Jackson did not rush this time, but waited patiently, searching for the perfect prey. After all, not only would he need to kill the Blue-Horned Deer, but he would also have to return to his hiding spot. If his condition were to worsen like last time, he might as well commit suicide directly if he did not have any backup plan in mind.
Cold wind howled through the forest, fluttering the tree leaves, while painful roars of monsters continued to echo in the background.
Jackson’s mind remained stone-cold, not growing impatient even a little. Finally, just as he was considering switching targets, he spotted the perfect prey — an incredibly old Blue-Horned Deer.
Under the shade of an ancient tree, a slightly tired-looking Blue-Horned Deer slowly grazed on the grass below, its movements incredibly slow as it savored the tender blades.
Jackson looked at the deer and frowned, feeling slightly surprised. He wondered how, with such slow movement, it had been able to survive in this forest.
However, the next moment, he moved out of his hiding spot and yelled,
"Hey! Come attack me, you stupid monster!"
The sudden appearance of Jackson surprised the Blue-Horned Deer. At first it was confused, but soon its eyes flashed with killing intent.
Because of its old age, it was having a hard time hunting anything, but now this stupid human had appeared out of nowhere. Feeling ecstatic, it quickly gave chase.
As expected, my calculations were correct...!
Jackson thought with his eyes flashing sharply. This Blue-Horned Deer was indeed slow, and Jackson had to make sure he was not too fast, or else the deer would be left far behind.
Leading the deer through the forest, Jackson suddenly stopped when he was right outside the cave entrance.
"Huff... huff..."
Completely tired from the chase, the Blue-Horned Deer panted like a dog, saliva dripping from its wide-open mouth.
Once Jackson was ready, he focused, and the monster’s status window floated in front of him.
[Name - Blue-Horned Deer]
[Age - 99]
[Talent - Blood Boiling]
[Realm - Mortal]
[Spiritual Force - 7.3]
[Mana - 7.9]
Jackson was immediately thrilled when he noticed there was already a sizable gap between the monster’s two primary stats. Bringing the golden brush over the window, he quickly erased the 7.9 mana and added ten in its place.
Immediately, a strange sense of extreme weakness followed by a piercing headache filled his mind.
This time, however, it was not as bad as the last time, as Jackson did not have a talent that was passively consuming his spiritual force.
Not paying attention to the bloodied corpse behind him, Jackson made his way deeper into the cave. Once in a safe spot, he sat down in a meditative position and waited for his spiritual force to recover.
Time continued to pass as he sat cross-legged and meditated. With the passing time, the headache eased, and in another five minutes, he had completely recovered.
Jackson focused inside his mind space, and just as he had expected, the Twin Dragon’s path had grown by one foot, reaching a staggering size of twenty feet.
Once he realized that his theory had been proven correct, a wide smile appeared on his face. Now he had another way to increase his spiritual force without relying on expensive pills.
After removing the dragon path once more, he made his way out of the cave to collect the dead Blue-Horned Deer’s remains. He quickly found them just outside, and after picking up both the horn and the beast core, he hid them away.
Now that he had returned to peak condition, it was time to continue hunting.
Before moving, he looked toward the sky. The sun had completely risen overhead and had started to make its way down. He took note of the time.
Hmm... I’ve got at least four to five hours of daylight left, enough time to hunt a couple more Blue-Horned Deer...
Time continued to pass. Jackson patiently hunted, making sure he avoided other predators. After finding a Blue-Horned Deer, he would lure them back to the cave before killing them by interfering with their mana.
Just like that, in the next four hours, he managed to hunt exactly four more Blue-Horned Deer, one every hour. Together with the two from before, he had hunted a total of six monsters.
A ludicrous amount for a single man. Even a fully armed team would only be able to hunt three or four monsters at most before calling it a day.
Yet Jackson had hunted six of them alone, simply by relying on his golden brush.
Jackson looked at the large pile of Blue-Horned Deer horns, and lying right beside it were the six monster cores.
"I can’t carry all these horns with me. They will attract too much attention. It seems I’ll need to make a couple of extra trips back to the city..."
With this thought in mind, he pocketed all six monster cores into his storage pouch. After picking a slightly smaller horn, he hid the rest of them in the ground.
He would return tomorrow and take them with him.
Just as he was about to turn back and start heading out, he suddenly felt an intense throbbing sensation in his mind, as if it were about to explode.
Damn... this again...
Jackson quickly sat down and started visualizing the Twin Dragon in his mind. After five minutes, the throbbing sensation vanished.
Getting up, Jackson let out a sigh.
After four hours of hunting, his spiritual force had also risen. Thinking up to this point, he summoned the status window to take a look.
[Name - Jackson Von Maximus]
[Age - 16]
[Talent -]
[Realm - Mortal]
[Spiritual Force - 2.1]
[Mana - 0.99]
His spiritual force had risen above two points, leaving his once-ordinary mana attribute in complete dust. This created a huge imbalance, and it was a surprise that Jackson had not burst apart like the Blue-Horned Deer.
I can’t rely on the same trick again to hunt monsters tomorrow...
He would need to increase his mana as well. Only then would he be able to continue using the same trick.
