Kael immediately stabilized himself with the Spectre-X’s thrusters, adjusting his body in mid-air until he finally came to a stop. Behind the narrow blue visor of his helmet, his eyes narrowed as he looked back toward Ghorrath.

"Well, that actually hurts."

The damage wasn’t serious. The attack had only managed to chip away at less than one percent of his HP, but that wasn’t the point.

He had taken damage this early into the battle.

And his opponent was anything but normal.

Kael had no idea how many abilities were buried within that grotesque body or what Ghorrath could unleash next.

That made the situation troublesome.

Kael’s gaze returned to the towering corpse golem.

Then he noticed something.

His eyes narrowed.

While Ghorrath had been casting its previous attack, its posture had shifted slightly, exposing a section of its lower body that had previously been hidden beneath the countless layers of fused corpses.

And buried deep within its pelvic structure was something Kael hadn’t noticed before.

A core.

It was a pulsing black mass covered in thick veins, buried beneath several layers of reinforced bone and corpse matter. The dark mass pulsed rhythmically, almost like a heart, with every pulse sending a faint wave of necrotic energy through Ghorrath’s enormous body.

Kael stared at it.

Then he slowly raised a hand and facepalmed.

"Of course."

His voice carried a hint of disbelief.

"He’s a construct."

How had he overlooked something so obvious?

Of course Ghorrath had a core.

That also explained the objective.

Unlike Silen, whose terrifying vitality and enormous reserves of life force made him an opponent that had to be worn down through sheer endurance, Ghorrath’s existence was dependent on that core.

Destroy the core, and the entire construct would collapse.

Technically, that made Ghorrath an easier opponent to defeat than Silen.

The problem was reaching the core.

It was buried beneath layers of reinforced corpse matter, protected by a twenty-foot monstrosity that could apparently use dozens of different abilities.

Still, Kael believed he could do it.

There was no reason to waste any more time.

Kael raised his hand.

"Void Echoes."

Mana drained from his body.

The space around him flickered, and in moments, six Void Echoes stood around him.

Seven Kaels now faced Ghorrath.

The clones didn’t need another command.

Their eyes turned toward the towering corpse golem.

Then all seven charged.

The battlefield erupted into motion.

Seven identical figures tore across the sea of bones, rapidly closing the distance from different directions. Ghorrath immediately recognized the sudden increase in opponents.

Its enormous body shifted.

The ground beneath it trembled.

Then countless spikes of earth erupted from the battlefield.

The spikes weren’t ordinary.

Each one had been shaped into a sharpened pillar and infused with a heavy gravitational force, causing the surrounding air to distort beneath their weight.

Three Void Echoes failed to escape the attack.

THOOM!

The spikes impaled them.

Their bodies instantly dissolved into black mist.

Kael felt the return.

Fragments of their memories flowed into his consciousness, carrying the short experiences they had accumulated since being created.

Kael ignored the useless memories.

There was no time and no need to sift through them. His attention instead remained fixed on Ghorrath.

The remaining clones continued their assault.

The fourth and fifth Void Echoes attacked the golem’s upper body, forcing Ghorrath to divide its attention between them. One struck its arm while the other moved toward its shoulder, forcing the enormous creature to shift its focus toward the two approaching targets.

That was all Kael needed.

An opening appeared.

Kael surged forward.

His body lowered as he accelerated across the ground, sliding over the bone-strewn battlefield at breakneck speed.

Ghorrath noticed him.

Its massive body shifted as the creature’s legs moved. Kael’s eyes narrowed as the golem raised one enormous foot.

Then it came down.

The massive limb descended toward Kael with enough force to crush him beneath its weight.

Kael continued forward.

At the very last moment, when the foot was already descending toward him, he activated Shadow Between Steps.

His body vanished.

The massive foot slammed down.

But there was nothing beneath it.

Kael reappeared directly within the narrow gap beneath Ghorrath’s crushing foot.

He had used Shadow Between Steps one final time.

Now there was no escape route left.

Kael didn’t need one.

He condensed an enormous amount of earth energy into his right foot.

The energy compressed.

And compressed.

Until every ounce of force he could produce had been concentrated into a single point beneath his sole.

Kael kicked off the ground.

BOOM!

Cracks spread across the floor beneath him as his body launched upward.

He used the remaining momentum from his leap to twist his body in mid-air.

His leg shot forward.

His target was directly ahead.

Ghorrath’s crotch.

More specifically, the thick armor plating protecting the core.

Kael’s foot smashed into it.

CRACK!

The reinforced plating shattered.

Fragments of condensed corpse matter exploded outward as the armor protecting the core broke apart under the tremendous pressure of his kick.

Kael didn’t celebrate.

The defense was broken.

But the core itself remained intact.

He had only created an opening.

That was enough.

Kael immediately activated the thrusters on his armor.

The sudden burst of propulsion kept his body suspended as gravity attempted to drag him back toward the ground.

He thrust his hand forward.

His fingers plunged directly into the exposed core.

The moment they entered the pulsing mass, Kael clenched his hand around it.

Earth energy surged toward his fingers.

His grip tightened until every ounce of strength was concentrated in his hand.

At the same time, Aura of Destruction flooded into the core.

Dark energy spread through its structure, attacking the very composition that allowed it to maintain its integrity.

The core resisted.

Its surface hardened around Kael’s fingers as enormous amounts of necrotic energy surged through Ghorrath’s body.

Kael didn’t let go.

He tightened his grip even further.

The combination of his overwhelming physical strength and the constant erosion caused by Aura of Destruction began pushing the core beyond its structural limits.

Cracks appeared.

Tiny at first.

Then more.

The internal structure began to destabilize.

Then Fracture Resonance triggered as the core suddenly vibrated.

A strange resonance spread through its interior as the cracks rapidly expanded.

The internal structure of Ghorrath’s core began failing.

Not in one place.

Everywhere.

The damage cascaded through the entire core in a chain reaction, each fracture creating another point of failure until the entire structure was on the verge of collapse.

Ghorrath’s enormous body suddenly stiffened.

Its countless limbs stopped moving.

The flames burning within its eyes flickered.

Then they went cold.

The core shattered.

For a brief moment, the enormous corpse golem remained standing.

Then the power holding it together disappeared.

The thousands of corpses fused into Ghorrath’s body began to decay.

Necrotic flesh shriveled.

Bones cracked.

Bodies that had been forcibly stitched together for countless years began falling apart in real time as thousands of bodies began tumbling from the collapsing mass, scattering across the battlefield like dry leaves caught in a winter storm.

The twenty-foot giant slowly came apart.

And just like that, the troublesome Ghorrath was finally brought down.
