for long, since there was always something more important.

Ethan’s eyes sharpened as he pushed those unnecessary thoughts aside. ’Regardless, I need to save Eris.’

His footsteps became faster than before. ’As long as she’s alive, the Blood Ant army can be recreated.’

Even if hundreds of ants died, Eris remained the queen, and as long as she survived, the colony itself wasn’t truly lost.

Outside the nest, the forest had already transformed into a battlefield.

Loud explosions reverberated through the trees one after another.

Enormous cracks and craters covered the ground and tore apart the natural landscape, turning what had once been a quiet forest into a scene of destruction.

Several trees that had stood there for decades had already been split apart. Their trunks had been shattered by repeated collisions, while countless branches and leaves had been scattered throughout the surroundings.

It hadn’t been long since the zombie Ironfeather Eagle arrived. Still, the battle had already reached an extremely fierce stage.

The enormous eagle spread its wings before violently flapping them towards the envoy, sending a powerful gust of wind rushing forward and tearing through everything in its path.

The envoy immediately moved aside, dodging it in time.

Unlike before, his demeanor had become considerably more serious, and the relaxed figure that had previously stood with his hands behind his back was nowhere to be seen, because facing a genuine C-rank monster head-on was a completely different matter from slaughtering a group of F-rank monsters.

For an awakener of the same rank, facing a C-rank monster was often nothing short of a dead end.

Monsters were naturally stronger than awakeners when comparing individuals of the same rank, and this was a fact that had been accepted throughout human society for years.

Yet despite the danger, the envoy’s mind wasn’t occupied solely by fear.

Instead, there was a growing doubt—the Ironfeather Eagle looked almost completely fine.

Its movements were sharp, its attacks were powerful, and its enormous wings continued manipulating the surrounding air with terrifying precision.

The eagle had undoubtedly been infected by the zombie virus. More importantly, it still possessed its own will. This single fact alone pointed out that the infection was relatively recent.

The envoy’s thoughts raced as another gust of wind exploded before him.

He immediately shifted sideways, allowing the attack to tear past his body before it crashed into the ground behind him, creating another enormous crater.

The Ironfeather Eagle didn’t give him time to recover before its wings moved yet again.

This time, the surrounding air itself began twisting. The eagle was manipulating the wind in the region, creating chaotic currents that made predicting its movements increasingly difficult.

Another powerful gust gathered several meters away before shooting forward with increasing force.

At a distance of merely twenty meters, the eagle could already generate enough wind pressure to tear apart the ground.

The envoy’s expression became increasingly grim as he couldn’t counterattack.

Every time he attempted to approach, the eagle changed its position, using the surrounding currents to redirect itself while simultaneously launching another attack.

It was as though the entire battlefield had become its territory.

Gritting his teeth beneath the white veil covering his face, the envoy narrowly avoided another attack before his robes were violently pulled backward by the passing wind.

His teal bells rang rapidly beside his ears as, for the first time since arriving, the envoy felt genuinely pressured.

"Fine then..."
