"Has the sun risen from the north? When did Kyle become a loving husband?"
"Did Nyxia leaving suddenly bring him back to his senses?"
"Back to his senses, my foot! It is clearly because he is scared of commander Aldric Vayne."
"Should I also report to authorities?"
"Wife, no! Wait!"
While the surroundings were filled with murmurs, Commander Aldric Vayne answered. "No, your wife was rescued. Instead, she has provided very important information to us."
"Uhhh... What is it?" Kyle’s creeping feeling grew.
"First step aside. We also want to confirm the information too." Without explaining anything to Kyle, Commander Aldric Vayne pushed his way through their small room. Following behind him was Leon, who was comforting Nyxia.
Kyle didn’t care how intimately this young man was caring for his wife; the only thought inside his mind was to escape. He glanced at the empty door, and the urge to run grew.
At that moment, Kyle felt a pat on his shoulder. He turned and saw the young man looking at him with an ambrosial smile. "Please follow the commander."
"Okay." Kyle gritted his teeth, suppressing the urge to punch Leon’s annoying face. However, he didn’t take a step from his spot. He knew he was screwed and doing anything would force down the commander’s divine might.
Leon smirked, watching Kyle’s face contorting to pain, anger, and confusion. ’He is overwhelmed.’
Leon didn’t have to do anything now as Kyle’s brain was short-circuiting, trying to think of a way out of this perilous situation.
"Catch him right now!" At that moment, Commander Aldric Vayne shouted.
Without a shred of hesitation, Leon let go of Nyxia and twisted Kyle’s right arm to the back. Then he pushed his right on the stone wall, smashing his body.
Thud!
"Argghhh!" Kyle screamed in pain before trashing. "Let me go!"
"You are not going anywhere." Commander Aldric Vayne came back with a grim face. "You are arrested for robbery."
"Commander, it wasn’t me! It is that bitch!" Kyle knew his path of escape was cut off completely. So, he wanted to take down Nyxia with him, who snitched on him. "She has been stealing from various shops in the market. I warned her many times to stop stealing but she wouldn’t listen."
"Hmph!" Commander Aldric Vayne sneered. "We have already done our investigation. It was you who is stealing because of the gambling debt you have compiled. Fortunately, we were able to encounter your wife and get to unearth your secret."
When Leon brought Nyxia to Commander Aldric Vayne, he had told him the story of his investigation leading him to a gambling wife who always looked heartbroken. So, with his psychological manipulation, he was able to force her to tell her secret, resulting in him actually catching the market thief.
"Leon, take him to the carriage and miss." Commander Aldric Vayne stood before Nyxia and saluted by having his hand on his chest. "Thank you for your support. You will be rewarded."
Afterward, Commander Aldric Vayne left, following Leon, who was pushing Kyle outside. They left Nyxia behind as to where she could go aside from her home, where she was already standing.
Of course, Nyxia would leave in a couple of hours after packing her bag for her new home.
Asterhold City Guard Facility, located at the heart of the district.
It was a large three-story building made of stone, with a magnificent training ground. All the Asterhold city guards and a garrison of military personnel were stationed here. It also held a four-floor-deep underground prison, making it the most important part of the district. Any deeper level of criminality could cause mayhem in the district.
This visit was also Leon’s first time coming here. Previously, he was in a barrack assigned to Commander Aldric Vayne and his troop.
Leon now has Kyle’s hand tied behind his back and is led by Commander Aldric Vayne.
"I didn’t think you would be able to complete your orientation task. Forever be stuck as a recruit." Commander Aldric Vayne spoke without looking back.
"Commander, I was just lucky." Leon spoke shyly as he truly felt he was really fortunate. If he had given more time, he would be one hundred percent sure he could complete it, but in just three days? Even veterans could struggle.
"Luck is important, but to utilize that luck, you also need skill." Aldric Vayne’s laughter came through. "What I didn’t expect, besides investigation skills, is that you also have skill with women!"
Leon smiled helplessly. As he expected, he couldn’t hide anything from this veteran who has probably seen many things of the world.
At that moment, they halted as before them stood a giant steel gate, as thick as a castle wall. On both sides stood two men in ashen armor who were two feet taller than Leon. Their torn black cape was fluttering in the silent wind. They each held a broadsword, inserting it into the ground. They were as calm as statues, but the invisible aura they were emitting made the air tremble.
Leon’s eyes sting as soon as he laid his gaze on them. He quickly lowered his head as unknown primal fear grew in his heart. ’Who the hell are those guys?’
"Sir, we are here to hand in a criminal." Commander Aldric Vayne bowed respectfully as he presented the orientation task to them. In his voice was deep reverence as if he met the emperor himself.
Leon also followed along, as he didn’t want to offend these guys. Meanwhile, Kyle quivered in fear.
The one to their right took the orientation task nonchalantly and took a quick glance.
A deep, rough voice came through yet there was a sense of calm and peace in it. "Bring the criminal forth."
Without waiting for the commander’s signal, Leon presented Kyle in front of the knight.
The knight looked down at Kyle, who was clasping his hands and asking for forgiveness. "Forgive me, my lord. I will never gamble, I will never beat my wife, I will never steal, and I will never commit a crime. Please, just let me go this time!"
