Jackson looked at all of this and felt something flare inside him. It was only now that he realized why people chose to fight when things could be solved with reason.
Without thinking, he hurriedly moved inside and came back carrying a pouch. Inside the pouch were the mana stones that he had gotten from hunting.
Without wasting a single breath, he threw them directly in front of Mrs. Laker and her goons.
"Take this and scramble right back wherever you came from."
Jackson’s tone was colder than an ice glacier. If he wanted, he could have respectfully handed the pouch to her, but being respectful to such a human being would be crueler to his own family.
How could he treat someone with kindness who treated his family with such harshness?
Jackson’s heart felt as if it was being stabbed with a sharpened knife when he noticed little Aella peeking from behind the wooden wall, her small face filled with fear and confusion.
No little kid had to go through this.
Jackson couldn’t help but blame himself for this situation. If he had only been fast enough, talented enough to own their own home, both his family members would not have had to go through this first thing in the morning.
It was at this time that he swore to himself: before this month ended, he would buy a house for his family to live in, without worrying about things like rent and food.
Meanwhile, Jackson’s words were still reverberating in the mind of Mrs. Laker. She fixed her gold-rimmed glasses for a moment to make sure she was seeing things correctly, then she looked at her lackeys to confirm that she hadn’t imagined things. From their shocked reactions, she confirmed she wasn’t hearing things.
If that wasn’t enough, the pouch lying at her feet also confirmed that the situation was real.
When all these things connected together, Mrs. Laker felt truly angry.
If these lowly poor fellows had just complied and allowed her to humiliate them publicly, she might have just let them off by simply throwing them out, but now this wouldn’t do.
The next moment she ordered in an icy tone,
"A little money and you dare to act this arrogantly, not even respecting the person who gave you a roof over your head for all these years?"
"Men, drag him out and break his legs. Let’s see if he can be this arrogant then."
It was at this time Mother Rose, who had been frozen in shock, reacted. When she heard Mrs. Laker’s cold words, she almost fainted, but by sheer will she turned to Mrs. Laker and begged:
"Mrs. Laker, please calm your anger... Jackson is still young and can spout nonsense in a moment of anger..."
"Please don’t take his words to heart, he really didn’t mean it..."
Although Mother Rose knew what Mrs. Laker had said and done was going overboard, if something happened to Jackson because of his words—no, absolutely not. She couldn’t let that happen.
"Leave my big brother alone... you evil people!"
It was at this time little Aella was unable to continue watching. She ran out from her hiding spot and hugged Jackson’s legs tightly, trying to protect him from the evil people.
For a moment Jackson forgot about everyone surrounding him, his eyes staring at Aella’s big blue innocent eyes filled with determination to save her big brother from the evil people. He could tell she was doing her very best to stop the tears from flowing.
At some point, he turned his gaze away from Aella and looked at Mrs. Laker and her men with an ice-cold expression.
The entire neighborhood continued watching with myriad reactions, but not a single one dared to step forward to help Jackson and his family. According to some of them, the Von Maximus family had it coming.
It was at this time one of Mrs. Laker’s underlings, closest to Jackson, lunged toward him with ruthless intent in his eyes.
Jackson almost instantly increased his spirit power, turning the man into mush. He wasn’t a bloodthirsty killer, but it was instinctive reasoning to protect his sister. But it was at the last moment that he managed to restrain himself.
Before the man could even reach him, he extended his hand and grabbed his throat, lifting him into the air.
Suddenly the air in the surroundings changed. With Jackson as the center, a terrifying storm of spiritual force exploded out. Except for Aella and Rose, everyone else had their minds go blank as if hit by a high-voltage lightning current. Their bodies trembled, and the man close to Jackson fell to the ground with blood coming out of his mouth.
Mrs. Laker’s body was also twitching violently. However, she didn’t seem to care, because when she looked at Jackson, she seemed to have realized something.
Such strong spiritual force... how is this possible?
"Did you just awaken yesterday?"
Mrs. Laker wasn’t some no-name ignorant. She was quite familiar with the world of awakeners, and her son was also an awakener. Yet it was precisely because of this knowledge that she was shocked. She knew an awakener, just by using their spiritual power, could deal with ordinary people like them—but Jackson had just awakened yesterday. He didn’t have time to grow his spirit power to this extent.
Countless thoughts whirled through her mind. She simply stood there frozen in shock.
Jackson completely ignored her and turned to Aella. Petting her small head, he said:
"Little Aella doesn’t need to worry. Your big brother alone is enough to deal with this trash."
Little Aella didn’t understand what had just happened. She just saw the evil men fall like a bunch of headless flies, so she could only nod her little head and agree obediently.
Mother Rose was too frozen in shock to say anything. In her mind, the scene of the thug falling onto the ground replayed again and again.
Although she didn’t know what had happened, from Mrs. Laker’s reaction she could tell it had something to do with her son.
Meanwhile, the surrounding crowd watching suddenly exploded with discussion.
"Oh my heavens, am I looking at things?"
"What just happened... how did those strong men fall like fireflies?"
"What just happened?!"
No matter how loudly they discussed, there was no one to explain things to them.
Among this discussion, Mother Rose finally came to her senses. She turned to Jackson and asked worriedly,
"Are you okay...? Did you get hurt anywhere?"
Mother Rose knew Jackson had just awakened. Whatever he might have done should have put enormous strain on him, maybe even hurt him in the process.
She didn’t want her son to ruin his future just because of his rashness.
Jackson, feeling touched by her kindness even in this situation, could only simply shake his head.
"It’s nothing. I am fine."
Then the next moment, with a slightly serious face, he continued:
"Let’s pack up... we are leaving this place for good."
