The knight acted like he didn’t pay any heed to Kyle begging. Instead, he spoke like he was giving a verdict. "Kyle, a market thief, has caused much harm to shop owners of the Asterhold District, harming the empire’s wealth and harmony. From here on, you are imprisoned at the second level for 50 years."
Then he snapped his fingers, making a metalic sound.
Ting!
Along with it, Kyle vanished from the spot, now at the second level of the prison.
’He just made him disappear with a snap of his finger!’ Inwardly Leon was amazed by watching the scene before him. Instead of fearing, a sense of anticipation grew. ’When will I grow strong enough to make people disappear too?’
"You can leave now." Finishing the job, the knight dismissed them.
Commander Aldric Vayne and Leon left after bowing toward them. As they went further, that calm yet oppressive feeling decreased.
When the feeling completely disappeared, Leon at last asked Commander Aldric Vayne. "Commander, who are they? I can’t have a sense in my heart on where to put them. No position suits them in my heart."
"Of course you will feel like that. Because they are basically gods walking on earth. Their power sundered the hearts of many of the finest warriors of the empire, individuals more treasured than the emperor himself. They are Shattered Knights." Commander Aldric Vayne blurted out in a devoted tone.
On the other hand, Leon was beyond shocked. "They are Shattered Knights!?"
Leon was already wary of the Shattered Knights the moment he read about them. Now it seems he has to raise their ranking, putting them just behind Dragons and Winged Spirits. Because the commander’s evaluation completely shattered his understanding.
"But why are they guarding a prison?" This was another part Leon became confused about. Having such powerful individuals, he imagined the emperor putting them on dangerous tasks but not to watch over a prison in a district.
"I don’t know. After the Sundered War ended, the world experienced a rare moment of peace. Maybe with nothing to do, the emperor put them in important parts of his empire. You know, other district prisons also have two Shattered Knights guarding them. There are many more that we do not know of. In short, you can understand the capital is protected all the time." Commander Aldric Vayne spoke for a long time before finally arriving at his small office in the Asterhold City Guard Facility.
Listening to the commander, Leon pondered silently. ’Hmm...then I should try my best to not leave the capital as much as possible. Until I am strong enough like the Shattered Knights, I will never leave this place.’
"Leon Ashborne!"
Suddenly, Leon halted his train of thought after hearing the commander call him out.
Sitting behind the desk, Commander Aldric Vayne handed him a silver badge with a six-pointed star symbol. "Congratulations on becoming a city guard. From today onwards, you will be a part of my garrison."
"Thank you, Commander." Leon bowed, simultaneously taking the badge.
After he put it in front of the commander, several notifications flashed before his eyes.

"Leon Ashborne, now go to our barracks and wait there. I will assign a partner for you after I am back after a meeting." Commander Aldric Vayne dismissed Leon before delving deep into his thoughts.
"As you wish, commander." Leon saluted, resting his right hand on his chest. Then he left for the barracks in a jolly mood.
Meanwhile, in front of the prison gate.
Just as Leon and Commander Aldric Vayne left, the two Shattered Knights chattered among themselves.
"Did you feel it?"
"Yes. There is an unknown force inside that boy. A force filled with vitality."
"So strange. We have roamed the world and have yet to see something like this."
"Stop boasting. You just saw what your powers granted you. There are still many places that our eyes can’t reach."
"That’s true. Well, do you want to report the boy to the captain?"
"Of course. I am sure the captain will be ecstatic to find a seedling for a Shattered Knight."
"Oh, you have high hopes."
"Only by being a freak can you become a Shattered Knight."
"Hmm... You are not wrong."
Commander Aldric Vayne’s barracks.
"Brother, you finally became a city guard!" Pooland laughed loudly, grabbing Leon’s shoulder.
Leon shook his head helplessly. "Why are you saying it like that? Did you have no hope in me?"
After reaching the barracks, he saw many other recruits just like him. He guessed today might be the last of the orientation tasks. The people who were able to stand here absolutely completed their tasks.
And surprisingly, he met with his first-found brother in this world, Pooland.
"Hey, it isn’t like that. I am just happy to see you." Pooland said with a grievance. "Brother, now that you have become a city guard, you have to fulfill your promise of a party."
"Brother, don’t worry. I have not forgotten." In return, Leon patted Pooland’s shoulders and spoke proudly. "Now that I have become a city guard, I am about to marry two wives. So there will be a big party at my home!"
