The brain-like creature immediately noticed the change. The moment Equalizer Form activated, the overwhelming sense of superiority it had possessed disappeared, along with the feeling that it controlled everything within the cavern and the certainty that the puny human standing before it could do nothing against its power.

What replaced it was something the creature had rarely experienced. Fear.

Its enormous consciousness trembled as it stared at Kael, and for the first time the creature felt small, not merely weaker than its opponent but small, as though its entire existence had suddenly been reduced to something insignificant.

"What is going on?" Its voice trembled. "How can a puny human possess such power? It’s impossible."

Kael didn’t answer, he simply stood there. His hair had turned golden, his eyes glowing the same shade with an indescribable calmness that made it impossible to determine what he was thinking, his skin flawless without the slightest imperfection, and the terrifying aura that had surrounded him only moments ago had completely vanished.

That was what frightened the creature the most, that there was no overwhelming pressure, no violent energy, no destructive force spreading throughout the cavern. Kael simply stood there, and yet everything around him seemed to have lost its meaning.

"What have you done?" The creature’s voice echoed through the cavern.

Kael finally raised his eyes, his golden gaze settling on the brain-like creature, and then he spoke.

"Inequality is the disease of the soul."

He slowly raised one hand. "All heights must be brought to the dust." His golden eyes grew colder. "All depths must be raised to the light. The scales demand balance. Only true balance shall allow true unity to exist."

Kael’s expression remained indifferent. "Now accept your punishment for breaking such a delicate balance."

The instant the final word left his mouth, nothing happened, no explosion, no shockwave, no violent fluctuation of energy. The creature simply began to dissolve, its body turning golden as its broke apart into countless particles of light, each fragment drifting toward Kael before the creature could even scream, its entire existence reduced to light and drawn into his body.

The cavern became silent. Kael lowered his hand as his eyes shifted toward the notification timer, where five seconds remained.

"Five seconds." He didn’t waste them.

He turned immediately toward the unconscious Hunters. With the creature gone, the tubes attached to their heads had stopped functioning and the horrible process of draining their life force had finally ended, but stopping the extraction didn’t mean they were safe.

His expression turned serious. Their life force was frighteningly weak, and some of the weaker Hunters had already been completely drained, their bodies lying motionless inside the broken cocoons, faces pale and lifeless, already crossed over into the boundary between unconsciousness and death.

Kael raised both hands, and golden light began radiating from his body in a brilliant halo that expanded outward until it washed over every Hunter caught within its range, entering their bodies and coaxing their weakened life force back into recovery.

Hunters who had been barely clinging to life suddenly took deep breaths, color returning to their pale faces, and even those whose life force had been reduced to almost nothing began to stir as the golden energy breathed life back into them. The cavern slowly filled with the sound of breathing.

Kael watched silently, the exploration team saved, but the moment he realized that, exhaustion washed over him, his body heavy and his consciousness sluggish just as the timer reached its end.

[Equalizer Form: Deactivated.]

The golden glow disappeared and his legs immediately gave out, dropping him to the ground, his consciousness fading before he could even feel the impact.

At almost the same time the unconscious Hunters began stirring, one person moving and then another, until slowly the members of the exploration teams were waking from their unconscious state, confusion spreading through the cavern.

"What happened?"

"Where are we?"

"Why can’t I remember anything?"

Some struggled to sit up while others looked around in panic, and as their memories began returning, the illusion created by the brain-like creature started breaking apart within their minds, fear spreading through the group as fragments of what had happened came back to them. But none of them noticed Kael, already completely unconscious, his consciousness descended into darkness.

Time passed, though Kael couldn’t tell how long he had remained there, with no sense of direction, no sound, no sensation, nothing existing within the endless darkness he simply drifted through.

Seconds, minutes, hours, days, he had no way of knowing.

Then, after what felt like an eternity, something changed. A faint light appeared within the darkness, barely visible at first, then growing, bleeding slowly into the void until the darkness itself began to retreat.

His consciousness stirred, his fingers moving slightly, and then his eyes opened.

Bright light struck his vision immediately, and he instinctively raised a hand to shield his eyes.

"Ah..."

His vision stayed blurry for several seconds before slowly adjusting, revealing white walls, a white ceiling, clean sheets, and the faint scent of disinfectant.

Kael blinked. A hospital room.

He tried to move, his body responding though still heavy, and just as he was about to sit up he felt something pressing against his leg.

He looked down to find someone sitting beside his bed, long hair resting across his lap, and it didn’t take him long to recognize her.

"Lyra."

His voice was quiet, and the sound seemed to wake her. She stirred, her eyes slowly opening in confusion before her gaze landed on Kael, and she froze, her eyes widening.

Neither of them spoke, then Lyra suddenly straightened.

"You’re awake!" She leaned closer. "How are you feeling? Are you in pain anywhere?"

Kael opened his mouth. "I’m..."

"I’ll go call the doctor!"

She stood and rushed toward the door before he could finish, the words he’d been about to say still hanging in the air behind her.

The door slammed shut.

Kael stared at it for several seconds, then sighed.

"And there she goes."
